The Space

Welcome to Portland! We've got it all--world-famous restaurants, food carts, doughnut makers, breweries, coffee roasters, and wineries all within reach. If you are itching to get out of the city, we are a hop skip and a jump from the Oregon coast, the Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah falls, Mt. Hood, and wine country. Our house is about a 15-20 minute drive to the airport, and 15 minute drive to downtown Portland. We are about a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive to Reed College. This is a perfect to stay here for college visits/graduations. Our house is an easy (5-8 minute) walk to the Woodstock restaurants/bars/coffee shops, as well as the Sunday Farmer's Market.

We have a gorgeous sunny bedroom with Queen sized bed with luxury linens in our recently completed (New construction completed in December 2012!) 6 BR 3.5 BA Portland Foursquare home.

Your lovely yellow room is downstairs, adjacent to the huge (1000 square foot) family room. The room has a queen sized-complete with a feather comforter, luxury linens, and both firm and soft pillows, a large egress window, 9 foot ceilings, and large closet,You will share a full bathroom with the orther airbnb room in the basement, and there is an additional powder room on the main floor.

The family room has a 40-inch HDTV with cable, some arm chairs and Thai floor cushions, as well as a desk and table for your use. This room is perfect for those who want a lot of space and/or privacy.

The kitchen is large and sunny, with stainless appliances, granite counters, large island with prep sink and bar stools for relaxed meals. It opens to the great room, with gas fireplace and large HDTV. Off the kitchen there is a formal dining room with box beam ceilings, and small library. We have a large front porch, and covered back deck that overlooks the fenced-in backyard, perfect for relaxing or dining on warm days.

Our house is in the Woodstock neighborhood, about a block from Woodstock Boulevard, not far from Reed College, and within walking distance of many great bars, restaurants, a Safeway grocery store, and 3 parks. The closet bus stop is on 52nd and Woodstock, about 2 blocks away. There is ample (free) street parking.

Your hosts are a typical Portland couple--Brian is a Portland native, and works in the coffee industry, and will offer you your daily cup or three in a myriad of ways. Shannon is fluent in Danish and Chinese, and practices acupuncture and Chinese medicine at a busy clinic, little Kieran is 2, and likes to kick soccer balls, eat avocados and dance.

Our home is childproofed, and we have a spare pack and play and lots of books and toys to share with our youngest guests.

In addition to coffee and Chinese medicine we enjoy cooking, wine, craft beer, movies, indie music, sporting events, international travel, and always enjoy meeting new people.

Please let us know your expected arrival time so we can figure out hot to get you keys-- our schedules vary a lot from day to day.

We look forward to hosting you soon!!

  • Shannon and Brian were the best airbnb hosts we have had till date. And the best treat - the lovely grandma and their two adorable kids:-)

We were treated like family members and had access to all the amenities in their house. They have huge hearts and lots of love to give! The house is gorgeous in a peaceful and quiet neighborhood.

Highly recommend the place to anyone looking for an authentic portland experience, especially families with kids...

  • Brian and Shannon were wonderful hosts. The rooms are exactly as pictured. Very, very clean, beautiful bathroom. We felt extremely comfortable coming and going. Lovely family.

  • The home is beautiful and the accommodations were great. It is a new home that fits nicely in the Woodstock area. There are plenty of walkable places to eat and shop. It was private, clean and just as described. The rooms in the very nicely finished basement are bright, airy and relaxing. There are plenty of fresh towels and the bathroom is new and roomy even if it is shared. There is plenty of space to stretch out, work, relax, watch television from comfortable couches and chairs and a private door to the outside. Shannon, Brian and their family are all very friendly and make you feel at home. There hospitality is greatly appreciated!

  • Great experience and home! The area was spacious and the side door was key! It made it super convenient to come in and out of the house without feeling like we were disturbing the hosts. Extremely clean and we had the entire basement during our visit which was nice when we were tired and just wanted to watch TV. Highly recommend this house when visiting!

  • So great. Great neighbourhood. Great hospitality. Didn't get to visit too much because we were out and about but both hosts were super gracious and accommodating when we did visit. Nice side door entrance so we came and went as we pleased! Felt great here.

  • Great house, great hosts in a great neighborhood near Reed College! Seriously close, like a 15 minute casual stroll.
The bathroom was GREAT, not only lovely but super (email hidden) me bathrooms are a smidge more important than bedrooms. And speaking of bedrooms, super comfy bed, VERY clean and tidy and quiet.
Would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends visiting the area.

  • My wife and I spent the week in Portland and absolutely loved it. The location of this house was perfect. Everything was clean, bright, and inviting. By the end of the week we almost forgot that this wasn't our home. Our hosts were amazing and were willing to help out in any way. The room is in the basement and there is a side door so you don't have to see anyone when you come back to the room if you don't want to. There were a few nights when we came in late and didn't have to worry about waking anyone up upstairs. Their basement also doubles as a game room, mainly for younger kids "So much room for activities!". There is a tv with a Super Nintendo and any game you can imagine! The worse part was that every morning their kid would run back and forth upstairs making a fairly loud thud with every step. Luckily we were already awake and it didn't really bother us. We spend most of our time exploring Portland but we knew that anytime we wanted to come back or even hang out with our hosts it was always welcome. Portland was awesome and we have considered moving up there. We will most likely be staying in this room again if we start to look for a place.

  • Easy going newer place to stay, great space, wonderful people in a terrific hood! We'll be staying with them next time in portland. Great shower too! It seams like it might be too far out but the area is loaded with great things to do.. with no traffic you'll be in downtown PDX in 18 minutes driving.

  • I loved my stay in the yellow room! Even though there were other guests starting next door, I still felt like I had all the privacy I needed. I never met Shannon, but Brian was incredibly nice and helpful and if I didn't have a busy day, I would have loved to spend more time talking to him. I hope to return to the yellow room some day!!

  • Shannon and Brian were fantastic hosts and really made our stay in Portland with great additional tips and suggestions. The room and their home is even more lovely in reality! The neighbourhood is very pretty with plenty of good restaurants in the surrounding area ( Shannon also provides a long list of recommended eateries). It is about 15 minutes drive into the centre. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks for an awesome time!

About
I'm a Sinologist and Five Element Acupuncturist in private practice in Portland Oregon, and am married to Brian, who does consulting for local coffee and beer companies. We have a gorgeous son, Kieran, born in October of 2011. We are avid travelers, and love to meet new people. Brian is a coffee snob, and loves cooking and wine tasting. Kieran is obsessed with trains and enjoys music, books, swimming, and eating. My favorite travel destination is China, and Thailand is a close second. Brian prefers Bali, and would love to eat his way through Italy and France.
