The borough of San Lorenzo, due to the vicinity of the University of Rome La Sapienza, is peopled by lots of students and is full of pubs, clubs and night bars. During World War II it was heavily bombed, but now it is one of the busiest boroughs of Rome, especially for nightlife.
Walking around the open market of this borough is one of the best ways to discover its dynamics, its traditions and typical behaviours. There are stories behind apparently trivial scenes and meaningful glances that are not difficult to understand if you have the patience to wander around the stalls.
The bell tolling of the nearby Santa Maria Immacolata church punctuates time; the belfry is built in the same way as that of San Marco in Venice. At lunchtime, you can have some delicious slices of pizza at the pizzeria “Come Manna dal Cielo”, on 68 Via dei Latini. True roman pizza that is shown to you uncooked and then cooked just after, ask why! You can eat it at Parco dei Caduti, in Via Tiburtina; don’t miss the monument placed in the middle of the park, designed by the architect Zevi in 2003 to the memory of the three thousand victims of the bombs.

Barbara was a terrific host. She met us at the apartment and made sure we got settled in. The apartment is spacious and lovely for a family of five. There are two large bedrooms and an ample kitchen that is well-stocked and a sitting area. The apartment is on the ground floor of a building with a courtyard. The neighborhood - San Lorenzo - is great. It's not touristy. There are many restaurants, cafe's, shops nearby. Termini is a 15 minute walk away. Would definitely return.
