About this listing
The Palacio de las Especias recovers the splendour of a building erected in the 19th century. The building was originally owned by the Echerid family, who were spice merchants but, unfortunately, the years and neglect had taken their toll. Today, respecting the original building, but adapting it to provide the comfort that an establishment of this nature deserves, it opens its rooms from within the heart of the Medina, in order to provide its visitors with the enjoyment and relaxation they are looking for. The décor of its rooms, the coolness of its patios, the murmuring of its fountains and the peaceful evenings on the terrace mean that resting inside its rooms becomes the happy ending to a perfect day.
Specially created for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, the three lounges in the riad are distributed between the two floors: on the ground floor with its large windows opening onto both patios is the great winter lounge, warm and cosy during the winter months, yet cool and airy during the summer, with its library corner next to the chimney and a spacious dining area, where dinner will be a new experience. Opening onto the central patio is the summer lounge, with comfortable loungers surrounding the pool, offering you the chance to relax in the pleasant atmosphere. Lastly, the arched lounge on the top floor, with its arches also opening onto the central patio, invites you to chat with friends while you enjoy drinking tea.
The riad is laid out around two cool patios, with the different parts of the house leading on to them: on one side, the enchanting reception patio, where guests are welcomed by the musical sound of water from the fountain and, on the other side, the heart of the riad, the great central patio, with the shade of its plants falling over the pool that combine together to create the perfect spot for a special breakfast.
The terrace with its pergolas, loungers and specially designed restful areas allows guests to contemplate the views of the ancient Medina at the magical moment of dusk, to watch the swallows gracefully swooping over the city, while the muezzin calls the people to their final prayer of the day.
In the same way the gates of Marrakech are open to visitors, inviting them to share the secrets they hide; the rooms, that have the same names as seven of the gates, also let their guests discover their treasures: the spaciousness, the peaceful corners, the luxurious bathrooms and the cosy beds are the perfect way to relax, rest and enjoy a good night’s sleep after a long day…
