Private room and bathroom/deck

House - Private room · Santa Cruz Avenue, Aptos, CA 95003, United States

The Space

We are offering a private bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor of our home. Our living quarters are upstairs.
Our home is one block from Seacliff beach in Aptos and just above the steps down to the cement ship. You will have access to your own private deck and a quiet, attractive back yard. We have free wi-fi, cable TV and ipod, ipad charger, refrigerator and microwave available in your room. Also, you will have both coffee and tea makings to start your mornings. We provide fresh fruit and pastry for breakfast.

Upstairs is our private area.

We are just three blocks from several wonderful and very reasonably priced restaurants.

We provide beach towels and we have an outdoor warm shower for rinsing after you have been to the beach. We have a quiet neighborhood that comes alive in the summer with multiple summer rentals on our street. We have a large driveway for you to park in.

We do have three outdoor cats who wander in at night but only walk past the guest area on their way upstairs. They are not allowed in the guest area and are frightened of strangers so they should not be a bother to those allergic. The guest room is brand new with paint, new wood floors and new bedding so there should be no allergy issues.

If you love to bike you are in 7th heaven as Nisene Marks State Redwood Forest is merely 1/8 mile away and is full of bike trails that culminate in a steep climb (if you wish) to a summit which offers amazing views of Monterey Bay. You can also arrange for a ride to the top and coast down. In addition it is a beautiful park to hike and picnic.
Seacliff State Beach is merely yards from the house across a field and down the state park stairs. It is a wonderful beach with tables and BBQs, and a wharf which is connected to an old cement ship and a history museum.

Come stay with us and find out what this area has to offer. You'll come back year after year. It is very good for young and old. Bike in the morning and beach in the afternoon then party downtown Santa Cruz.

John teaches piano and guitar lessons after 1pm daily, upstairs, which are not heard in the downstairs bedroom. He will be home most all times to help with questions and needs.

We encourage international travelers as we have toured much in Europe, Balkans, Philippines, Hawaii, Alaska and always are yearning to hear of other destinations and other peoples homes and cultures.

We can accommodate a futon bed, if needed, in the second bedroom downstairs for $25. This is temporary since we have plans to make a second airbnb in that room.

  • I feel like the stars aligned for me with this airbnb choice! The Rockwells were so welcoming and helped me get to the surf and great food. The room was so inviting and comfortable and the fresh fruit, coffee and pastries in the mornings made me feel a bit like a queen. If I ever travel through Santa Cruz again I will definitely say hi to my new friends. Also - the beach is super close and I happened upon a double rainbow into the ocean during my stay! Amazingly Beautiful.

You have left us with many good memories and a bright shiney smile.

  • We had a great time at Mary and Johnny's house. The host was kind and hospitable. The room is completely private. Very close to the beach, very quiet and relaxing. We will definitely go back! Highly recommended!

  • We absolutely loved our stay at Mary's listing! The room was as described - very clean, cozy, with comfortable bed, TV, extra blanket. Mary also updated her listing, and now it even has a mini refrigerator and microwave. We had keys to the entrance, access to the private deck, bright and clean bathroom with nice hot shower. In the morning Mary left a tray with breakfast for us (fresh fruits, berries and croissants). Wow - we were touched by all the little details she and her husband thought of! They also have a lot of great recommendations about the area. Mary and John, thank you so much! We'll be back soon!

  • John and Mary are excellent hosts. I needed a private, cozy place to stay while I was in California and found their house to be very comfortable and warm. Loved having such close access to the beach. Loved being treating to pastries and fruit each morning Loved having the little private outside porch area. Highly recommend this place.

  • Mary & her husband were great hosts for our quick trip to Santa Cruz. They answered inquiries very quickly & were gracious in accommodating our last minute reservation. We hiked through Nisene Marks & their house was so conveniently located near the park & very close to the beach as well. We very much appreciated their recommendations & warmth of hosting. We also enjoyed their kind & thoughtful touches - a plug in kettle in our private bathroom (with tea & coffee options), maps of good restaurants close by with menus, an i-phone/i-pod charger radio, a tv with dvds & cable in our room, etc. A breakfast of large muffins & fresh fruit was waiting for us when we woke up & we enjoyed it on the deck with lovely weather & recommendations for places to visit from John. Thanks for a nice, albeit brief, stay Mary & John! We'd love to return & explore the beautiful area you call home :).

  • Mary and John's place was lovely! We appreciated the comfy bed, very clean and cozy room, & private bathroom/shower a few steps from the room. John gave us great tips - a short walk to the beach, and a short drive to Forest of Nisene Marks redwoods hikes (which we look forward to exploring next time). Breakfast on the porch in the garden was an especially nice treat!

Mary is a nurse who works in the operating room in a Monterey hospital. Johnny is music with G clefts in his DNA. A, 'B' Flat, we call him. John was an Alaskan crab/salmon fisherman thru the 70's with a background in music but he wanted adventure in his 20's. Mary was living in Hawaii where she had gone to nursing school and was working at the Kona hospital in Kealakekua, Big Island when they met. After John made the decision to quit fishing and make a career of music we had to find a place where that would work. We spent the 80's in Key West, Florida where John played Sloppy Joes as his primary work spot. In 1992 we relocated to the Monterey Bay area. Now rather than live in vacation spots we go on vacations like normal people. Our favorite was western Europe in the 90's turning to Eastern Europe in the 2000's and more recently Bosnia and Serbia. John returns to Key West each year to play music with one of his 4 bands. Mary spends her birthday each year visiting a friend from her many moves as a military brat. We love to hear the stories of other travelers, the trials, the good and the bad. After all some of our worst misadventures are our best stories and yielded the best results! We are frugal travelers therefore we have been able to take a full month of vacation several years in a row roaming Croatia, Poland, Slovenia, Bosnia, Serbia, Hungary yada, yada, yada. We love the big cities of New York, Chicago, Seattle you name it. We want to go. We love to know more about cultures, religions, books, travels and music of course.
