About this listing
Stunning architect designed property on a 300 acre organic farm surrounded by panoramic views of this incredible landscape. Like staying with friends in their family home, Deelin Mor is out of the ordinary in every way.
Stunning architect designed property on a 300 acre organic farm surrounded by panoramic views of this incredible landscape. Design-led and bespoke, Deelin is out of the ordinary in every way. Outside the house is a modern copy of an Irish georgian Hunting Lodge on a grand scale, with huge sash windows which let the light and views flood in. Inside Deelin Mór is modern and simple - reminiscent of an art space - with underfloor heating, oak and limestone floors and white walls, allowing the furniture and the people to be the 'art' in the room. As such the home easily morphs from a family friendly place where children can run around and play, to a peaceful sanctuary for a couple (or two) to get away from the bustle of city life, to a great place for a family get-together or a celebration with friends. The kitchen table seats 10 comfortably with extra chairs if you meet new friends during your stay (a normal occurrence here as the people are lovely and friendly).
Deelin Mór has 5 bedrooms: 3 large (1 superking, 2 kingsize beds), 1 (cosy) double and 1 double/triple. The master bedroom has a four poster bed, mahogany wardrobe and chest of drawers, seat, mirror and sideboard. It connects to a large stone wet-room with sunken bath, rain shower and bidet. The main guest room has a beautiful view from the large sash window onto the flower garden across the front of the kitchen towards Slieve Carran. Across the hall is the family bathroom - with bath, shower head, bidet, loo and sink - and the cosy double. The Garden Room has stunning views across the burren, a large sofa, open fire, bedside tables, full length mirror and cupboard for clothes. There is also a third shower room and loo in the basement - practical rather than luxurious - which can be used if you have a larger party and a WC in the back hallway.
The kitchen is huge and fully equipped - cutlery and crockery for 18, large selection of kitchen implements plus kenwood, hand held mixer, juicer etc. The kitchen is divided into three areas. The top area is where you can prepare and cook, or hang out with a drink and watch someone else do the work. Central to the room is the large dining room table. At the far end are two large sofas and the fireplace - a great adult hang out area. With Bose speaker (and ipod) supplied, you will probably end up spending much of your time here. But if you do want peace and quiet, the library is a beautiful wood panelled room where you can admire the view from the comfy Conran sofa, watch a movie (we don't have a TV connection - this is about getting away from it all after all!) or read a book by the fire with a glass of wine. Downstairs is the utility room - and the pool table - a third space to hang out in particularly late in the evening when you can no longer see the views. Obviously on a nice day the garden offers a fourth space to gather, with it's large garden table, chairs and benches. Sitting outside you are surrounded by farmland and can enjoy the sound of the birds, cattle, sheep and feral goats.
Deelin Mór is an unusual place because it is what you make it. If you want peace, quiet & privacy then this is definitely the place. The house is about a mile from the road and sits surrounded by its own farmland. If you want to celebrate, then the privacy means you won't disturb anyone. We can help you make your holiday special by pointing you in the direction of whatever floats your boat from outdoor adventure (surfing, climbing, sailing, fishing, walking, kayaking etc) to nature, culture, restaurants, pubs etc.
Uniqueness. Hmmm. If the 300 acre organic estate, private location, access to local attractions and the Burren itself (a unique floral landscape, UNESCO Geopark & SAC) aren't sufficient, then the house will be. Rarely are houses built in such a bespoke manner. In scale alone it stands apart. It's decor is both modern and simplistic, yet plush and comfortable - as one of our guests said 'like staying with a friend rather than renting a holiday home'.
We really want you to enjoy your stay with us, and look forward to welcoming you to this amazing place.
You have permission to enjoy anything that isn't shut away. Please respect the contents of the house as they belong to our family and are there for your - and our - enjoyment.
Interaction with Guests
In most cases we ask guests to meet us at our cottage on the way to Deelin Mor. We then take you to the house and show you around, answering any questions you have. As a minimum we will phone you the following day to check that you are comfortable, have everything you need and that the house is functioning properly. If you have any questions or issues we encourage you to contact us asap. There is internet available at our house if you need to get online. If you want to see more of us you are welcome to contact us at any time.
I love the fact that Deelin Mór is in the middle of nothing, and everything. The house is 2 miles from the nearest village but less than an hour from the Cliffs of Moher, Shannon Airport, Galway City, Connemara, the Shannon River - in other words in the centre of everything the area has to offer. We sit in the middle of Burren hills with fantastic views, but only 10 minutes from the coast and access to local beaches - the best of all worlds. We have abundant local restaurants & pubs in neighbouring villages and towns plus small but well stocked shops in all directions in about 15 mins drive.
On our doorstep are: The Burren National Park, The Burren Perfumery, Poulnabrone Dolmen, Cahercommaun Ring Fort, Flaggy Shore, Carron Turlough, Aillwee Caves, Kilfenora Cathedral & Crosses, Dysert O'Dea Castle, the fishing villages of Ballyvaughan and Kinvara, Fanore and Tracht Beaches and lots and lots of stunning views. Slightly further afield are the Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands, Doolin, Connemara, the Shannon Estuary and so on. Practically the whole of Clare is accessible within an hour.
As a rural area there isn't any useful public transport from a tourist point of view. Once you get here you may not want to leave, but you will still need your own transport for the initial journey! If you like cycling both Kinvara and Ballyvaughan offer rentals which - if you're fit - are a great way to get around. There are also electric bicycles available, all of which can be delivered to your door or another location. There is ample safe parking (we are nearly a mile from the road) for cars and bikes.
Please relax and treat the house as if you were a guest in a good friend's home - i.e. don't do anything that would lose you the friendship!
STRICTLY no more than 10 guests unless agreed in advance. Any additional house guests will forfeit your full deposit without exception and will may lead to your removal without refund.
If you break or damage anything you must pay for it's replacement or repair

A fantastic house, in a stunning location. Very well equipped and immaculate. Warm welcome, we were only reluctant to leave! The kitchen is a fantastic room for gathering. Helen and Enda were very helpful before and during our trip. Would highly recommend.
Very welcoming, great communicator, beautiful home, stunning location. Overall a magical experience.
We had the vacation of our dreams at Deelin Mor . The six of us--a very grown up family--played together, hiked together, cooked together, sang and danced together and all in the midst of beautiful Ireland, specifically in The Burren. The house was magnificent: warm and comfortable. The area's rugged beauty was ours to explore. Helen and Enda suggested we take a morning to hike with a guide, Allen Griffith, who not only showed us the many sites in the area, but also took us fishing!
Make sure you go to the perfumery and chocolatier in the area, they both have excellent products and we love giving our friends the gifts we bought there.
From our home base at Deelin Mor, we visited the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, Kilfenora, Kinvarra, Connemara--where you could spend many days hiking. Next time we are going to sail out to the Aran islands
Enda and Helen were endlessly helpful and gracious. We feel so lucky to know them. Their patient explanations and excellent suggestions enhanced every aspect of our trip. They directed us towards the great pubs of the area, where we met more of the kindest people in the world. We enjoyed the pints and the music and we absolutely will come back to do more set dancing at Vaughn's!
Our stay at Deelin was absolutely magic. It's a stunning house in a beautiful setting, kitted out with bespoke fixtures and fittings and clever design. We all fell in love with the place from the moment we stepped into the impressive hallway and are already dreaming about a return visit. Helen is a wonderful host; she welcomed us warmly and was easily contactable if we had any questions. Top marks!!!
The house looks simply amazing - it far exceeded our expectations. We wanted a beautiful, spacious yet homely country retreat and we got exactly that and more. We were absolutely delighted - made for a perfect weekend for such a special occasion. We were welcomed freshly baked homemade bread and Helen was very helpful throughout our stay. We would recommend this place to anyone!
I'm not sure where to start for our stay at this wonderful lodge. The house itself was magnificent, the photos did not do it justice, and it had everything we needed, to include sharp knives and egg poaching pans. The location is in the picturesque Burren which made stepping outside breathtaking every time. Our Host Helen was so warm, friendly, and wonderful...she was so helpful with everything we needed and quickly became a friend to us all. Her ambassador "Ruby" was delightful to have around the house the day we decided to take it easy and stay in...such a cute dog with such a friendly nature. Overall, we had a fantastic experience. We were a bit worried that the lack of internet and mobile coverage would be a bit bothersome but I think it definitely added to the experience of the trip. We shall return in the future for sure! Thanks so much Helen.
Hi Christian, Thank you so much for this lovely review. It's great to know that the lack of internet wasn't a problem. We've toyed with the idea of getting it, but satellite broadband is difficult to get and pretty unreliable, and with the pressures of modern life we felt we were offering something very few others were - a complete escape.
Again, we were just so pleased to see you all enjoying the house so much, and I'm delighted it suited your needs so well. The house lights up with good people and celebrations and it was a pleasure to witness this first hand (and eat your DELICIOUS turkey - anyone who thinks turkey is a dry old bird needs to get in contact with your brother!).
Hope to meet you all again
This house has to be seen and experienced to be believed. We were expecting something special from the photos posted on AirBnB but the reality was even better - unbelievably spacious, luxurious, tasteful and comfortable. From the oversized, polished limestone tiles that line the walls and corridors to the bespoke oak panelling and shutters in every room, it is clear that a tonne of talent and love was put into the build of this house, not to mention an amazing eye for architecture and design.
Every bedroom was beautiful and stepping into our ensuite felt like entering a Moroccan spa - each guest made it their business to have a bath in the sunken bath at some stage during the weekend!
We arrived down for a weekend of cooking, drinking, long walks and relaxation and we couldn't have picked a better venue. The kitchen was a dream to cook in with plenty of space and every top end appliance and utensil you could want. The pool table in the basement was a bonus surprise!
The scenery which surrounds the house is the Burren at its best - wild, colourful and moon-like. Despite the isolation of the house it is a short drive from Ballyvaughan and so easily accessible.
Helen could not have been more pleasant to deal with from the first inquiry to the last goodbye on the doorstep - she made everything so easy and did everything she could to ensure our stay was perfect.
I could not recommend this house enough. A special house in a special spot, this really is the lap of luxury in the middle of one of Ireland's most secluded and magical spots. My only hesitation in posting a good review was that other people would then discover this best kept secret. We will DEFINITELY be back.

About the Host, Helen
I am English and have lived in the Burren for 10 years. I really love it here - the scenery is something else and the Burren offers 'Big Sky' of the type I've only otherwise seen in Africa. Despite the fact that our mountains are in truth hills, when you're on top of them you feel like you're on top of the world and the views down into the valleys and the sea are simply spectacular.
Before settling here and marrying a wonderful local man, I lived in London and worked in the City. I came here for a week to visit family and fell in love with the area as soon as I arrived - total calm and peace, but also 'mighty craic' (great fun). While the intermittent phone coverage and low-tech lifestyle might initially feel 20th century it only adds to the ability to truly take a break from 'normal' life, something that is harder and harder to do.
I have since re-trained (at Vidal Sassoon) and am now a mobile hairdresser. I love travelling (big trips include driving from London to Capetown & a year in New Zealand), film, cooking and eating good food & wine, reading, and walking up our mountains. I speak a bit of French and Italian (lots of mistakes but lots of willingness!) and am happy to welcome guests of any type from any part of the world.
Whether you come to stay in our cottage or up at the big house, we would welcome you as a friend who could spend as much or as little time with us as you wanted. We have lots of information about the local area and are happy to advise and help you access local activities where we can.
