Sara was an exceptional host. The apartment was as described- very clean, right on the beach, and with all the amenities that we could have needed for our week-long stay. We had put the wrong date on our booking and showed up a day too early, but Sara was gracious enough to let us stay the extra night and only charged us a cleaning fee. Her neighbor, who had the keys to the apartment, was very friendly, and showed us the apartment and how everything worked. The building itself was in a great location- right on the beach and about a 3 min walk from the old city. It was very safe to walk around even at night. The pool, which we only used once, was very clean. I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Cartagena who wants to be close to all the tourist attarctions while still living among local residents.
The apartment is very practical for one or two people. The view to the Ocean from the side of the apartment is also great. The best part is that there are windows you can open in the living room where amazing fresh air blows in from the ocean! There is no AC in the living room but I did not really spend much of a anytime in there and was either on the balcony or the bedroom. If you are more than two people and have guests staying in the living room in the sleep on couches this could be an issue during the day with the humidity. The building is nice but there is construction around so In the morning it could be noisy. The area in general is not like Bocagrande so there are no cafes or restaurants around and you must go to the walled city for that. There is one small convenience store (not a grocery store or supermarket) behind the building. It wa hard to get coffee around the area in the morning but the kitchen was very well equipped wi utensils etc. the front doorknob was a bit tricky but I was finally able to master it and open without calling the front desk after one time. The building does have an elevator (only one of the two always seems to be working) but you have a but of an approach from the front to the main reception area if you have lots of luggage as you cannot have a taxi pull right into the lobby. The host was very gracious and gave me a discount. She has a nice older lady who checked me in. There was no warm water in the bathroom and besides for shaving I really didn't need the hot running water! They have a lovely swimming pool in the reception area. If you are on a budget and you absolutely cannot live without a balcony or terrace (like me) than this is a great option. The neighborhood is very safe. Overall it's a great deal for a single or couple traveling. The apartment would be a bit too crowded for more than two even though it does seem to have a couple of sofa beds!
Sara was quick to respond to emails. Apartment nice - basic but had all we needed and we cooked all 5 nights! Big supermarket (Exito) 10 min walk away and good mini market on the back street next door - great homemade cake and pasteries in the afternoon. GREAT sea view with balcony. Rosina helpful and on check out asked if we were told about the cleaning fee - we weren't. Great to be able to do laundry. The only downside was that the swimming pool was really dirty so we never used it (and I booked the place because of the pool but we would still stay there again) but the ocean is right there and much cleaner than the swimming pool. Close to town - 10 min walk and we never took taxi's at night but we learnt we should "run on the curve" because it can be dangerous and people stealing - we never had a problem.
Good experience and would recommend
The location, security and assistance provided from the manager, Rosaria, were excellent. However the apartment needs updating and no hot water available. The shower head is very old and water trickles down. The kitchen towels threadbare and only two towels provided for a three night stay. Staying near the ocean, beach towels would have been very useful. One roll of toilet paper for a three night stay is not enough.
A little apartment right on the beach, and only a few minutes walk into the old town. The apartment was clean and had everything that we needed. The beach outside is good, without being great. Perfect for a couple. The furniture inside is very basic and could be better - a very hard bed and not especially comfortable couches - but these weren't deal breakers for us.
This apartment was absolutely perfect for our needs. It looks exactly like the photos in the listing and is quite clean and comfortable. Both the air conditioning and wi-fi work great and my boyfriend and I had a wonderful time staying here. The private kitchen and balcony were perfect.
Sara and Sra. Rosario were wonderfully accommodating and provided us with all of the information that we needed (even before we arrived - which made getting to the apartment from the airport simple.
The neighborhood is quite safe and it is a five minute walk from the old city. I would have preferred being within the walled city as that's where most of the action in Cartagena was but it wasn't too bad being just outside.
