About this listing
Torre Gentile is a hamlet about five kilometers south of one of Italy's most beautiful hill towns, Todi. The map places it incorrectly in another position.
This airy three-room stone house, like its medieval neighbor The Poet’s Place, has been home to numerous writers and artists. Just 50 meters below the church, it sits on the main road of a tiny farming village of authentic charm. Its large rooftop terrace offers splendid views of Todi and the Umbrian hills, where hikers can discover Roman roads and crumbling castles, spectacular flora and luxurious villas.
Casa ospitale e originale: sembra di essere contemporaneamente sia in Italia che all'estero.
Barry, il proprietario, si è prodigato, anche se a distanza, per accogliere e consigliare al meglio noi ospiti.
I have no words to describe our experience in Torre Gentile / Todi / Kind Tower. I want to tell the world how amazing this place is and at the same time, I want to keep it our little secret. To say this experience is life changing is not an understatement. We loved it so much that we ended up staying 2 extra days! Trust us - you will not be disappointed in the views, the adorable Poet's Annex, and the attention that the host(s) provide. Umbria as a whole is under-appreciated and I am so happy we took a chance on Barry and The Poet's Annex! Thanks, Barry! If I could give 10 stars, I would.
Our host Barry was wonderful. When we arrived, he made us feel welcome in his home with a glass of red wine. His home is perfectly simple and prepared for guests. Some basics in the fridge, a few bottles of wine and a cellphone for us to use whilst staying at his place. A great little collection of travel books and other books for reading whilst staying at his place, which really helped us slow down and enjoy our stay. The home was beautiful and tastefully decorated. The village was very quiet and out of the way. Perfect if you want to really unwind but not far enough away for day trips out. We fell a little bit in love with Italy, Umbria and the Italian way of life and staying at Barrys home was the perfect end to a wonderful holiday.
It's not good to go into a situation with high expectations. We did. After the amazing photos and the comfortable correspondence we had with Barry, how could we not? Poets Corner didn't disappoint - in fact it exceeded our expectations. We planned to stay for 4 nights to relax and unwind mid-way through our 4 weeks in Italy - we couldn't have chosen a better place. I tried to pass my time by reading and only got through a couple of pages - which I will have to read again because the view demanded my focus. Describing it as magical would not do the view justice. We felt so at home here we didn't really want to leave.
We couldn't speak more highly of the house and we didn't even wait until we left before we started talking about returning.
Do yourself a favour and stay at Poets Corner!
Molto grazie Barry!
