The Space

My home is a one room artist's studio close to Noe Valley and walking distance to the Mission District vibrant cafes, nightlife and restaurants.

Cool things to check out around the flat:

Most taquerias in the Mission district are pretty good, but my current favorite is Tacolicious, (741 Valencia street)
For vegetarians: Gracias Madre – Vegan Organic Fresh Mexican food (2211 Mission (email hidden)) and, Cha-Ya – Vegetarian Delicious Japanese food (762 Valencia (email hidden)ere is also Papalote Mexican Grill (3409 24th street at Valencia Street) with great vegetarian tacos and burritos and also meat options.

For carnivores: Grass fed burger with sweet potato fries at The Liberties down the street (998 Guerrero (email hidden)). Open late till 2:00 AM, restaurant rooms are separate from the sports bar, great vibe. Another good burger place is Barney’s (4138 24th stret).

Best Italian around here is Delfina, reservations recommended (3621 18th street). Sugoi Sushi (1058 Valencia street) will surprise and delight you with its fine balance of humbleness and sophistication. Escape from New York Pizza (3342 22nd street) is your best option for pizza by the slice or ordering a pie. Sit down pizza/salad place a bit more fancy and great for people watching is Farina at the corner of Valencia and 18th st. Brunch or breakfast is at Boogaloos (3296 22nd street at Valencia) – don’t let the crowd scare you away; waiting at the sunny corner is part of the experience.

If you are a coffee aficionado like I am, please please please have a macchiato or a latte at Ritual Roasters (1026 Valencia st). If you like pastries with your coffee, check out the croissants and bread pudding from Tartine (600 Guerrero Street). It’s a long line, but if it’s just for coffee don’t get in line, just go straight inside and order at the coffee bar.

Dandelion Chocolate Factory (740 Valencia street) is a must see. They serve hot chocolate in European and Mexican styles and fresh cacao fruit smoothies. Plus you get to see the staff making their small batches chocolate bars. Closed Monday and Tuesdays though.

Ice Cream
Humphry Slocombe (2790A Harrison street) and Bi-Rite Creamery (3692 18th street)

Lone Palm (you can see the tree that names the bar and stands tall in front of it from my window!) at 3394 22nd street. It’s divey, but reliable.

Grocery Stores
Bi-Rite Grocery (3639 18th street) – has also ready entrees and great sandwiches to take for a picnic in the park. Whole Foods is up the hill in Noe Valley (3950 24th street)

Live Music: The Chapel (777 Valencia street), Amnesia (853 Valencia Street) and Elbo Room (647 Valencia street) are small venues along Valencia Street. Ther is also Café Revolution (it’s free music, but is also hit or miss: could be awesome or awful. It’s always worth taking a look at what’s going on there though) at 3248 22nd street.

Art and other Cool things
826 Valencia, the pirate store supply/creative writing workshop, is a must go. Right near it, City Art gallery shows local art and Paxton Gate offers exotic gardening and 24th street has lots of cool art galleries as you go down towards the deep inner Mission District. Thrift stores and cool boutiques galore, and my favorite jewelry designer is Claudia Kussano (591 Guerrero Street)

Dolores Park for picnic and people watching, or take the Muni bus to Golden Gate Park or the Ocean Beach.

Yoga Tree Valencia, Yoga Tree Castro, Yoga Kula, Laughing Lotus are some of my favorite studios around the house, but my top choice is Urban Flow (1543 Mission Street). Not so close, about a 30 minute walk. But so worth it!

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Judith has a really comfortable, bright, and clean studio in a great area close the Mission, Castro and public transport. There are also some great little touches to make it feel more like a true B&B (like a small decorated box with a spare phone charger in case you forgot yours). Only stayed one night but would definitely have enjoyed staying a bit longer !

  • Judith's apartment is very nice - sunny, nicely decorated, comfortable and in a great neighborhood. She was flexible about arrangements and on-call if needed. All in all I highly recommend staying in her place.

  • Nothing but good things to say. She has a nice little place that's off the noisy streets but plenty close by to walk to, including transit to get around town. The window makes for a very nice sunny morning too! As for Judith herself, she's very responsive to communication and personally, I liked the fact that she has a lot of recommendations for places to go and things to do around the area. I would definitely recommend a stay here. Great location in a great part of town.

  • Super clean and wonderful space in the best part of the city. Ours was a short stay but fantastic!

  • We had a brief but enjoyable 1 night stay at Judith's apartment! It's in a great location - very easy to walk to restaurants and great coffee (I really appreciated Judith's recommendation on Ritual Roasters for coffee!). The apartment was a good size for a studio - particularly the bathroom - and has lots of natural light as well as quite a nice view. The bed was firm and very comfortable. Judith's communication was excellent and made for an easy last-minute booking. I wish we could have stayed longer!

  • Judith was very patient with my boyfriend and I as we clumsily fumbled through our first airbnb experience. The place was clean and in a great location - close to all of the Mission/Valencia activities we were hoping for. Overall great experience!

  • We really enjoyed our stay. It was close to the Muni and Mission District. There were plenty of places eat and drink. The building was clean and quiet, we never saw any of the tenants.

Yoga teacher / freelance writer
I am a Brazilian transplant living in San Francisco for 12 years. I moved here to work in technology and this magic town turned me into a yoga teacher. I'm also a writer, and I travel a lot. I love sharing my place with fellow travelers, and enjoy getting to know places by staying over with locals.
