In the morning they left the quaint, little, Bed and Breakfast “Le Camere del Bocconcino” to climb the bridge to Civita, ‘The Dying Town’, and then continued on to Orvieto and Todi, both beautiful, hilltop towns nearby.
The following day they headed for Bolsena, then Montefiascone, then Marta, and then on to Tuscania and Tarquinia, two ‘Etruscan Queens’, the latter from where they would view and savour the sea.
In the evening they returned, only to descend from their cozy rooms into the delightful little restaurant “Il Bocconcino”, located in the same building on the ground floor facing the street, and of which the very, capable, vivacious, and ‘savoury’ chef is me, Gloria, the same charming hostess of “Le Camere”.
‘They’ are the guests of my little ‘abode’ constructed in the 1800’s and located in the heart of Bagnoregio. Their apartment, which is situated on the third floor, is unexpectedly bright, and is furnished in a warm and tasteful manner. There are four rooms, all of them lovely and airy, each with a private bathroom, and each with air conditioning and heating. The kitchen, a welcome addition, is next to the reading room where all guests may watch TV or use the computer, and an unexpected surprise is the sizeable indoor garden “a secret garden”
perfect for a respite.
A further delight is, as my guest, one will have exclusive access to the most magical place, high in the sky, an “Avatar”, called Sant’Antonio. Here one can listen to the wind of the hawks who soar magestically above the ‘Cathedral of Argil’ which emerges from the eroded clay furrows known as the ‘Calanchi’ distinctive to this spectacular valley and which have inspired the likes of JMW Turner.
From the fabric of this valley is woven my own personal, hospitable, home where nearby flows a picturesque stream and where a plethora of small, wild animals scurry joyously about with abandon, never ceasing to fascinate and charm small children.
The following morning they set off for a tour of ‘my valley’, and for each I have prepared my much requested picnic basket full of delectable, aromatic morsels, affectionately known as the “Cestino Proustiano”.

We had the pleasure of staying staying here August 2013. The town is very sweet, with many families and easy walking (we also happened upon an outdoor movie in the piazza!). We were easily able to walk to Civita (maybe a mile away?), our reason for visiting, and also there is an easy shuttle nearby. The house is right by the bust stop, though our Google map was wrong so we had a little trouble finding it, but it's opposite the square about 200 feet from the bus, so very easy with luggage. Gloria came to greet us, and welcomed us with a cold drink in her very lovely restaurant on the lower floor. She was very sweet! We didn't speak any Italian, so a little trouble communicating, but we got everything figured out. We are sad that we didn't get the chance to dine in her very cute restaurant! The apartment is on the third floor, and very spacious. It's an older building, and the apartment seems recently renovated with modern flooring, furnishings, and lighting. A few of the older parts could have been a tiny bit cleaner, but all of the newer fixtures were clean and nice. The air conditioning was excellent! There are AC units in the bedrooms as well as the shared area. There was nobody staying there when we did, so we had the kitchen/living room to ourselves which was great, though the walls were thin so could be a bit awkward if there were many others staying or sharing the bathroom. The bathroom has all new fixtures which was nice. The shower had the most hot water and best water pressure of any place we stayed in Europe, with closing shower doors, which was excellent! The bed was a little bit hard, but was ok, and nicely presented with a comfortable headboard. The rooftop garden looked lovely, though we didn't have time to relax there sadly. Gloria left us a wonderful breakfast in the kitchen, full of many delicious pastries, biscotti, fruit bowl, waters and juices, and cappuccinos from the machine--delicious! Also, the wifi was great with a perfect signal, and there was TV, DVD, an Wii also! Overall it was an excellent place, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!
The B&B is located in the centre of Bagnoregio, near the piazza. You shouldn't have any trouble finding it. It's quite a nice B&B with a magical roofgarden where you can relax after a day of visiting villages or relaxing at the lake. The room we stayed, had a shared kitchen and living. At the time we were the only visitors, so we had this all to ourselves, which was nice and quiet. The service was good. Gloria the cook and owner speaks a little English. Her cooking is far better though! Have dinner in the roofgarden, and absolutely definitely order the Tagliata! Best steaks in town.
