About this listing

Thanks for stopping in! My apartment is right in the heart of Kensington Market, Toronto's most interesting, eclectic, and friendly neighbourhood. If you're looking for a safe, clean, hospitable place to stay in a vibrant locale, look no further :)

The space

Welcome to what I consider the best part of Toronto (and possibly the world)! If you're looking for a great place in the middle of Toronto's most vibrant neighbourhood, rest assured, you'll find it here. In addition to location (location, location), the apartment itself is rare find in a one-of-a-kind spot, through a private courtyard removed from the busy street.

Kensington Market (this place is located right in the heart of it) is one of Toronto's most interesting, eclectic, and friendly neighbourhoods. On most visitors’ list of places to check out, the area often ends up being the highlight. Home to a diverse community of artists, musicians and activists, Kensinton fosters a unique sense of community for locals and tourists alike.

The apartment is in a new building and is set back from the bustle of the street. There is a full shared vegetarian kitchen, air conditioning, a laundry machine, and Wifi internet. There is a city parking garage about 20 metres from the apartment and there is 24-hour access to the apartment keys on the day of your arrival.

This is the largest room in the apartment (besides the kitchen) and contains the basic Manstad mattress with an additional pillow-top, to make up a very firm and comfortable bed that is between a Double and King in size (strange European sizing!). You are welcome to watch the DVDs in the tiny vintage VHS-compatible TV, or read the books on the shelf, or to store your own belongings in front of the things on these shelves.

Caveat 1: my room is on the opposite side of this one, so if I am staying here while you are (or have a caretaker here while I'm gone), I/they may need to pass through on occasion to get in/out. Please check in with me before booking if you think this may be a problem for you!

Caveat 2: While this apartment is unique in Kensington for being away from street noise, the neighbour's generator across the courtyard creates "white noise" that can be heard in this room when it's on - if you're a light sleeper, I'm happy to provide ear plugs, just ask!

Kensington is a unique place in Toronto, with a variety of cafes, restaurants, boutiques, and vintage stores to check out. Just outside the apartment you can find all kinds of specialty cheese stores, dried goods, bakeries, fruit and vegetable stalls, and food from around the world. You can walk around enjoying the atmosphere or hang out in nearby Bellevue Square Park. Chinatown is right around the corner and the University of Toronto, Art Gallery of Ontario and other attractions are within walking distance.

The market is always bustling with tourists and locals, and on weekends you can often find live music and performers on the street. If you happen to be here on the last Sunday of the month for Pedestrian Sunday (May-Oct), the market will be closed to cars and there will be a variety of musicians and performers lining the streets.

I am a queer/friendly Torontoian open to hosting considerate guests of any nationality, sexual orientation, etc., who are willing to respect my home and "house rules" (including not smoking tobacco indoors, eating/preparing meat at home, or making excessive noise). I will try to make accommodations for your comfort and abilities where possible, but for those with mobility issues, please note that the apartment is on the 2nd floor and accessed via an outdoor staircase.

Thanks for checking out this listing - looking forward to hearing from you :)

Cara is the consummate Toronto hostess, bringing together charming hospitality, a sweet pad, and intimate knowledge of the city. The location is wonderful (you're in the heart of Kensington Market, one of the most unique neighborhoods in the country) and her place is clean and homey. A wonderful stay -- I look forward to returning next time I'm in Canada. Highly recommended!

This was our first time using Airbnb. We are so glad to have had Cara as our first host. She was very welcoming, and her apartment was very homey. It felt like staying with an old friend very safe and warm. We loved everything about the trip especially Kensington Market. We are planning on going back for sure.

Cara was a great host. She communicated often and in a timely fashion. She was very attentive and flexible in delivering the keys to her home when she had an evening out. This was my first experience as an Airbnb guest and it was excellent. Her location is right in the heart of Kensington Market. Cara left a sign at her home welcoming me with all contact phone numbers. The listing was totally accurate and the neighbourhood was quirky and great.

Cara was the most amazing host!! She made my first time using Airbnb feel very easy and safe. Her place was exactly what she described, and the neighborhood was even better than expected. We never got to meet, but Cara was very attentive, which made us feel so comfortable. The neighborhood is surrounded by great places to eat, and things to do. Most city attractions are so close, public transportation is a great option. Cara made our stay feel like we were staying at an old friends house. Totally recommend her!

It was my first time staying in Kensington Market. It was an amazing experience. The location is great. I loved waking up, and right outside the apartment the street had an amazing smell of freshly baked bread. Freshly squeezed fruit juices and all the Kensington market has to offer right at my doorstep. The apartment itself was very clean and tidy. Cara takes really good care of it, it looks so new! There was enough privacy to have time to myself whenever I wanted it. Cara was a great host! I got a warm welcome on my arrival and a she gave me a nice foodie treat on my way out :) She is very informative on the area and is always doing interesting things which she invited me to. She plays in a band too! And it was nice to watch them perform. She was always available for me either by phone or in person if I needed to contact her.

Cara made me feel very at home for my entire stay. She was extremely accommodating from check-in to check out and always willing to go the extra mile to give suggestions on all aspects of my trip, including restaurants, transportation, or shops in the area. The room was clean, comfortable, and was walking distance from everything that I needed. I would definitely rent again in the future!

I'm an interdisciplinary graduate student, holistic mind-body worker, community facilitator, and multiligual communicator living in the heart of Kensington Market (in my opinion, one of the most fabulous neighbourhoods in the whole wide world).

I'm into:

-Focusing (holistic mind-body wellness work -> if you're interested in booking a facilitated session while you're in town, please get in touch!)

-(Acro)Yoga

-Banethi (or staff-spinning), on fire or not

-Words(mithing): English, Español, Français

-Being outside (especially when it's summery out)

-Playing in a fabulous community-based percussion (Samba) band (yes, I will invite you to shows, which are often free and wonderful)

-Connecting folks and ideas, theories and practices...
