The Space

Wonderful two bedroom / one bath house on the west side of Santa Cruz. The 1,050 sq. ft. house was completely remodeled with all new appliances in early 2013. It has a large and airy kitchen, vaulted ceiling, lots of counter space and all the essential cookware to make "cooking-in" easy. Leading off the kitchen, the built-in dining area comfortably seats six. The bright and cozy living room has a Jotul gas stove, television, and DVD player - all you need to stay in and relax. The bathroom is stocked with 100% cotton towels, has an over-sized shower, skylight, and heated towel racks. Beach towels are also provided. Two bedrooms – one has a queen bed and a door off the back porch; the second has a twin bed and gets soft morning light. Both bedrooms have closets and supplied with 100% cotton sheets and cozy down comforters. The back porch is essentially another "room" with a chaise longue and papasan to hang out in. The porch overlooks a large private garden and offers the perfect setting for reading, relaxing or gathering with friends/family. The garden overflows with fruit trees, berries, vegetables, flowers, a fire pit and a perfectly situated hammock! A mudroom, which links the porch and kitchen, offers a washer and dryer.
Located less than a mile from the beach and just over a mile to the entrance of UCSC, the house is nestled in a quiet neighborhood and is very conveniently located. Within a five-minute walk, you’ll find the university bike shuttle and Zipcar stops, sundry stores, coffee shops, food markets and restaurants (both upscale and fast food); and within a 20-minute walk you will arrive downtown for movie theatres, shopping, people watching, the fabulous Museum of Art & History and more!

Please note this is a non-party, non-smoking and no pet home.

  • Nancy's home was lovely, clean, and very welcoming. We were very satisfied with our experience there, which included riding her tandem bike to the Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk. I'd recommend her westside bungalow to anyone!

  • Nancy and her friend Ulli were friendly and helpful, very responsive and easy to reach. The house is beautifully remodeled with a large kitchen and spotless bathroom. I loved the sunny back porch, the open yard, the cooing doves next door and the neighbor cats. Parking was easy and the location was convenient to shops and to West Cliff (a long walk, short bike ride) and the ocean. I would stay here again. Only downside was heat -- it was unusually cold at night and the ceramic gas heater in the living room was cosy, but the other rooms were cold, especially the bathroom. An electric blanket helped for sleeping, but space heaters or an upgrade in heating system are needed for winter nights. We bundled up and had a great time.
Enjoy this lovely, clean, convenient and friendly place to stay!

  • Truly beautiful little home with an open yet cozy feel. It was an ideal place to bring our young kids - not cluttered, and with a huge amount of backyard space. Great location and an all-around great stay!

  • Five star, hall of fame dwell magazine like accommodations. Impeccably clean, very recently, tastefully remodeled, perfectly located between beach and downtown and a couple of blocks to a supermarket, everything you need and nothing you don't, the beach cruisers can get you everywhere, no need to drive. Nancy is awesome also.

  • "Wonderful Bungalow" says it all! Just a delightful house and garden in a great neighborhood. Very convenient to the ocean, the beaches, the university, and downtown. Restaurants, cafes, bakeries, groceries, etc. are all within walking distance. A very peaceful place to relax when not out exploring Santa Cruz. Very highly recommended! Would stay here again in a heart beat!

  • If you looking for a freshly renovated beautiful house at the quiet street within ten mins drive from downtown - look no further. We loved the place: tastfully furnished with lots of space, equipped with brand new washer/dryer, pristine shower and bathroom. Tons of free apples and lemons as a gift from californian sunshine and the owners :)
    Great experience all in all.

  • This is a beautiful house! It had all the conveniences of home with a full kitchen stocked with many essentials like tea, coffee, flour, sugar, etc. The hardwood floors throughout made the house look clean and inviting. Thin curtains allowed maximum sunshine, but had shades for privacy. The backyard was lovely, scattered with fruit trees, flowers and plants, with cozy chairs on the porch. My friend and I actually live in the Bay Area, but wanted to celebrate our birthdays with a relaxing get-away to Santa Cruz. It was so very relaxing to just hang out, go out to lunch or an dinner, or go to Point Lobos to see the seals, or the aquarium in Monterey. We also made it to Carmel and visited an Italian restaurant (La Dolce Vita) that we had visited with our husbands and kids 10 years ago, and had such fun there. It used to be on San Carlos between 7th and 8th Avenue. We went there and the old guy in store below the old location told us La Dolce Vita had moved to 5th Ae between San Carlos and Dolores, and that they have the best pizza in town (for sure!). The owner was pleased that we returned and gave us free dessert that was delicious!
I can't wait to find an excuse to return to this beautiful bungalow in Santa Cruz. If you want a peaceful place to enjoy the beautiful Santa Cruz/ Carmel/ Monterey area, stay at Nancy's bungalow. It's absolutely lovely!

  • An airy, attractive place situated in a quiet spot only a short bike ride from beach attractions, bike shops, and markets. The owner's attention to details from freshly cut flowers to puzzles to entertain our son made it tough to leave after a relaxing weekend.
