Classic room with queen bed, private patio, bathroom with shower, and Netflix on the tv. Must love dogs! Currently only accepting couples. Access to full kitchen, sitting room, pool, and more cozy patios.
This private bedroom in a shared home is a great place to crash after an adventurous day on the Big Island!
The newly remodeled bathroom is in the bedroom and has a tile shower. We provide towels, soap and shampoo, bed sheets, and other amenities.
There is a queen bed and large closet. The room opens to a private patio attached to the room, perfect for smoking and relaxing.
The kitchen is shared, but large and enjoyable. Coffee in the mornings, a fridge for leftovers, and any dishes needed.
The pool is a beautiful place to relax! An outdoor table, lounge chairs, and beach towels.
The surf shack has many beach toys available to you! Chairs, surf boards, umbrellas, snorkel gear, lots of things to help enjoy!
This is the only room for rent in our main house. We will be interacting and working together to enjoy every day. We are fishermen, so many days we will leave the house early, and as quietly as possible. Otherwise, we are open to dinner together, giving advise on places to visit, or staying out of the way!
Our bulldog is very friendly and curious! We ask that you keep the bedroom door closed to minimize her "inspections". She is part of the family and welcome to sit on our couches and beds, so please be aware if this makes you uncomfortable. There will be times that you are home alone with her. She is very friendly and loves attention, so you must be comfortable with dogs.
We are in a perfect location for travel and moderate weather.
Just 15 minutes south of downtown Kona, this is a perfect jump off point for exploring many parts of the island. We are 30 minutes south of the airport.
Located at 1000ft above sea level, we have warm sunny afternoons and cool evenings and mornings. There is no air conditioning.
You will need a car.
This room is comfortable for sleeping, but not an ideal place to spend the days of your vacation. This space is suited to people who spend their days adventuring.
Most of the house and yard are shared spaces. The private areas are the main bedroom and the Ohana which will be rented to other guests. The pool area connects to the Ohana, so please be aware and respectful of other guests.
Check in may be later in the afternoon or early evening. We keep the house locked and must be there for check in. If we are fishing, then we must plan the later check In. If we are not fishing, than it is likely that we can plan for earlier, but these details will be decided close to the arrival date.
Interaction with Guests
There are plenty of areas to this home, so it will be easy to get your own private areas when wanted. We fish often, so we may be gone long days. Otherwise, we are happy to hang out, do dinners together, and work together to share spaces.
We live on the north side of the Walua Trail, a 3 mile residential road that doubles as a fitness track. A slight incline and patches of shade make our road a popular area for walking, running, and biking. With occasional views of the ocean and a close look at the unique homes on the road, the trail is always interesting (oh yea, plenty animals like turkeys, chickens, dogs in yards and on walks, many others). With no sidewalks and some blind turns, it is important to pay attention, but this is also what makes our community so strong!
You will need a car.
Other Things to Note
We are only accepting couples at this time.
Must be comfortable with dogs.
Our nightly rate includes the steep Hawaii taxes, 4.166% GE and 9.25% Transient Accommodation Tax. Sorry to pass that on, but at least it is included and not added at the end! All taxes, fees, and costs are included in the price quoted to you by air BnB.
Please respect our home.

We didn't want to leave!
6 nights are just enough time at Shawn and Mollys place. To get to use all the beach toys, enjoy the pool, relax at the lanai, cook yourself a nice dinner, play with Payton ( you should like dogs or at least don't mind them ), have a chat with Molly ( you will like her! Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Shawn )... and try to see all of the Kona sights!?
We could have staied much longer. Thank you!!
Spectacular house - architectural jewel. Very friendly host with a cute dog. We felt like local Hawaiians:)
EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!
+ molly was very welcoming&helpful!
+good location to explore the kona side of the island, shoppingcenter only 2 mins by car away
+comfy bed&nice clean room & ensuite bathroom (clean) for enough private space
+extras: netflix-tv in the room, did borrow beach chairs etc..,did our laundry, molly gave us a 25%off voucher for a boat&snorkel tour, there was banana bread&fruits for us in the fridge when we arrived :)
would definitely stay again and recommend to stay!!
Shawn and Molly's huge and interesting house is a good location for exploring the Kona area. Our room and bathroom were very clean and well set up although the proximity to the busy highway below meant we needed earplugs at night. ( We live in a quiet place so we are not used to that kind of noise.)
Molly (Shawn was away unfortunately ) was welcoming and easy going about our using her kitchen, living area to check emails, etc as the bedroom wifi connection is poor. She is very generous with all of their beach and snorkelling stuff. She is a good resource for information about local restaurants and other places of interest. Peyton the resident bulldog is hilarious.
Shawn & Molly thanks for the great accommodations, the room was very clean and a real bed !and love cooking in your great kitchen. And love the mascot Peyton our favorite bulldog of Kona .i can add that the location was primo for going north or south Kona ,we enjoyed our stay there and would highly recommend this room for a couple:)

Molly and Shawn's place was delightful, perfectly located, and a great place to stay if you're looking for a warm place to sleep after a day full of adventures! Their fruit trees, adorable bulldog, large kitchen and surf shack were great additions to our stay.
This place was perfect! The house is so comfortable and spacious, it is amazing! The location is convenient and very easy to find. Molly made me feel comfortable the minute I arrived. It was a great experience and I can't wait to visit the Big Island again. I would definitely book this property again and would refer to others. Thank you so much Molly and Shawn!

And Molly too! We are a young couple married for many years. We decided not to let kids cramp our style, so we got a bulldog instead. Since moving to the Big Island, we do not vacation much, so we love to host parties, visitors, and friends.
We fish. The reason we moved to Kona is the world class fishing. It paid off quickly in August of 2012 when we caught the fish of a lifetime, a blue marlin over 1,000 pounds, known as a Grander. Not every fish needs to be the biggest though; we catch wahoo, mahi mahi, tuna, and other delicious types of fish as well. We would love to take more people fishing to truly experience the Big Island.
When not fishing, we are either golfing, cooking our fresh catch, or creating delicious cocktails with local fruit juices. We enjoy sharing our time and experiences, especially with people who have a limited time to spend here.
