  • We loved our hosts and our little tinker bell tree house accommodations. Will return!

  • I enjoyed meeting David and my room was perfect. Very neat, clean, warm and was the perfect refuge from my road trip. I felt instantly comfotable and relaxed. I was very curious to use use the lunar sauna which worked perfectly as well as using the "cool dip". David and Kumud obviously have been working towards their vision of an Eco Spa for some time and I could have asked them questions for hours about the grounds. I would love to return to see how they continue to reduce their foot print on their environment. It's obviously a precious vision that they continue to move towards together. I hope I get an opportunity to return.
    Best wishes,

  • We had a great time. You feel the power of the the owner's dreams coming true. The place is in a magic working process. Ideal place to get away from the main stream. If you look for nature and laid back ambience, the place is ideal. You may bring your own food and there is a common kitchen and a grill on the deck. Sauna is awesome. Very special!

  • My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at David and Kumuds beautiful place. It was peaceful, clean and everything in the room was so well thought out. It felt like our home away from home. David and Kumud were very personable and friendly. The land is well kept and comforting. Please if you decide to go, take time and check out the garden to. I learned so much and got to help a little. In all actuality words can't express how happy I was with my visit. My only regret is I didn't get a chance to say bye to our host or learn to juggle. Maybe next time.

  • We had a very short stay (1 night) but did have a chance to catch up with David and Kumud a little bit. They were very sweet and accommodating. The property in itself blew me away with all the work they've done and all the fun little rooms and Sauna's. Suite D was super cute and we loved the room, all except for the lack of windows with privacy. It's kind of in a high traffic area so you can't really use the windows if you want privacy. I'm pretty sure this is the only room like that so if you like windows, you might consider another one.

  • Our stay at White Lotus was incredible! The grounds are gorgeous and David was very friendly and accommodating. We had such a relaxing weekend and were so impressed with the attention to detail! We stayed in Suite D and loved the sitting area and exposed brick. The communal kitchen is big and clean- we really enjoyed using it. We definitely recommend a visit to White Lotus!

  • We have now stayed twice at the White Lotus, Suite D and I'm sure we'll be back. David & Kumud have created a perfect retreat. For us, the White Lotus is just an hour and a half from home in DC, which makes it perfect for a long weekend away from the city.

During your stay definitely check out the local wineries. Stone Mountain Winery was great in summer and the Glass House Winery was open in both August and January. The White Lotus property is great for walking about and the AT isn't far down the road if you're looking for more of a hike.

Lastly, take advantage of the sauna - it's awesome!

  • We had an excellent stay at David and Kumud's! It was the perfect relaxing getaway. We stayed in Suite D in The Castle and it was very cozy and had everything we needed. They seem to have thought of everything! The communal kitchen was well stocked and spacious. The grounds were fun to explore. It was nice to be close to hiking in Shenandoah and other entertainment in Charlottesville, VA. We will definitely be returning!

  • My girlfriend and I enjoyed a fantastic two nights in The Castle, suite D. Immediately felt comfortable in our room. We spent most of our time at wineries and hiking, which were very easy to get to. Highly recommended. I hope we can return!

David Clark, a native of central Virginia, and architect of Green Barn has worked professionally as an electronic technician, D.J, photographer, chef, yoga instructor, builder, and heavy equipment operator, but he is best known as "The Chainsaw Comedian". For twenty-five years, David entertained around the world: taking flowers from ladies’ fingers with a sixteen-foot bullwhip, shooting balloons off men's heads from a unicycle, even juggling an egg, torch, and running chainsaw! His passion for nature, architecture, and global travel (36 countries and counting) fuels his current project: a self-sustaining retreat center in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. In 1998, while traveling in Tamil Nadu, India, he met Kumud. Two years later, David invited her to co-direct a yoga-video production in Bollywood; a week into the project they decided to get married. While helping victims of the 2004 tsunami in Asia, they decided to establish International Community, an organization that creates local green businesses in order to help the underprivileged and often-forgotten people with whom we share the planet. Green Barn is a part of David's dream to share this area’s natural beauty and bring people from different walks of life together to learn, play, and grow. Kumud - I am a native of Coimbatore (India) where I spent a good part of my life growing up, schooling & teaching yoga. Stanardsville, VA although very different from my world in India, has become a wonderful haven and a place I am delighted to call home. Spent many years in customer service both here and in India, but now, mainly I spend my time teaching yoga at our church nearby. My other passions are dance, cooking and learning new languages. It has been fun exploring many different cuisines in this country which is such a melting pot of cultures. My joy of cooking has inspired me to teach some Indian vegetarian cooking classes as my schedule allows. Rural living has introduced me to cooking fresh from the garden, that I have learned to tend from David. We also love to travel, especially to warmer parts of the world over the cold winters here. We have created a urban suite with modern facilities amidst our beautiful quiet woods. We welcome you!.
