The space

Located in the popular Dales village of Harmby, just one mile from Leyburn is 2, Rose Cottages. This charming country cottage is oozing with character, and would make the ideal base for a holiday in the Yorkshire Dales at any time of year.

You are greeted by a welcoming rustic pine kitchen creating a homely friendly feel, retaining many interesting original features such as an alcove which was formerly a bread oven. The dining table and butler’s bench finish off the look and offer a true ‘country cottage’ feel. The charm of this cottage does not end in the kitchen. The lounge boasts an original ‘Range’ cleverly incorporating a wood burning stove to keep you cosy on those cooler winter evenings after an invigorating walk on the fells, before retiring to the four poster bed in the master bedroom.

Guest access

The property is rented on a sole use basis, you will not be sharing the property with anyone else.

Interaction with guests

I will not be present but can answer questions via phone or email

Other things to note

Mobile phone reception is patchy at the cottage and generally across the Yorkshire Dales! It's good for 'disconnecting' but if you do need to make a call then walk for a minute to the top of the hill and you should get a signal. In nearby leyburn there is free wifi accessible to the public.

Dogs are welcome but can you please keep them downstairs and off the beds. Some guests are allergic to dogs and therefore please can you keep out of the bedrooms.

I don't charge a cleaning fee to keep costs as low as possible. It would be very much appreciated if you are able to strip any beds used and placed used sheets etc on the corner of the bed.

If you can leave the house as clean as possible then it will help me to continue not to charge a cleaning fee...Your help is most appreciated.

There is also a complimentary basket of firewood provide for the log burner. If you require more I ask that you pay £4 for another basket full. There is a honesty box for this purpose

What a lovely cottage! Sitting on the hillside in the village of Harmby, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, it has lovely views over the Ure Valley to Middleham. We found so much to do and see within a short drive, and great country walks around the village. First, the cottage itself. It's small - a kitchen and living room on the ground floor, and two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. We found it comfortable for the two of us and our two dogs (yes, pets allowed). Temperature was pleasant both during the day and in the evenings, and I can see it being a cosy base in the winter too, with night-storage heaters and a wood burner in the living room. Hot water for bathing and washing up never ran short, and there is a manual boost to top up the overnight heating. The beds upstairs are comfortable, the rooms have tons of storage space, and there's a four-poster in the master bedroom! The cottage is well-stocked: Deb forgot her hair dryer, and was happy to find one in a bedroom drawer. The kitchen has everything you'll need for doing your own cooking, with an ironing board and other ustensils under the stairs. The owner has left a good range of maps and walking guides for the local area. Everyone in the village is happy to stop and chat, and we found a number of good walks in the surrounding countryside. The phone signal, as you would expect, can be weak - best place we found was (conveniently) at The Pheasant Inn, a couple of hundred yards away at the top of the hill...which just so happens they sell some good local pints! Leyburn is a mile or so away, and can be walked or driven to easily. The local Co-op is surprisingly big, and the fish and chip shop next door is fantastic! Some good pubs selling food in the town too, and all amenities. Middleham over the river has its castle, well worth a trip for the views, and the Gallops up on the High Moor if you fancy watching the racehorses training, walking the dogs or just taking a stroll relaxing. Plenty of parking up there if you don't fancy the walk from town. Jervaulx Abbey is not far away on the other side of Middleham too. Further afield, Hawes, Richmond and the waterfalls at Aysgarth are all worth a visit, and there's plenty of good walking to be had on the higher fells. The cottage is a fantastic base for exploring the area, the village is lovely and peaceful, and I'm sure we'll be back. Thanks for everything! Derek and Deb, Poppy and CHarlie

This cottage is cosy and comfortable and set in a very quiet village with walks around it and so many places to visit. The proximity of Leyburn with its shops made it easy to be both self catering and eat out Be of food. warned the Yorkshire size of portions in pub grub is huge, need to exercise to balance out good taste.
