House Rules

Guests are welcome to smoke out in the garden but not indoors.

Please be respectful of other guests, the landlord who lives in the carriage house behind the house, and the neighbours, in terms of being quiet after 11pm.

Guests are asked to be aware of the meditation schedule and of no movement in and out of the house during the scheduled sessions. Please make an appointment with Myokyo for instruction if you would like to join the meditation.

Again, a reminder of the vegetarian space – fabulous Portuguese fish restaurants, all ethnic cuisines, vegan and vegetarian restos in the neighbourhood!

All the reviews are true! Myokyo is an absolutely lovely person. I feel fortunate to have been able to meet her and stay at the Zen Center. Nevermind its serene elegance and beautiful details (her garden, the art on the walls, the arrangement of plants!). Beyond that, it is centrally located: right off trendy L'Avenue du Mont Real, and pretty much close to everywhere I wanted to go (Mont Royal, Mile End, Downtown, McGill...). I loved my garden room, which was filled with natural light, and otherwise delivered everything as promised. Further, my trip was sweetened (literally and figuratively) by Myokyo's excellent recommendations of eateries and cultural spots. As for Kyozen, he is one of the most gorgeous of his species whom I have met. Unfortunately, as he is loyal to Myokyo and an important part of the center, I could not convince him to come back home with me! Myokyo: Domo osewani-narimashita!

My girlfriend and I already had pretty high expectations for our stay in the "Garden Room" of the Zen Centre based on reading prior reviews. But Myokyo exceeded our expectations as a truly gracious host who took the time to explain the amenities. She also had plenty of recommendations for nearby restaurants, provided us with umbrellas when it rained, and even kept a few public transit smart cards around as loaners so that we didn't necessarily have to pay the cost of buying new ones during our Montreal travels. (We ended up purchasing temporary STM public transit cards that didn't cost anything beyond the rides in any case.) There were two other guests staying on the second floor of the Zen Centre during our visit, but we didn't encounter any scheduling issues in sharing the upstairs bathroom with them. Our room was quite clean and soothing in its minimalist decor, and the bed itself was very comfortable. Both an extra comforter and fan were available in case we got too cold or hot at night, but the September weather was fairly rainy and cool during our two-night stay in Montreal. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a quiet place to sleep and rest. Myokyo provides tea and coffee for guests, but this isn't the place to go with if you want to make home-cooked meals or bring back takeout food. On the other hand, it's a fantastic option if you plan on spending most of your trip out and about while you explore Montreal. The local neighborhood of Le Plateau-Mont-Royal includes some great meal options for everything from brunch to dinner, plus some locations of Montreal's famous rival bagel shops. We were also able to easily rely upon public transit and/or walking to reach Old Montreal tourist sites and Mont Royal. Last but not least, your stay at the Zen Centre will likely include encounters with Myokyo's gentle giant of a dog named Kyozan. Since we left, my girlfriend has wistfully talked about missing her "direwolf."

We stayed at Myokyo's for a short stay in Montreal and couldn't have been happier! The place was gorgeous from the garden to the room & was the perfect place to relax after exploring the city. Myokyo was very kind & provided great suggestions for food and things to do. We're looking forward to staying at the zen centre again!

We were back in Montreal for the first time in ten years and wanted to find a place to stay close to where my daughter was moving into. When we saw the description/pictures of Myokyo's place we knew right away that that was where we wanted to stay ... and we were not disappointed in any way. The location is superb, close to some of the coolest areas of the city, but when you walk up the path into Myokyo's place you feel like you are walking out of the city and into a oasis of calm. A peaceful retreat, spotlessly clean, with a wonderful host. We will be back.

Myokyo User ProfileMyokyo is a superhost.

I am obviously very involved in Zen practice. I have a keen interest in dogs, growing vegetables, climbing on Mont-Royal, artisanal beers (especially Porters) and excellent salads...

Quiet, but fun-loving and creative, I would say!
