The house is one bedroom one bathroom with hot water. The bedroom has a Queen bed. The kitchen has a good sized fridge and a gas cook top. The house is fully furnished including sheets and towels. The house is perfect for a couple, and very affordable for Malpais.
Malpais is fabulous year around. The rainy season from May to end of November is really nice. It usually rains at night but it is fresh and green and sunny during the day.
There is a Swedish woman and her Tico husband close by to show you the house and give you the keys. They know the area and can answer any questions you might have.
The house is located in the village of Malpais away from the dusty roads and it is not up any difficult hills so it is easy to get to. It is behind the village within walking distance to an organic restaurant and grocery store. Walk a little more and you'll get to where the fishing boats come in. Have the fishermen take you out fishing, or just buy their catch. Behind where the fishing boats come in is a secret beach where the waves don't crash on you and you can snorkel. If you like to surf, there are surfing spots all along the coast up to Santa Teresa.
There is a beautiful sailboat that will take you for sunset tours. For the adventurous, there is a canopy tour. You can also rent paddle boards.
Malpais and Santa Teresa are connected by a long dirt road, there are lots of international restaurants along the road, and also bars and stores. Lots of grocery stores that carry all you want.
Nature is what draws a lot of people here. The wildlife is amazing!, Lots of monkeys, Howler and Capuchin and lots of tropical birds, too much to list, come and see for yourself.
I would also recommend renting a car, an atv or a bicycle, which are all available in Malpais.
Our stay in Laila's house was very good. It's a nice house with a lot of privacy and a big chance to see some wild animals up close. It's basic but everything worked as it should. It's a nice retreat from the busy Santa Teresa!
Tnx Laila for the warm welcome :)
We loved the location of Laila's house. It is not touristic at all (we liked that). Very quiet, green and private! Because of all the big trees there is a lot of shadow and there was always a light breeze. There were very few mosquitoes (which is very special so close to the beach!)
The house itself is very basic. No A/C, no TV, no Wifi. The porch is very nice and spacious. The kitchen works fine for cooking small simple meals. The bedroom has two big windows and a good bed. (the howler monkeys will wake you at 5 am ;) ).
