Welcome to Portland! We've got it all--world-famous restaurants, food carts, doughnut makers, breweries, coffee roasters, and wineries all within reach. If you are itching to get out of the city, we are a hop skip and a jump from the Oregon coast, the Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah falls, Mt. Hood, and wine country. Our house is about a 15-20 minute drive to the airport, and 15 minute drive to downtown Portland. We are about a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive to Reed College. This is a perfect to stay here for college visits/graduations. Our house is an easy (5-8 minute) walk to the Woodstock restaurants/bars/coffee shops, as well as the Sunday Farmer's Market.
We have a gorgeous sunny bedroom with Queen sized bed with luxury linens in our recently completed (New construction completed in December 2012!) 6 BR 3.5 BA Portland Foursquare home.
Your lovely yellow room is downstairs, adjacent to the huge (1000 square foot) family room. The room has a queen sized-complete with a feather comforter, luxury linens, and both firm and soft pillows, a large egress window, 9 foot ceilings, and large closet,You will share a full bathroom with the orther airbnb room in the basement, and there is an additional powder room on the main floor.
The family room has a 40-inch HDTV with cable, some arm chairs and Thai floor cushions, as well as a desk and table for your use. This room is perfect for those who want a lot of space and/or privacy.
The kitchen is large and sunny, with stainless appliances, granite counters, large island with prep sink and bar stools for relaxed meals. It opens to the great room, with gas fireplace and large HDTV. Off the kitchen there is a formal dining room with box beam ceilings, and small library. We have a large front porch, and covered back deck that overlooks the fenced-in backyard, perfect for relaxing or dining on warm days.
Our house is in the Woodstock neighborhood, about a block from Woodstock Boulevard, not far from Reed College, and within walking distance of many great bars, restaurants, a Safeway grocery store, and 3 parks. The closet bus stop is on 52nd and Woodstock, about 2 blocks away. There is ample (free) street parking.
Your hosts are a typical Portland couple--Brian is a Portland native, and works in the coffee industry, and will offer you your daily cup or three in a myriad of ways. Shannon is fluent in Danish and Chinese, and practices acupuncture and Chinese medicine at a busy clinic, little Kieran is 2, and likes to kick soccer balls, eat avocados and dance.
Our home is childproofed, and we have a spare pack and play and lots of books and toys to share with our youngest guests.
In addition to coffee and Chinese medicine we enjoy cooking, wine, craft beer, movies, indie music, sporting events, international travel, and always enjoy meeting new people.
Please let us know your expected arrival time so we can figure out hot to get you keys-- our schedules vary a lot from day to day.
We look forward to hosting you soon!!
Please let us know when you think you will arrive so we can figure out keys.
No smoking indoors.
Please just be mindful of banging doors when the baby is sleeping-- he takes a nap from 11-2,and goes down around 7 in the evening. However he sleeps very well-- we watch TV, throw dinner parties, live normally while he is asleep.
I found the space very welcoming and comfortable. The bathroom was also nicely appointed with amenities and towels. I didn't meet the owners but did meet their house sitter who was very nice. Bed was comfy and they had a nice selection of books/magazines.
The biggest downside is you really can hear a lot of noise upstairs, so I was woken up earlier than I would have liked (around 8 am) by movement upstairs. I would stay here again if I was getting up early or there were no guests upstairs at that time. If you're an early riser this shouldn't be an issue.
Hello, I wrote a review for Shannon a few days ago - do you have it or should I write it again? Thanks much, Lisa
Shannon and her family were very welcoming and the room was just as described. A perfect place to spend the night.
I was really happy with my stay with Shannon and Brian. It was basically what I expected and I was optimistic . The possible negatives weren't a problem for me but I will list them here for others so they can make an informed decision:
The linens smelled good
Nothing smelled bad or was gross
Shannon and Brian were helpful and accommodating
Babies are adorable
The whole thing seemed well organized- they don't seem like beginners
Good location - close to the city stuff but not so urban that I felt unsafe
Shannon was great with communication
They had a Keurig for everyone
Cons (None of which bothered me- I was happy to have these be the drawbacks that caused the price to be relatively cheap):
It's in a basement. Therefore when people walk around above you you can hear.
They wake up early so if you're a light sleeper who wants to sleep til 10 it won't happen
You possibly share the basement with other guests. You share a bathroom with them as well, so you I guess have to hope that they aren't assholes. I had no problems with my "basement mates"
It's a springy mattress
Overall I would stay there again and I do recommend.
Shannon is a delightful host with a lively household that includes rambunctious little ones. Her home is new, open and inviting and the decor is bright and tasteful. The yellow room was comfortable and there was a keurig and small fridge in the family room for my early morning, a welcome plus. I would stay with Shannon again if it were possible to stay on an upper floor with a private bath. I found the steps and lack of daylight in the lower level more of a drawback than expected, which admittedly was made worse by the gloomy weather. I didn't realize I would be sharing the bath although I should have anticipated the possibility. Midstay another couple were in the next bedroom and their noisy late night coming and going took me by surprise. They must have been careless with the shower because the bath mat was soaked in the morning. Fortunately Shannon had an extra available. I loved hearing the sounds of Shannon's little ones but others should be aware that this is an active household with an early schedule. Pros include: Responsive communication, helpful information about the area, good location, comfortable bed, nice linens, clean modern space, well appointed bath and shower, spa-like amenities, safe secure environment. Cons: Limited onstreet parking, lower level of the house lacks natural light, noise from upstairs carries below.
The yellow room was perfect for our stay-everything is clean and nicely decorated and it is easy to come and go at your own schedule. Shannon and her other house guests were all friendly and welcoming.

I'm a Sinologist and Five Element Acupuncturist in private practice in Portland Oregon, and am married to Brian, who does consulting for local coffee and beer companies. We have a gorgeous son, Kieran, born in October of 2011. We are avid travelers, and love to meet new people.
Brian is a coffee snob, and loves cooking and wine tasting. Kieran is obsessed with trains and enjoys music, books, swimming, and eating.
My favorite travel destination is China, and Thailand is a close second. Brian prefers Bali, and would love to eat his way through Italy and France.
