Up to 14 day stays are OK. This rustic cottage, circa 1850, has antique charm, yet modern comforts. In addition to a living and dining room, there is a vintage kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, laundry facilities. Very tall people will have to duck under door ways. Not suitable for children under 12. WiFi and a smart TV. Kitchen ceiling is 6'3.5". An exterior camera is installed to observe wild life passing through the yard. A switch in the laundry turns it off.

The space
Chaplin is located between Boston (2 hours) and New York City (3 hours) in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut. It is 15 minutes from the University of Connecticut and downtown Storrs, 15 minutes from Eastern Connecticut State University and five minutes from 24-hour shopping. The Pomfret School is just a short drive away. Pets are NOT permitted as some or our guests are allergic.

Guest access
There is a loft area in the house with wicked stairs, so we've blocked it off for safety reasons. The stairs remain but are blocked.

Other things to note
We expect people to clean up after themselves in the kitchen and bathroom. 
Please respect the furnishings and let us know if anything needs attention. We expect guests to leave the cottage as clean as they found it when they arrived. We are 83 and do our best to provide a convenient and welcome home. Check out includes putting used towels and sheets thru washer and into dryer. We sanitize with Chlorox wipes but would rather not have to clean cooking messes, etc. You are welcome to use any supplies left by others in the cabinets. Ask to borrow cake pans and the like. We live just across the street.

Neighborhood highlights

The quiet little village of Chaplin is a great place to unwind away from traffic and the pressures of daily life. Most of the homes on Chaplin Street were built between 1820 and 1840, after Benjamin Chaplin left money in his estate to build the church, completed in 1815.
Enjoy the serenity of Chaplin’s National Register Historic District. The village street is lined with fine architectural examples of early 19th century homes. Even the simple structures, such as the Clark Cottage, remain intact. Aside from a paved street and utilities, the village looks nearly the same as it did when it was built.

My husband Warren and I are active retirees. Warren keeps busy running on the trails in the neighborhood, as well as volunteering at the local land trust. I maintain a weaving studio, teaching both weaving and spinning as well as producing handwoven textiles for sale. We love meeting new people and really love sharing this very special historic village neighborhood of Chaplin. It is quintessential New England midway between NYC and Boston.
