Self check-in

Check yourself in with the lockbox.
This rare, isolated "inholding" within the boundaries of Acadia National Park offers extraordinary 180-degree views of Somes Sound; a 700sf wraparound deck; private swimming rocks; fire pit; picnic area; outdoor shower; kayaks; canoe; bikes and more. The open living room and eat-in kitchen provide exquisite views and light with 300sf of glass. This one-of-a-kind home on Mount Desert Island is surrounded on all sides by Acadia's wilderness, and is five minutes from Northeast Harbor by car.

The space
**Except for the shoulder seasons, we only allow Friday to Friday rentals. Exceptions can be made on a case by case basis.**

This site has been the Reath family home for nearly 100 years. (The current home was built in 1972.) Most walls facing the water are glass. The deck is 40 feet around and hangs over granite slabs on the edge of Somes Sound. There is plenty of parking; the town of Northeast Harbor is a five-minute drive away. Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Bass Harbor are 15-20 min.

The open kitchen ajoins an airy living room with a fireplace. Bathrooms and kitchen were remodeled in 2007. We have recently added AC/Heat in bedrooms for comfort. All rooms are immaculately cleaned between guests. Ride bikes, kayak in Somes Sound, read in the hammock, watch schooners sail past just a few hundred feet away, or hike right off the driveway into Acadia National Park. Listen to lobstermen setting their traps in the morning and have cocktails at sunset on the deck. The fully equipped kitchen, with island, is great for hosting. The washer/dryer, outdoor shower and picnic area mean you never have to leave home.

The Internet is generally fully capable for remote work, video calls, etc…, but due to remote location, heavy use across multiple devices can cause delays. We do have a phone landline as well.

There is a quarter mile of private oceanfront to wander, swim and sunbathe. A stream running through the property will put you to sleep at night, as will the sound of the ocean and wind through the native rock pines.

A small stream and a footbridge separate the "Little House" from the "Big House." Both homes are private and isolated from each other with their own parking areas. The "Little House" is available for rental as well. You can find it at www.airbnb.com/h/reathrocklittlehouse.

Guest access
You get the entire house, lower parking area, surrounding woods on your side of the stream, spectacular rocky shoreline, private swimming rocks, playhouse for kids, sitting benches in the woods and trails to the ocean.

There is a small guest house on the other side of the stream that has its own parking area and is rented separately—or can be rented with the main house (www.airbnb.com/h/reathrocklittlehouse). Both homes are very private with their own waterfronts and views. There is also the original 1937 cabin that our family built on the property, that family will occasionally overnight in if they are working on the house or helping guests. It is completely private as well and owners will not interact with guests unless asked to do so.

Other things to note
The one bedroom guesthouse, with kitchen and deck, can be rented with this house. You can find the information at www.airbnb.com/h/reathrocklittlehouse.

Neighborhood highlights

The house is totally private. It is well off the road and directly on the water. Because the house sits in an inholding within the park, there are no neighbors at all, except for osprey, bald eagles, seals and porpoises. The nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away. Golf, tennis, shopping and dining out are a five-minute drive.
