Thanks for stopping in! My apartment is right in the heart of Kensington Market, Toronto's most interesting, eclectic, and friendly neighbourhood. If you're looking for a safe, clean, hospitable place to stay in a vibrant locale, look no further :)
Your room is the largest one, between the kitchen (pictured here) and my bedroom (through the door on the far side of the photo).
Thanks for stopping in... As of August 2013, I'm all moved into my new apartment - in what I consider the best part of Toronto (and possibly the world)! If you're looking for a great place in the middle of Toronto's most vibrant neighbourhood, rest assured, you'll find it here. In addition to location (location, location), the apartment itself is rare find in a one-of-a-kind spot (which is why I took it!).
If you'd like a sense of the kind of hosting experience you can expect from me, please check out the reviews from my old apartment (about 10 minutes away on foot): https://www.airbnb.ca/users/reviews_new/569339.
Kensington Market (this place is located right in the heart of it) is one of Toronto's most interesting, eclectic, and friendly neighbourhoods. On most visitors’ list of places to check out, the area often ends up being the highlight. Home to a diverse community of artists, musicians and activists, Kensinton fosters a unique sense of community for locals and tourists alike.
The apartment is in a new building and is set back from the bustle of the street. There is a full shared vegetarian kitchen, air conditioning, a laundry machine, and Wifi internet. There is a city parking garage about 20m from the apartment and there is 24-hour access to the apartment keys on the day of your arrival.
This is the largest room in the apartment (besides the kitchen) and contains the basic Manstad mattress with an additional pillow-top, to make up a very firm and comfortable bed that is between a Double and King in size (strange European sizing!). You are welcome to watch the DVDs in the tiny vintage VHS-compatible TV, or read the books on the shelf, or to store your own belongings in front of the things on these shelves.
Caveat 1: my room is on the opposite side of this one, so if I am staying here while you are (or have a caretaker here while I'm gone), I/they may need to pass through on occasion to get in/out. Please check in with me before booking if you think this may be a problem for you!
Caveat 2: While this apartment is unique in Kensington for being away from street noise, the neighbour's generator across the courtyard creates "white noise" that can be heard in this room when it's on - if you're a light sleeper, I'm happy to provide ear plugs, just ask!
Kensington is a unique place in Toronto, with a variety of cafes, restaurants, boutiques, and vintage stores to check out. Just outside the apartment you can find all kinds of specialty cheese stores, dried goods, bakeries, fruit and vegetable stalls, and food from around the world. You can walk around enjoying the atmosphere or hang out in nearby Bellevue Square Park. Chinatown is right around the corner and the University of Toronto, Art Gallery of Ontario and other attractions are within walking distance.
The market is always bustling with tourists and locals, and on weekends you can often find live music and performers on the street. If you happen to be here on the last Sunday of the month for Pedestrian Sunday (May-Oct), the market will be closed to cars and there will be a variety of musicians and performers lining the streets.
I am a queer/friendly Torontoian open to hosting considerate guests of any nationality, sexual orientation, etc., who are willing to respect my home and "house rules" (including not smoking tobacco indoors, eating/preparing meat at home, or making excessive noise). I will try to make accommodations for your comfort and abilities where possible, but for those with mobility issues, please note that the apartment is on the 2nd floor and accessed via an outdoor staircase.
Thanks for checking out this listing - looking forward to hearing from you :)
-no tobacco smoking indoors & no pets unless previously cleared (allergies!)
-vegetarian kitchen: no meat on house dishes/utensils (eggs, dairy, & some fish ok - please check if not sure)
-please be considerate and take care of my home/belongings and don't remove items from the apartment without permission (towels, furniture, etc.)
-please clean up after yourself (wishing dishes, etc.)
-no additional guests without prior clearance please
Cara was delightful and made sure I had everything I needed. I was in and out in one night, so my best impression was how well I slept on a very comfortable bed. The neighborhood is fantastic with some of the best markets I have ever been to.
This was our first Airbnb experience. Before we even left for our trip, Cara emailed us a lot of detailed information answering all of our questions. The parking was easy, the key system was easy, and when we got in, she had everything set up so that we knew exactly where to go in her home. Cara was extremely friendly, wanted to know if she could do anything for us, and was a pro at telling us about the city. She was very accommodating and even offered us food and snacks. She was super polite and awesome whenever she had to pass through our room. She also is very easy going, which is nice. Cara is a great conversationalist and knows just as great people. The location is really in an area that is neat on its own, but can also be traveled very easily. We walked all over the city without much trouble at all. Overall, Cara's place was a really nice home base for our exploration of Toronto.
Cara is very welcoming host. I really felt like I am at my friends place.
Kensington market is great area, full of good cheap restaurants.
The description is very accurate.
I am happy I stayed at Cara's place.
Cara's place is right in Kensington Market which was really cool to hang out in, lots of shops, food and great coffee. The place was clean and tidy and had everything I needed, it was too bad I could only stay one night! Cara was very friendly and accommodating and she went well above and beyond the call of host, she even came to visit me at my show at the Cameron House. I would definitely stay again, thanks Cara!
Cara was an amazing host and was very helpful, even though we booked so last minute! She was very welcoming, easy to get a hold of, and showed us some cool spots to hit in Kensington Market (which is a perfect location to stay while in Toronto). The room we rented was very comfortable for the three of us staying there and everything was clean. We were definitely satisfied with our stay and want to come back the next time we are in Toronto.
Cara's place is located in the best part of Toronto and she is very welcoming! It was a short but very nice experience!
Loved Cara's place. It's bright and cheery and right in the middle of the market. Cara is warm, awesome, and made sure I was really comfortable. Thank you :)

I'm an interdisciplinary graduate student, holistic mind-body worker, community facilitator, and multiligual communicator living in the heart of Kensington Market (in my opinion, one of the most fabulous neighbourhoods in the whole wide world).
-Focusing (holistic mind-body wellness work -> if you're interested in booking a facilitated session while you're in town, please get in touch!)
-Banethi (or staff-spinning), on fire or not
-Words(mithing): English, Español, Français
-Being outside (especially when it's summery out)
-Playing in a fabulous community-based percussion (Samba) band (yes, I will invite you to shows, which are often free and wonderful)
-Connecting folks and ideas, theories and practices...
