The Space

Charming older home with easy free street parking, quiet neighborhood close tor park and Hillcrest.
We have easy check in and out, no parking problems, and a kitchen. There are none of the hidden charges becoming common in hotels.

Enjoy our lovely private apartment with full kitchen and comfortable lounge. You will be free to enjoy the secluded garden with covered patio. Sit and watch the humming birds buzz around. The apartment is larger than the pictures show. The living room has a couch, love seat and still room for two twin beds. A family of four can sleep comfortably.

The apartment is very close to the historical Spruce Street bridge and part of the very safe and beautiful Bankers Hill neighborhood. This is a favorite area for walkers.
There is a queen bed for 2, another single bed in the living room and ewe can add another mattress.
Your will make yourself a home in a private secluded one bedroom apartment. It is a separate part of a 1922 craftsman style house. The kitchen is a bright room with plenty of storage and a lovely breakfast nook that seats four. The back door leads to secluded colorful garden with a shaded dining area.
Facilities included: WIFI, Direct TV, washer/dryer, queen bed, couch, breakfast nook, and a full kitchen. The washer dryer is in a separate room in the back yard.
We are 5 blocks from the Balboa Park (zoo, museum, and theater), 1 mile from downtown, As the hosts we will be at hand to advise you the sights to see and how to get around. We are only a 5-10 minutes walk away from the numerous excellent restaurants and bars of Hillcrest. Bus stop on corner that is only 5-10 minutes ride to downtown.
You will feel relaxed and comfortable in a quiet secluded area.

Guest Access

The quaint bark garden is there for guests to use. It is a quiet private place to relax and watch hummingbirds frolic.

Interaction with Guests

I leave that up to my guests. Sometimes I never get to meet the guests other times we chat every day. I consider myself friendly but conscious of others privacy.

The Neighborhood

The west side of Balboa Park is 5 blocks away, with all its museums, walks and the zoo. Hillcrest is 1/2 mile with great restaurants and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Downtown is a mile away, a ten minute bus ride from us.

Getting around

Bus stop on the corner, (80 feet away) - 11 bus gets you downtown in less than ten minutes or Hillcrest in 5.

Other Things to Note

PLEASE curb your wheels. The street parking is free and there are no restrictions - you can leave it there all day everyday.
When on a hill turn you front wheels to the left if facing up hill, and to the right if facing downhill.
Up and away, down and towards.

  • Great hosts with a vintage suite in a great neighborhood. John and his wife were very friendly and interesting. We had a very relaxing visit and a great day at Sea World. San Diego is a great destination with a great deal to do with a fantastic environment. This location is perfectly located and very safe. My military son did his PT and running in the park.

  • This was our second stay with John! He and his wife are very accommodating, organized, and friendly. We enjoyed our stay and love the convenience of the location, and beautiful outdoor space associated with the environment. They are also pet friendly, and our little pup Charlie loved the visit! We will definitely be back when visiting San Diego!

  • Great location - walkable to Hillcrest, Balboa Park, Little Italy, more. Clean and plenty of room for our group of three. Nice amenities like coffee, tea, shampoo & conditioner, plenty of towels and blankets, etc. John was very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.

  • It was a real pleasure to stay at John's place - clean, excellent location, very accurate description. John and his wife were extremely helpful and very nice. Too bad our schedule was busy and we could not spend much time in the house (it has a wonderful private patio/backyard). Highly recommend!

  • We loved this quaint, vintage apartment! Location was so convenient to downtown. It was clean and the hosts were completely respectful of our privacy. We didn't get a chance to meet them in person but our party would definitely stay again in this comfortable, cute place with a wonderful back patio!!

  • John was very nice and helpful. He let us use the washing machine and put our stuff in the dryer so that we could spent the whole day exploring San Diego. He gave us a lot of tips where to go. The appartement was clean and big enough for 3 people. Would stay again!

  • The pictures depict the space perfectly. The rooms were clean and well kept for our arrival. The garden's outside were peaceful and a nice reprieve from a day of traveling.

John was gracious enough to allow a flexible check-in time for our stay which made it easy for our travel party to fly in at different times. He was easy to contact and wanted to make sure our stay was pleasant. The apartment is located in a great part of town, plenty quiet, and if you walk just a block or so from his place there's a neat suspension bridge to venture across.

I would definitely recommend staying at John's to anyone!

  • We had a fantastic stay at John's apartment.

His property is in an upmarket area of San Diego - it's a very pleasant walk to the zoo and closer by the immediate area has some beautiful and impressive homes - it's definitely worth exploring the local area by foot. As long as you're not scared of heights - the nearby Spruce Suspension Bridge is a must visit.

The property itself is a good size, full of character and includes all home comforts - including excellent, fast wi-fi. There's free off street parking, plus no restrictions on street. It was really handy to have access to excellent laundry facilities.

At the rear of the property is a wonderful shared garden - when we were visiting a hummingbird was nesting which was lovely to witness.

John and his wife were exceptionally friendly and welcoming - whilst also allowing you your privacy.

Our stay was a real highlight of our recent US holiday. I would strongly recommend you consider this property if you are needing to stay in the area.

  • Our stay at this charming studio apartment couldn't have been nicer! Our hosts added lots of little homey touches to make us feel welcome and the studio was clean. comfortable, and kitted out with everything you might need. We both loved sitting out in the little garden, with its hummingbirds and flowering plants. The location was also perfect and we really enjoyed the Hillcrest neighborhood and the proximity to Balboa Park. John and Nelly were wonderfully helpful and the only problem was that we couldn't stay longer.
