Cosy double room with brand new mattress in a quiet area just 2 minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of Cork's lovely city centre. Great garden, sweet little pets and a chilled-out atmosphere in a beautiful old house!
Cosy double room with brand new mattress in a quiet area just 2 minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. The bedroom catches the morning sunlight, whilst the evening rays soak the garden.
We have two small dogs and two cats; the dogs (one Jack Russell and one Dachshund mix) are quiet (usually!), energetic and very friendly, whereas the cats (one is veeeery old) just like chilling and eating.
Everything Cork city has to offer is within walking distance of the house, and there is a friendly tourist office close by, though we would be delighted to share our knowledge of the city with you! There are plenty of leaflets about Cork's attractions and surroundings in the bedroom too. Walking distance to both bus and train stations (each 10 minutes walk), and a 20-minute bus journey to the airport.
100mb wi-fi connection - broadband
Bathroom with new electric shower (Update: Shower is now SHARED and is cleaned daily)
Towels, bed linen, shower gel, shampoo, etc. are provided
Tea and coffee making facilities in the room (freshly ground coffee and a large selection of herbal teas!)
Large garden with garden furniture and vegetables
Very central; close to bars, shops, restaurants, sights.
On-street disc parking (tickets are available in local shops and I usually stock some here too!)
Large fridge in the basement where you can store yummy goodies
Please let me know if you would like to use the kitchen so that we can accommodate :)
Check-in and check-out times are negotiable, depending on our working hours, but usually after 4pm would be good. Please give us a check-in time with a maximum error of one hour! Directions will be made available to anyone with a confirmed booking.
Please contact through AirBnB, not through private email; thanks!
I love cooking, reading, relaxing with nice music, long walks and travelling. The house is beautiful, bright and spacious with loads of character and charm! Lots of original features, such as shutters on the windows, stained glass, wooden floors, high ceilings, etc. The kitchen is currently unavailable for personal use, though you can email beforehand and we may be able to accommodate you (as long as you don't mind animals bouncing around!) :)
We don't smoke during the day in the house, though we sometimes smoke in the evening in the kitchen, which is on the ground floor and the guest room is on the third floor (but if you are strongly opposed to this, please let us know and we have no problem to go outside!).
Really friendly area, lots of old men with dogs pottering around!
The house is situated just a 3-minute walk from the town centre; a 7-minute walk to Kent station (train station) and a 5-minute walk to Parnell Place bus station. The airport is about a 20-minute taxi ride (costs about 14euro).
Quiet after 11pm on weekdays please!
Let us know the day before if you want breakfast :) I will leave it out for you in the kitchen
If you would like to use the kitchen, please let us know in advance as we hang out there most of the time! Please give us a check-in time with a maximum error of one hour, so we can organise ourselves! :)
Also - VERY important - Please close the front door PROPERLY when entering or leaving, as it opens on to the street and I would be worried about the cats!
Maité's place was great! I didn't get to stay long, but it's a very cool space- a big, old house with tons of character. My bedroom was on the top floor, very cozy, and almost attic-like. During my stay, I had access to the entire floor- my bedroom, a private bath, and an office space I was invited to use. The house is on a hill, with amazing views of the city. All you have to do is walk down and you're in the middle of it all. Maité was super friendly and welcoming. I wish I could have stayed longer! Would definitely come back.
Maite is a very hospitable young lady! I am very grateful to her for these days in Cork. The room is very comfortable and clean. You can turn the heater on if you need so even in winter it`s warm in the room. Moreover, you can use another room close to your bedroom, it`s a wonderful place for the rest and a cup of tea. Also Maite provided me with cereals, tea and coffee.
However, there`s a problem with a shower cause it can be slightly warm or extremely hot.
The location of the house is perfect. Just 5 mins by foot and you`re in the city centre.
I can recommend to everyone this place.
Maite was a wonderful host and her place was adorable and very conveniently located. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
My days at Maite's house were really perfect!
She is very cheerful and open minded girl.
Furthermore she was very kind and helpful during all time and also her mother was very friendly.
I had also the opportunity to taste their dishes, really great!
The room is really comfortable, isolated in the last floor of the house with bathroom beside.
The pets are funny and absolutely no noisy.
So, what can I say? Thanks Maite, I reccomend her to all travelers!
Our stay at Maité's house was lovely, the house and room was comfortable and as described. The walk into the centre of Cork was extremely quick, we could easily do it in less than 10 minutes, so that was extremely useful. There is a coach/bus station in the centre too which had a lot of buses going to neighbouring towns and country areas. Maité is an extremely friendly and easy going host, it was so lovely to chat to her and pet her doggies!
I was largely disappointed with this listing for a number of reasons, which I will expand upon below. Positive aspects included proximity to the centre of Cork and the accuracy of photographs supplied in terms of the bedroom's decor.
There was no central heating, only storage heaters in the bedrooms, so the house was very, very cold given the time of year. Although the storage heaters made the bedrooms warm, the regulatory controls for the heater in my room were jammed shut behind a plastic cover and the dial was turned to maximum. Therefore, the room was either overly warm or freezing. Given that there were no heaters on the landings or in the bathroom, these were always cold. The shower was hot, but that was more a paltry bonus given the temperature of the room itself.
Although I love animals and am a dog owner myself, the pets in the house were not correctly regulated. The cat was allowed to roam freely on the kitchen table and work surfaces and, on one morning in particular, when entering the kitchen to make breakfast, I was greeted by animal waste (dog feces and cat vomit) on a kitchen chair and the floor. This was after an evening when the dogs had been barking repeatedly and I had alerted the host accordingly via text message; I did not receive any acknowledgement, reply or reaction.
What was most disappointing and frustrating, was the host's dearth of management ability, specifically in relation to communicating with me. As well as the the incident mentioned above relating to her pets, on trying to contact her with a few simple questions at the start of my stay, she took a day to reply because she's 'not really a high tech person and doesn't check these things as much as [she] should' (Quoted from communication).
The lack of communications savvy remained an issue for the rest of my truncated stay. As stated above, although I alerted her to the animal noise - firstly - and then - secondly - the waste in the kitchen, she did not reply and has yet to acknowledge the incident or apologize when I quite clearly stated that I perceived this to be unacceptable. In addition, although I left the premises early and we agreed that she would reimburse me for the remaining nights originally agreed upon, I have yet to receive those funds although I have made multiple efforts to forward on my bank details.
I have noted that the rest of the reviews of the property have been very positive, so perhaps my experience is not representative. However, it is an experience nonetheless and one that I hope is not replicated in future.
