  • Enjoyed our time at Kim's House. Clifton Beach is the perfect location to use as a base for exploration of the Cairns region. 5 minutes away from several zoos and museums, 30 minutes away from Cairns Central, 45 minutes away from rainforest and diving opportunities. Hiring a car is a must if you really want to explore the area.

Kim is a great host. He had breakfast for us every morning. Having fresh picked fruit salad every morning was one of our favorite things about breakfast. I also liked that he introduced us to local Australian foods. Yes, we also got to try Veggiemite. Even brought home a small jar.

Kim has a beautiful home. His whole living area opens up to the outdoors to provide a great atmosphere and lots of breezes. I've never been in a home that opened up like that and I found that I really like it. You just have to be mindful of mosquitos during the rainy season. Find some nice smelling bug repellant for your skin and you'll be fine. Kim had some on hand for us to use.

I felt right at home. I made pots of coffee or tea whenever I was wanting some. I washed my laundry on several occasions. I took over the living room several times to hook up our computer to the TV. (Had to watch my team.) I even stocked the refrigerator with beer so we all could enjoy some cold refreshment.

Kim even had the opportunity to hang out with us one day. We explored an aboriginal village then went shopping. It was nice having him with us because he was able to offer insight that otherwise we would not have had. Thanks Kim!

After a hard day of exploring, it was always nice to be greeted by Kim's two dogs. We always had enough energy to play with and pet the dogs. The pups are as laid back as Kim and they enjoy everyone's company.

Had a great time. I would recommend Kim's Tropical Treat.

  • We recently stayed with Kim and his two friendly, well behaved dogs for five nights. Kim's lovely home, secluded within his beautiful evolving garden seems a long way from the world - a real feel of tropical lifestyle - and yet, only a 5 minute stroll to unspoiled Clifton Beach and along the beautiful beach to relaxed and friendly Palm Cove's restaurants and cafés; also lovely walking paths through the bush. 5 minutes the other way from Kim's is a good little shopping centre (we enjoyed the Thai restaurant there and fish and chips taken to the beach at dusk). Breakfast was always waiting for us each morning on the big verandah (the best fruit salad) for us to enjoy. Kim's friendly, relaxed manner made us feel at home immediately. Highly recommended holiday experience.

  • My friend and I spent two nights at Kim's and I must say he and his place were just perfect. He's a very polite person, ready to help (he drove us back and forth to the airport!) and breakfast was very good. I'd love to visit him again!

  • Kim was a lovely host and we were very comfortable in his beautiful house. Our toddler was enchanted by the place, especially the two friendly dogs. Thanks Kim for a wonderful and all too brief holiday.

I am essentially a gardener who loves all about any sort of gardens. I have half acre to develop over time. I write about gardens and edit the Cairns Post Garden Column (for the past 12 years). I love the tropics in the north of Australia for its easy way of living and being away from big cities. I travel a lot to China, PNG and Asia on work mostly and also work in remote Australian desert communities on horticulture production programs. I'm looking forward to a variety of guests from just about anywhere as a stimulating experience that is mutual and builds new friendships.
