ONE-TWO PEOPLE welcome for 30+ days ONLY. Fully-furnished, modest, clean, modern, one bedroom condo all to yourselves, walk to EVERYthing downtown, iron/board, linens, seasonal off-street parking. Wifi in multiple coffee houses in area.

The Space

ONE-TWO PEOPLE in fully-furnished, modest, clean, modern, downtown Charleston one-bedroom condo with elevator, outdoor pool, queen-size, temperpedic mattresses, radio/cd/cassette player, iron and board available, walking distance to EVERYwhere (ALL theaters, restaurants, museums, the Aquarium, historic homes, shopping, tour vehicles, boat tours), easy access to pedicabs and public bus service and van service to airport. NO PETS. NO SMOKING.

Downtown is a peninsula, walkable from one river to the other in under an hour; likewise from my place to the tip of the peninsula. There is bus service to beaches, but it is slow; likewise tour van service to plantations, but they are expensive and time-consuming. Off-street parking is available at my building in summer and during long holidays, when the students are away. Otherwise, there is free parking in a lot across the street depending on the time and days. There are also inexpensive garages within a block of my condo. Bikerack outside building.

Guest Access

Keys provided.

Interaction with Guests

Call (DON'T TEXT; MY TEXT IS BLOCKED) owner with ANY questions.
Owner can converse in German and Spanish.

The Neighborhood

Walk to EVERYthing. If you don't like to walk, pedicabs are available all over town, as is in-town "trolley" service (though it can be slow).
Local law dictates that taxis may NOT charge more than $5 for downtown trips (though they've been known to double the price because visitors don't know local laws).

Getting around

Public transport (including city bus and visitor center van to airport) and pedicabs are VERY accessible.
Coming from airport it is better to take a $14/person shared van (found across from the baggage claim exit). (Other transport is often double that cost or more.)

  • Christine was an excellent host, really easy going and friendly. She suggested good (local) places to go and eat. The place was as described, the building it´s being repair to look better and there´s a nice and clean swimming pool on the back. Close to everything is a good spot to stay in downtown Charleston.

  • I had a great experience staying with Christine for two nights over the Memorial Day weekend. The room was well appointed with a comfy bed, desk space, and lots of literature on Charleston to help you plan your time in the city. As the picture indicates, there was lots of natural light. Christine provided some recommendations on places to eat close by and also strongly urged me to check out some Spoleto related events since the festivities were in full swing. Ultimately, I made it to some free Piccolo Spoleto events, which were great...a choral music concert at the Catholic Cathedral and a Gullah Camp Meeting performance. Location is the heart of it all!

  • You'll be glad you chose Christine's place for your stay in Charleston. It's ultra-simple, no frills, but perfectly situated. And you get the benefit of Christine's incredibly rich knowledge of the city and its psyche. She's a world traveler and has endless insights to share.

  • Having read the description carefully before booking, I found the place to be just as described and I was therefore happy with the place, especially as it was very clean. I found Christine to be very friendly. She offered useful advice regarding places to go and showed herself to be knowledgeable about the area. My experience of Christine: I found her to be chatty but sensitive to when I did not want to talk (as she says in her description: small talk not required).

  • The room looks just like the picture, comfy bed and good closet space. Very close walking distance to downtown area.

The host however was nothing like her description. I realize sharing space requires flexibility on both sides but this was an experience. The host constantly inquired about my personal schedule (I was in town for a friends wedding). Frankly, it's none of your business what my schedule is beyond coordinating arrival/departure from your place. If you prefer to host people who go to bed at the same time you do, then include it in the descriptions. Yes, I came back late at night but was very careful to be as quiet as possible upon entering (took my shoes off when walking on tile floor, silenced my cell phone etc) I can't make the door close quietly - oil the hinges if it creaks!

Sadly the host was recently injured and has limited mobility. I offered daily to help with household tasks. At her request I mailed a letter for her, took her garbage out and emptied the recycling bin. I even offered to go grocery shopping for her!

I could go on and on but here's the point. I just wanted a clean and convenient place to stay, (thankfully it was just that) but I did not expect to be admonished for what I did on my OWN time OUTSIDE of her apt. I did not expect to charged extra for an unexpected overnight guest (a highly intoxicated bridesmaid who I was not letting drive anywhere!!!!) and yes, I mailed her a check for the "extra guest."

Nor did I expect to be spoken to as she spoke to me. I am 32 years old. I am not your granddaughter. I am paying for a place to sleep, not to hear your opinions or assumptions about me.

If you're looking to bond with your host, then this is the place. If you like your privacy - DO NOT STAY HERE

  • Christine was great! Unfortunately, I was only there for a very short stay. The space was comfortable and well located for everything I wanted to do. I hope to visit again and hear more stories of her work and travels.

  • Christine was the most gracious host. She is very considerate, and will give you great tips about the places to see and visit, she is very knowledgable about the city, having lived here for so long. I enjoyed staying with her, we had wonderful conversations.

  • Christine (email hidden). Easy to get along with, helpful, considerate, and keeps her condo in great shape. The room is perfect for a great night's sleep after being active downtown all day. The location is fantastic, close to great restaurants, bars, shops, and music venues.
