This bed and breakfast boasts the BEST VIEW in Copacabana. Look at the pictures, you can see! The sunrise, and the sunset from the terrace are simply spectacular.
Situated on the hill behind Leme, Copacabana this family home is perfect as a base to explore Rio.
Babilonia is a neighbourhood of Copacabana which sits neatly on the hill behind the Leme end of the beach. You can access by taxi, or you can walk there. The area is safe, friendly and open for tourists to explore. Some of the coolest grafitti in Rio can be seen on the walls here.
The small Copacabana community of Babilonia has approx 5000 residents and was "pacified" in 2009. It is now an up an coming neighbourhood in itself. It is a 10 minute walk to the beach from the house. In the neighbourhood there are schools, banks (Bradesco & Itau), shops, bars, hostels, small hotels, and a great community spirit.
This accommodate is perfect for travelers who wish to experience Rio with a real Brazilian family.
A twin bedroom with a private bathroom (which is cleaned daily). Guests are also welcome to make use of the 2 rooftop terraces which are common areas for the 6 guest rooms
Interaction with Guests
Thiago is English speaking, and happy to help visitors orientate themselves in Rio. The family are welcoming and look forward to interact with guests as little or as much as they wish.
Babilonia is a small favela on the hill at the Leme end of Copacabana beach. The area has a safe and friendly atmosphere, with children playing in the streets, visitors are welcome to explore here. We know most of our neighbours and my family has been living here for generations. Please come visit and enjoy the community spirit and the amazing views to Copacabana and even to Cristo.
Moto-taxi (which costs R$3.00), taxis, bus and the closest metro station is Cardeal Arcoverde.
To travel from the airport to Copacabana I suggest you take the yellow cabs outside the airport - this should cost approx R$70 and the 20km journey usually takes 25mins depending on the traffic.
There are also regular buses, and express buses to Zona Sul from outside the airport.

Thiago and his mom Vera were excellent hosts while I stayed at their guesthouse in Leme for 4 nights. They were very flexible with my schedule. The other guests while I was staying there were very friendly and social. Easy access to Copacabana despite the steep climb, and the views from the deck were amazing. Excellent way to experience a slice of life in this favela in Leme.
My fiance and I stayed here for a week during carnival. It was simply amazing. The roof top terrace really has the best view. You can see Copacabana and the Christ statue while enjoying a fabulous breakfast (the best we had in our 8 weeks of South America). It's a very steep climb to the hostel but we always took the motor taxis for 3 Reales which was a cheap and fun way to get to the top. We felt really safe in the area. All in all I can only recommend staying here if you are visiting Rio.
I spent 7 days here. Thiagos home has a phantastic view of Copacabana and Christo Redentor. You can enjoy it from the hammok on the terrace and even have a seaview from your room. The breakfast is very good. Needless to say, that the room, the bathroom and the kitchen with all other shared areas are very clean and tidy.
You can walk to the beach and the mototaxis bring you back up the hill after swimming.
I totally recommend to stay here. If I come back to Rio I will do so myself.
I enjoyed staying at Thiago's family's house. The room was simple and clean and the neighborhood authentic and interesting. I never felt unsafe, even by myself. The views from the terraces are stunning, the neighborhood quiet at night and there is always a breeze that was most welcome in the heat. I never met Thiago, but his mother, who runs the BnB was very welcoming. We "talked" with fragments of language and gestures. That is no problem for me but of course I could not ask elaborate questions or get sightseeing advice. I was happy that there were some other guests with whom I could converse in English or German when we were all at the house, or I would not have had a conversation with anybody for a week. Few people in Brazil speak other languages.
Thiago and his family were incredible hosts. Everyday there was a delicious breakfast, and Thiago truly has the best view in Copa, you can see Christ the Redeemer statue from your breakfast table! Thiago's mum Vera was always very helpful and washed our clothes for us. Thiago was also very generous in helping us book our bus to our next location and offering some of his barbecue and beer. The neighbourhood was friendly and we always felt safe. Very highly recommended. Thank you Thiago and Family
Adorei ficar na casa do Thiago. A vista dispensa comentários! Adorei a estada! Recomendo muito!
Casa de Thiago has a wonderful view and the hosts were very nice. We stayed for two days at the beginning of January, and enjoyed the free breakfast, views, and proximity to the beach. We had a little trouble finding the place (it's way up on the hill), but friendly people in the neighborhood showed us the way. Thiago's mother, whom we met during our stay, was very helpful and communicative, which was a relief. We practically had our own floor and bathroom, until another guest came the second day (who was also very nice) and the room and bathroom was spacious and clean. We came at the end of one of the hottest weeks, so the room was a bit hot despite the two ceiling fans. It's only about a 10-minute walk downhill to the beach and you can take a moto-taxi back up for $3 or $4 Reals. We would definitely recommend this place for a nice place to relax.

I am Carioca (someone from Rio) and have lived in this beautiful city all my life. I love to surf, skateboard, have barbecues, play football, socialise with friends, and enjoy the Rio way of life. We look forward to welcoming you to our house here in Copacabana.
