About this listing
Welcome to our home! We are renting out a nice sized room in our back house. It has been newly remodeled and is a great place to stay while enjoying the beach and sun in Santa Cruz! We are just 10 minutes walking distance from Seabright Beach, the Harbor, the Boardwalk, Downtown, the Wharf, the San Lorenzo River, Twin Lakes Beach, Whole Foods, Staff of life, the Buttery (Only the best bakery in town) and numerous great restaurants, bars, Coffee Shops just 5 minutes by feet or 2 minutes by bike.
The room has it's own private entry separate from the main house, a great queen sized bed, Down pillows and comforter, and deluxe 500 thread count 100% cotton sheets. There is brand new furniture, a great sized closet with hangers for all of your clothes, brand new bamboo floors, a large mirror, a space heater for those cold nights, and we just added a new small fridge and microwave for you to chill some wine and store your leftovers. There is wi-fi access all over the house, so you can watch Netflix at night in the privacy of your room. Please note that we do not have a TV in the room, and currently we do not offer coffee, there is a great Coffee Shop just around the corner called Java Junction.
The bathroom is located in the main house, and will be primarily dedicated to the renters from Airbnb. It is vintage and has a great claw-foot bathtub, so if you like a good soak, this is opportunity to relax and enjoy! We get great water pressure, we have a soft water system in the house, and filtered water on tap in the kitchen for you to use, as we provide a pitcher and cups for your convenience.
Remember when you are renting with Airbnb, you are entering into our home, this is not a hotel service, so please be respectful of our space. There are no hotels in Seabright, so our place is the closest guesthouse to the beach other than the various Airbnb's in the neighborhood. Santa Cruz is a vacation town, and our varied prices reflect the location, the time of year, and the uniqueness of the space we offer. Thank you for looking at our Cayuga Cottage, we are really excited to welcome new visitors!
Our guests have full access to their private detached room, with a private entry and a back entryway from the driveway. They also essentially have the bathroom pictured to themselves, as our room is upstairs and we generally use our own bathroom up there. In the bathroom cabinet there is one shelf that has a hair dryer on it, anything on that shelf can be used by our guests. I do provide some soaps and shampoos located in the cabinet in the bathroom. There is also plenty of toilet paper in that cabinet, and if toilet paper ever runs out feel free to grab another roll in there.
There is also the outdoor dining zone on the patio, a yoga room, and a living room, that we do allow access too, but remember this is our home, and we do enjoy being in it, so these amenities might not be fully accessible at all times. It depends on how much we happen to be home that weekend.
We have a washer and dryer, which can also be available for use if needed.
Interaction with Guests
Sometimes we are around and have a lot of encounters with our guests, and sometimes our guests come and go and we never saw them! We let our guests arrive at their own convenience (we provide a lock-box with a key) as with our experience this seems to work out best for everyone. Whenever we do see our guests we are open to chat and answer any questions if needed. I even offered private surfing lessons to a guest for the few weeks that she stayed with us, and she loved it! (you can read here review Esther Dobler)
We live in my favorite neighborhood in Santa Cruz! We are just walking minutes from the beach, and the harbor, cute restaurants coffee shops, and even a climbing gym! We are in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Santa Cruz, and just walking around and looking at all of the cute colorful Beach Cottages is like going back in time. Most of these homes including our own wer build at the turn of the 20th century, some even before, so it's quite a treat to be around all of this beauty and history just minutes from the ocean.
Some great places to eat near by: The Seabright Brewery, The Seabreeze Cafe, Java Junction, the Crepe Place, the Crow's Nest, Betty's Burgers, La Posta, Engfer Pizza Works, Lilian's, Charlie Hong-Kong's, The Bagelry, Thai House, Laili, Harbor Cafe, Tramonti, The Harbor Cafe, Cafe Brazil, and many more to choose from. We are also in close proximity to the best Natural Food stores in town, Staff of Life, Shopper's Corner, and Whole Foods.
And if you feel like renting a bike while your here just stop by Bicycle Trip right there on Soquel.
Walking is great, bike riding, and buses are all really accessible. You can walk to a great coffee shop in 5 minutes, and to numerous restaurants, or hop on the bus to another part of town on Seabright Ave, or Soquel Ave. There are bike shops close by where you could rent bikes if needed for an adventure.
Other Things to Note
You will truly love staying in the perfect neighborhood in Santa Cruz, where you are close enough to the beach that you can hear the waves crashing at night, but far enough away that the barking of the sea-lions won't get on your nerves ;) Our home is old, so please excuse the exterior appearance as we are awaiting a new paint job, and the plants in front are kind of drab at the moment.
I would expect my guests to be respectful and to clean up after themselves, but don't feel like you have to make up the bed after you leave. Please be aware of the white dresser and nightstand and not to put for example a hot iron on it directly (as this will damage and discolor the finish), just place a towel underneath. We would expect out guests to not be incredibly noisy at night, and to have a great time! We do not allow kitchen use for guests, although you may fill your pitcher with fresh filtered water, and grab ice cubes from the freezer. We do not want anyone to go upstairs in the main house as that is our private room, but most of the rest of the house you can chill out in within limits. The back gate is a little noisy when you open and close it, but this doesn't bother us, even if you arrive at 1am! We have done a lot of interior remodeling and we are proud to share and reap the benefits of our hard work with our guest, Enjoy!
The host was out of town while we were there, but they emailed us and informed us ahead of time and gave us the info for their house sitter. He was there on arrival, very friendly and gave us a tour. The neighborhood was quiet and very close to the boardwalk, downtown etc. As it was in the description, the bathroom is in the main house, I never considered what that meant. It was nice to have a private room, but kinda a pain to go into the house every time the facilities were needed. But again, this was described accurately, we just didnt realize what that meant until we experienced it.
We liked the place, it is close to the beach and the room is cozy. Access is convenient and the caretaker was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend it!
Great host. Check-in was easy and although I did not get to meet Stephanie & Cristiano they make sure we are comfortable and enjoyed our stay.
Quiet and clean. Exactly as described in the listing. Easy access to bathroom in main house. Great location, close to beach and downtown. Hosts were away, but their friend Evan hosted instead. Evan was very friendly and laid back. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Santa Cruz.
Wonderful stay, as described and walking distance to the harbor, boardwalk, restaurants, and grocery store. Hosts were away and had a house sitter watching their home, who was also available for any house needs. Room, Bathroom, everything was very clean and I felt very at home.
This was a great place to stay. Easy walk in to the Boardwalk. 10min drive to 41st to surf 'The Hook' (very cool). Room was quite nice too and very easy instructions. The hosts were away but they organised a friend to house-sit and he was very helpful. Gave us some local surf tips and awesome restaurant recommendations.
Host was pleasant at first meeting-
Clean room, dedetached from main home- very small
Did not always feel comfortable entering to use bathroom, since host was in main area most of the time, or had guest there.

About the Host, Stephanie & Cristiano
I am a Dancer, Fashion Designer, Artist, that was living in Salvador Brazil for the last 4 years, and just moved back to Santa Cruz, after 10 years of wandering around. In Brazil I spend most of my time in dance classes, rehearsals, workshops, performing, out at dance performances, music events, surfing, or at home designing clothing in my studio. I met my husband Cristiano there, and he moved to California with me to experience life here. We acquired this house, which is a definite fixer-upper, but we have made our way through a lot of projects one after another. We are still awaiting a great paint job, and some yard work, but the inside of our house by far surpasses it's outer appeal, lol. We are very accommodating to our guests, and are very centrally located close to everything! We also did Airbnb in Brazil when we were living there for about 2 years, and had a number of international guests stay with us. As you will see all of the reviews we got from our prior listings. We love Airbnb! It's a great way to rent out your space, and make friends while you are at it! :) I hope that you will enjoy our place here in the beautiful Santa Cruz!!! FYI I also teach private surf lessons and provide a surf board if you are interested...
