Description

The space

Casita 9A is the most secluded casita at Orchid Bay with a double water view from the screened in porch (west and north). The Maya Dock boardwalk, built on the submerged remains of an ancient Maya pier, and Maya Beach are right out the front door.

Note: Orchid Bay is actually located 1 mile across the river (Laguna Seca) from Copper Bank, not actually in Copper Bank as shown in the map tab. If you look on the map to the east and north of Copper Bank you will see Orchid Bay Road and Orchid Bay at the end of that road. It is approximately 12 miles from Corozal Town. See below for more directions.

Guest access

Restaurant, Swimming Pool, 2 Bicycles, DVD movies in Casita or movies available to rent at the Tradewinds. Four Paddle Boards are available just check them out from Restaurant (Tradewinds Bar & Grill). Laundry service is available from the on site property manager. High speed wireless internet is available for free. Arrangements can be made for excursions to several different Maya Ruins, Cave Tubing, Mennonite Farms and much more. If you want to go snorkeling you can fly over to the Islands, where you can access the reef, on Tropic Air just ask our manager to help you set up your reservations.

Interaction with guests

On site property manager will check guests in and out, and can provide contacts for tours, excursions, and transportation services.

Note: There is single $75 per stay (not per night) cleaning fee to cover maid service, cleaning, etc., in addition to the nightly rate.

The neighborhood

We love the peace and quiet that comes with staying here. The security of the property is wonderful and those that live here are fun to visit with. We are located between the small villages of Copper Bank and Chunox. Every Monday night they have soup night at the Tradewinds Restaurant - it's a time to have some delicious soup at a low price and mingle with those living and staying at Orchid Bay.

Getting around

Rental cars are available at the Belize City Airport, Corozal Town, Chetumal Mexico, or you can drive a rental car down from Cancun Mexico (about a 4 hour drive). If you do not want to rent a car transportation services are available from Belize V.I.P. Transfer Services located in Corozal.

Other things to note

Orchid Bay is in a secluded area between the small villages of Copper Bank and Chunox, in the Northern part of Belize. It does take about 2 hours to reach from the Belize airport, if you fly into the Corozal airport it is about a 45 min. drive on unpaved roads.
Options for getting to Orchid Bay :
1) Fly to Belize City and rent a 4X4. (All agencies have them) There are two options to drive to Orchid Bay. (each takes approx. 2 1/2 hrs and we will provide a map)
a) Take the paved Northern Highway to Corozal and then the last 3/4 hr is on a dirt/gravel/bumpy road. You will also have to cross two rivers on hand cranked ferries to get to Orchid Bay. These are pretty cool as you can ask the gentlemen if it's o.k. for you to crank and they will gladly oblige. This is the best way for your first time to Orchid Bay.
b) Take the paved Northern Highway to Orange Walk. Then turn to San Estevan, Little Belize and then to Orchid Bay.
2) Fly to Belize City and then hire a transfer to drive you to Orchid Bay.
3) Fly to Belize City and then fly to Corozal. Hire a transfer company to take you to Orchid Bay (approx. US$45) or rent a vehicle in Corozal. The cost is approx. $80/day including insurance. Belize has two national airlines : Tropic Air and Maya Island Air.
5) Fly into Cancun and then take Tropic Air to Belize City and then do one of the options above.
6) Fly into Cancun and rent a vehicle. Make sure you ask if the vehicle can be taken across the border to Belize.
7) Fly into Cancun and take ADO bus lines to Corozal, Belize and then get transfer company to pick you up and bring you to Orchid Bay.

Jon and Debi have a beautiful and well kept casita right on the water. This was our first time going to Belize and wgo e definitely picked the right spot. Everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable about activities, and where to go shopping and so forth. Taking the ferries to get to Corozal is a must!!! We had a such a great time we are definitely planning another trip to Belize and will be staying with Jon and Debi.

Jeff and Debi's Casita was more beautiful than pictured. The information they left in their home was so beneficial, not only about Orchid Bay but how to get to places and what to see and do when you get there. Anyone looking for a beautiful home to stay in, in an outstanding location, Orchid Bay should consider staying in Casita 9A.

WOW! When we arrived to this place we were blown away by the scenery and location. This casita is beautiful, clean, and has everything you need to cook your own meals and have a very comfortable stay. The water here is filtered which was really nice. This casita even has access to what feels like its own private dock (excellent for star gazing) and small beach. The staff at Tradewinds and Orchid Bay were all very helpful, friendly and accommodating. The whole property is so beautiful and full of wildlife! I would suggest making a visit to the lookout tower to see the adjacent jungle and watch the sunset, and taking advantage of the paddle boards to see more of the bay. This was a relaxing, quiet getaway, but if you want to be more social there are always friendly faces at the Tradewinds. Traveling to get to the casita from Belize City takes about two hours and there are definitely some long and very bumpy dirt roads as you travel around northern Belize, but it was all part of the adventure! Sarteneja, Orange Walk, and Corozal are not too far away but keep in mind it will take a little while to get to anywhere outside of Orchid Bay. If you are planning on visiting San Pedro island to do snorkeling/diving, it can be done as a day trip but it is a bit of a haul (totally worth it though!!). We also visited Lamanai and Shipstern Nature reserve, these were incredible places to check out. Jeff and Debi were very nice and helpful with planning our trip and activities we wanted to arrange before we got there, and they have even left a nice booklet in the casita of suggestions of things to do around Orchid Bay and beyond. Thanks so much for an amazing trip! I only wish we had stayed longer.

The casita is beautiful--the pictures do not do this place justice, Debi was very helpful making sure we had all the directions we needed. I would not recommend eating at the restaurant in the neighborhood as the manager is a bit dishonest about pricing--if you do eat there DO NOT start a tab. There are other biking destinations that are close such as Ceros that are more transparent and will give you honest pricing for excursions like fishing, ruin exploration, etc.

Response from Jeff And Debi:
Thank you for staying at our Casita, and we are sorry that you felt taken advantage of in the pricing at the restaurant. We have worked with owner of the restaurant many times and he is always very helpful. We recommend when you are in Belize to always clarify if a tour is in US dollars or Belize dollars. There are lots of tours to chose from, so we hope that you would shop around.

Debi and Jeff were wonderful hosts! They were quick to answer any questions and sent us driving directions and maps. Their casita is fantastic and just as described!!! The kitchen and living room is fully equipped. The master bed is comfortable with incredible views looking out onto the bay. A small beach is just steps from the front, screened porch. The restaurant on site has great food and drinks. Orchid Bay is incredibly tranquil and a wonderful retreat for those looking for peace and quiet in a friendly community. We feel fortunate to have found such a great place to vacation. We will definitely stay here again. Thanks to Debi and Jeff for sharing it with us!!

We purchased our Casita in Orchid Bay Belize mainly for our own use as a vacation home. We fell in love with Orchid Bay when we first visited in April of 2008 and purchased our casita pre-construction. It was completed in December of 2010. We are not yet able to be there for more than a few weeks a year and so are making it available for others to enjoy when we are not using it.
