There are two options, Entire home or sharing.....it can be both in my house just email me and we'll discuss it. Read on for further info.
I have had a very interesting and successful experience with airbnb with my cottage rent peace and quiet. I've built an extension onto the cottage on the west side and my friends and family always joking and and called Sheilas "West Wing" is the name that is sticking. 2 large bedrooms, a large front room the "dawn ballroom" perfect for yoga dancing and large dinner parties and when the table is extended. There are two bathrooms one upstairs and a downstairs wc and shower wet room. kitchen is large and a delight to cook in. I have designed it and built it while living next door. I like welcoming people into my home. I work away from home so often I Will be away Monday to Friday so I Will be happy to have people all the week maybe some weekends I may want it all to myself but am very social so I really like meeting and having interesting conversations with people from all over the world. I travel lots myself and love meeting like minded people.
Guests will have a peaceful tranquil location with spectacular views and it is a delight for anyone who needs to escape the city and just breath. The neighbours are sweet and farming and fishing and arts and crafts types. There are two pubs one has a restaurant and both have really picturesque beer gardens overlooking the harbour. The village of Ahakista is rather tiny with just two pubs an art gallery/coffee shop and garden, a school and a church (all spread out) There are two other villages on the penninsula, Durrus and Kilcrohane and we are halfway between them. There are shops and cafes in both villages. Lots of hill walkers come for easy and unspoilt walking routes called the sheeps head way.
It is best to come by car but if you did not I can pick you up and drop you back to the bus in Bantry or Bandon where I work... It is important that the times must be close to my work times.
My place is unique or special as it has a lovely character without the perfection that makes hotels and modern houses boring and soulless. I love it and am very proud of it and love sharing it with people as it designed to have cosy corners and large party spaces also. I hope you will love it as much as I do.
Thanks for considering my West Wing for your holiday destination.
wifi internet/restaurant and bars.
no smoking indoors
Treat my home like its yours if you love it as much as I love mine.
Wash up dishes pots and pans or use dishwasher.
Use coasters as I have beautiful wood tables and they will damage and get rings if coasters are not used.
no dirty shoes/hiking boots inside. slippers provided.
Leave my house as you found it with fond memories and a wish to return.
Thanks Sheila for a warm welcome to your idyllic hideaway in sheep's head. What an amazing view from the house!! The cottage was perfect with everything one would need to have a real enjoyable stay.
We felt very welcome and Sheila was very helpful in all of our stay. We wished to stay longer and unfortunately not possible. We got the best of help to be accomodated elsewhere :)
Best of recommodations for the place and especially the surroundings. The house has everything needed and is situated in very beatiful surroundings.
Sheila is a great and prompt responder and her place is as described. We really enjoyed our quiet stay and even had good views of the Milky Way. Highly recommended.
Sheilas West Wing is a wonderful rustic cottage in rural West Cork. We loved it. It is everything we hoped for. Comfortable, casual, with stunning views. The people beyond friendly and welcoming. Wonderful food as well as a well poured Guiness within one kilometer. West Wing is clearly an ongoing effort of love with creative and artistic creations within. It is surrounded by cows, sheep, the sea, a wonderful bay and a good starting point to reach all of the desired destinations in southwest Ireland. A great place for us to first be introduced to Ireland. Sheila is a wonderful host. We were wonderfully welcomed by the whole community. Jack and Dee
I am delighted to be getting so many interesting guests from all over the world and with that I can appreciate what I have achieved thus far and with wonderful and helpful constructive suggestions I make my to do list which is gardening/tidy up and next construction of the hot tub in the garden pagoda. The ongoing maintenance and new project is a list getting longer and shorter as I develop my property from a tumble down cottage 10 years ago to a beautiful cosy cottage and a much more spacious West Wing. I encourage people to observe the before photo album. I also like to tell them that almost everything that comes from airbnb guest gets ploughed back into the houses. Like putting in a beautiful stove in the West Wing for toasty winter nights. Thanks Airbnb guests for your continued support.
Sheila's cottage met all our expectations and has a charm and character all of its own...It was a once in a lifetime experience for us - the sheer beauty of the surrounds and scenery right at the window sill and door step! We were able to explore the beautiful coast line and mountains (even with 3 kids in tow!) and visit some lovely beaches. It is hard to do justice in describing this place - the pictures are accurate - in fact the West Wing was far more spacious than we had thought which was excellent. Sheila was very generous in making whatever supplies there available to us and made a special trip to personally meet us. Thank you for giving us this wonderful opportunity - we will remember it very fondly.
cheers, Pettina and Garry and Kids
Hi Garry and Pettina,
I wish I had longer to chat that night but life is rather busy at the moment. I love being able to share my vision with people of what the future house/gardens will look like and hopefully they will be able to see all the improvement that they have been a part of the making....Each persons money goes back into the house....paying bills or making improvements. Your money will go towards next phase which is hot water solar panels and a stove so that the emersion is just a back up rather than being the only way to heat water. The hot tub and extra is a while off yet but hot to have that by next summer.
This was a very nice experience. Sheila was in contact right away and gave very good information about her beautiful place and the way to find it. When we arrived everything was as she said.
We've just stayed in Sheilas lovely house and we've really a nice time. Unfortunately we didn't meet Sheila but she prepared everything for a very warm welcome. Thanks for everything!

Hello! I'm a fun, creative person and a teacher of Technical Drawing and Wood work. I've worked hard to renovate my house and am very proud of it.
I've had all kinds of house guests over the years: WWOOFers, Helpex-ers, Family and lots Friends. Now I'll add the airbnb guests to the long list of happy visitors. I lead guided hillwalks on the Sheeps Head Way.
If needed I will pick you up in Bantry and drop you back if you are traveling by bus. I'd love a longer stay couple who will look after themselves as I'm coming and going lots during school term and often am not home at all for several nights a week. During the summer I am around minus the times I'm off to France for a two week holiday, usually every summer.
I speak English, Irish, French, some Spanish, Italian and Japanese. I am keen on languages and love learning them. I am also very much into nutrition (natural and herbal) and I now teach Weight loss and nutrition. If anybody is interested I also teach Dancercise and fitness classes and run Weight Loss and healthy nutrition weeks and weekends. I've turned my life around by changing my nutrition and getting fit. I lost 45lb and totally transformed my body from fat to fit....more than happy to help you to do the same.
