I will start off by accepting the blame for my dissatisfaction with Simon and his apartment.
I should have had a Plan B and I recommend that everyone else have one if you don't like what you get.
I should have followed my suspicions when it took Simon 3 weeks to respond to an initial email I sent him. Thereafter, I wrote that 'it looks like all of my info has been accepted' regarding renting your apartment--it took him 2 weeks to respond!!
When I phoned BnB and mentioned this, I started to notice that they were putting "please respond quickly--no one likes awkward silences" notices are their webpage.
The shower in the apartment was about 2 ft square, literally! You also had to step up to enter it. It had a flexible shower hose. Don't drop your soap. I don't care if that is the European norm, I need more room!
His girlfriend met with my traveling buddy (who arrived before me) and said that Simon would fix/replace the broken wall sconce in the living room. After waiting a full week I had to write to Simon again. I also mentioned that the kitchen also had two overhead lights that were not working. I wrote a note pointing out how dark it was in the apartment at night. We could not see the keyboard of our computer (and the wifi was terribly slow). I told Simon we needed a table lamp. I also told him I could barely read in the bedroom at night with only a small desk lamp and a small wall sconce. A floor lamp or something was needed in there.
I can't remember if I put those issues in the email or not-but I definitely left a note on the table in the living room.
Simon did respond immediately, and sent a friend over to replace the bulbs, since he himself was out of the country. What! he had to wait for me to complain after waiting a full week. He did not know all of those bulbs were out?
My faults were:
-waiting until the last minute for Simon's first two responses (I don't need coddling, but I need some sort of acknowledgement),
-not having a Plan B in place (in case I didn't like the apartment), --and letting him ignore me and my requests.
I definitely don't recommend him or his place.
We had a lovey stay in Paris. Our host was very welcoming, he met us at the gate to let us in, therefore made it very easy. And we were very tired and he was very helpful in assisting with our lugguage. The place is a good size, light and airy, easy to relax in. We felt the flat had plenty of room for 2 people, we enjoyed coming back and chilling out at the end of each day, after exploring Paris. The kitchen is big enough to actually eat in if you wish (for 2 people). There is also a larger table and more chairs in the living room. The kitchen also has a washing machine which was very handy to wash our clothes and bedding in as we stayed for nearly 4 weeks.
The flat is off the main street, and away from hustle and bustle but very close to everything you need. Such as a metro station, produce markets, supermarkets, bakeries and restaurants.
Loved the oranges and the coffee that were left for us!
We highly recommend this place especially for people who like a bit of space and don't mind walking up stairs (the stairs were fine).
Simon's apartment is in a great part of Paris and is close to restaurants, bars and supermarkets. The trudge up the steps is hard work but you only have to do that once a day. Everything you need is in Simon's apartment and he leaves some oranges to squeeze for juice.
