Wonderful six bedroom compound with panoramic views of the water. Room for community and room for privacy. Each room is an individual building with its own bathroom. (website hidden)_b(phone number hidden)
Located in Aquinnah, at the outer tip of Martha's Vineyard, with access to Philbin Beach, is a large, unique, artistic and fun property, made for large groups of people or good for two simply utilizing the main house. (inquire as to weekly prices which are less for just 2 in main building only.)
This multi person, compound, with a panoramic water view, called the Japanese Ponderosa, is perfect for reunions or even weddings. You can have a large group, but each couple can have their own building or large room and bath.(during colder months the master bedroom and a separate building is heated and the bunk room has an electric heater. This means it is comfortable for one or two couples all winter in the fully heated spaces. Five buildings and one main gathering spot.
Children in particular love this property as it conjures up a Swiss Family Robinson feeling with the large posts..and bridges from building to building. Much of the Douglas Fir is from a railroad tressel bridge in Utah. The railings are bamboo and the kitchen cabinets are from old beer barrels. The artistic features are everywhere and you will love it with the panoramic views of the ocean. The kitchen is on the top floor, so social meals have the best view.
Almost each room has its own bathroom and shower or tub, often in the room. Nothing traditional here, but glass and views and interesting things to see everywhere. The master bedroom, which is the only bedroom in the main building, is large, with huge windows, a kiva and a cobalt blue tub right beside it for firelight bathing! Another bedroom is in a building composed entirely of huge factory windows from the Arrow Shirt Factory in Troy New York.
There is a queen bed there as well as a loft with a single and a sitting area.
The pictures show and describe each of the other buildings. One has a garage door for ventilation! (with a screen) While this is an upside down home with the kitchen above , once you are up there, there is access to a bedroom and bath on that floor for those challenged by frequent stair use.
A fully functional kitchen and gas powered grill on the side porch as well as a fireplace in the adjacent living area...make this a perfect hangout for large gatherings aorund the dinner table and a nice flow out onto the large porch with a view of the ocean. Then step out he side porch and go up even higher to the look-out deck and have cocktails and watch the sun set. A 15 minute walk down a dirt road to one beach, and a ten minute drive to the most beautiful private beach on the Island with the use of a sticker with your lease.
There are fun shops at the famous cliffs, perfect biking areas, a small bakery right by the road, and two wonderful restaurants right in Aquinnah. Chilmark is equally close and has many more choices as well as the fish stores and farmers markets.
nearby beaches, hourly bus, extremely private bedrooms, great views and privacy.

5 Stars! Karen's home and service during our three day stay in Aquinnah was just spectacular. The property itself is quite impressive, with it's unique architecture and terrific views. On top of that, Karen did a great job of preparing us for our first trip to Martha's Vineyard with tips and helpful instructions which ensured everything went off without a hitch. I would 100% recommend this house to anyone looking to have an authentic experience in MV. Totally exceeded expectations.
I can't say enough about both Karen and her Aquinnah property.
Karen was as helpful and gracious a host as I could have hoped for, from my opening inquiries, during the booking process and through my stay. The itself property is truly a special place. I booked the entire house for a large group, each of whom was blown away upon arrival and, a week later, is still talking about how amazing the home is.
The house has a ton of space and every amenity you'd want. It also has a lot of features that you can't get anywhere else, including some of the coolest bedrooms/living spaces and most breathtaking views I've ever seen.
I've already told family and friends that they should consider this incredible spot when planning their next trip. For anyone looking to vacation on the Vineyard, I highly recommend reaching out to Karen.
I organized a weekend stay at Karen's house in Aquinnah for a group of close friends. We had such a great time, and the house was perfect – everything you need with a big communal kitchen, grill, lots of outdoor space, outdoor shower and great charm. No issues, it was an ideal setup. Karen was extremely responsive and helpful in the planning!
A truly precious and unique ("Santa Fe meets Kyoto") home in a secluded part of Martha's Vineyard. If you have a large group of friends or family to gather, this home has much to offer. We had three couples and seven kids aged 4 to 16, and everyone enjoyed the property. Karen was a great host, we had no problems whatsoever. We would happily go back! The only advice I would offer to other prospective guests is to be cautious of the ferry schedules -- don't book the house without first ensuring availability on the ferry.
The reservation was canceled 5 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
While we only stayed for a weekend, it was amazing. This house is extremely unique, and full of character. This house is the perfect place to stay with a large family or group of friends who want to experience Martha's Vineyard. The bedrooms are all different, but if you're willing to have a little variability, it's not a problem at all. The grounds are beautiful, and the views are spectacular. We had a wonderful time, and would recommend it to anyone. On top of that, Karen was very responsive and was a great host.

As a couple we love to travel, meet new people and explore new ideas. We would be called early adopters. We spent the first years of our married life renovating and creating spaces..love to collect architectural salvage and make it into something.
Now we are exploring innovative ways to have social impact.
While network seems a trivial term, we not only know a lot of people but love to connect them in useful ways. We have found this site an unexpected way to discover like minded people and in some cases, have become friends.
