Our room is sunny and cozy with a double (54") bed that serves as a couch during the day. There is a 1/2 bath right there and access to a full bath. Hang out in our cool living, dining and kitchen loft or walk downtown, just two blocks away.
We usually sleep here, but this bedroom is available in the summer season. Use our bath in the afternoon or evenings
While the room is small, our loft is a grand place, full of sunlight, plants and art. Our loft is the west end of the gym of the old Charlottetown YMCA that we developed into condos. We liked the 20' ceilings and the hardwood floors. The old bowling alleys that used to be in the basement are now table tops and stair treads.
We rent for a minimum of 3 days and we include breakfast as well as dinner on arrival. More meals can be arranged or cook your own. We are foodies, and our son is a chef, so we have a well equipped kitchen, fun to hang out in.
We can lend you a bike if needed, and if it is a good beach day you may be able to get a ride there as well.
While we have no TV, we do have a DVD projector and screen as well as a CD player, WI-FI internet and lots of books. There is a 1/2 bath right next to your room and you have access to a full bath during the day.
During the high season, we rent the entire space, guest and master bedroom for $1600 per week.
Use the living/dining/kitchen during day and evening. Full bath during afternoon. Gym and laundry in the building. We have a commercial espresso machine for coffee affectationados..
Interaction with Guests
We are usually ready to sit down to chat over a cup of coffee or to share a meal or a drink. Occasionally there are events such as dinner parties or book launches to which the guest may be invited. We always like to share our knowledge of the Island. We prepare a nice welcome meal on the night of your arrival.
To one side we have an old Victorian neighborhood with stately homes and huge trees. To the other side is the downtown with shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment. City park and the marina/waterfront is 15 minutes walk away. We feel safe walking around any time of day and night.
We are on a bus stop and the central connecting point is 10 min walk away. Cabs are inexpensive. There is a bike available if requested.
Our balcony bedroom overlooks the living quarters, so we typically expect our guest to stay in their room and bathroom area between midnight and 8am. Breakfast would typically be around 9 and we have a commercial espresso machine! We do not wear shoes inside and please smoke outside.
Ole and Karen were warm, generous and thoughtful hosts during our 4-night stay. They gave us great suggestions on local eats and destinations, hosted a welcome dinner for us (despite their busy weekend schedule), and generally made us feel warmly at home in their awe-inspiring living space (a leafy cathedral of design!). They are also engaging conversationalists with impressive stories to tell. In terms of practical needs, we also appreciated 1) having our own entrance to the room, 2) having laundry facility in the building, and 3) being within easy walking distance to the heart of downtown. We are truly grateful for the experience.
Ole and Karen were wonderful hosts, from physical comforts to making my trip more memorable.
On the physical side: We had a minor snafu over dates but there was no problem adjusting to it. I was served a wonderful hot breakfast every morning with good company and freshly made lattes. The common space is even more beautiful than it looks in the pictures, while the Airbnb space was private and convenient with essentially a private entrance. The shower was luxurious and beautiful, the bedroom was small but comfortable - and I really wasn't there to spend time in the room anyway! Ample closet space and good broadband connection rounded out the amenities.
In terms of making my trip more memorable, they spent a lot of time showing me where to go, finding deals for me on the internet, and making excellent recommendations for dinner and theater. They made me feel like a part of the family, even introducing me to some of their friends and bringing me along to a dining event, which I appreciate so very much (I was traveling alone).
I can't recommend Ole and Karen highly enough. This was my first Airbnb experience and I had no idea what to expect... and now I'm not sure anyone else will be able to live up to these standards!
Ole and Karen are wonderful hosts. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. They were great with suggestions and the dinner and breakfasts supplied were great. Their loft is beautiful and charming. The room is clean and comfortable and has it's own private bath including a wonderful modern shower. The location couldn't be better. We would love to stay with them again someday.
I loved it! Ole and Karen were fantastic! I would absolutely recommend their place (and them as people) to anyone and everyone... Can't wait to return.
Ole and Karen are wonderful, considerate and engaging hosts. They went out of their way to make me feel at home and welcome. As someone who spent his days putting 1000km driving around the island, it was always a pleasure to return to this cozy home.
I am an architect with special interest in sustainable buildings. I am also interested in movies, books, dancing, music, cityscapes, environment, politics and cooking and eating good food in good company. I was born in Denmark, got my degree at MIT and have been living on PEI since 1977. My latest hobby is coffee. I just installed a commercial espresso machine and I am practicing making the perfect cappuccino. My wife Karen is a landscape architect and in addition to sharing my interests she has a passion for travelling, the PEI beaches and landscapes. Karen also speaks french. We have hosted with (website hidden) for years and have also hosted "salon style" numerous art shows, fundraisers, dances, dinners, book openings, CD launches and even 2 weddings and one memorial.
