The space

Finca Las Frambuesas is a 7 acre farm with a river, small lake, forest, an orchard, 2 traditionally built houses, a fire pit, 3 dogs and a horse. Aside form renting our two beautiful houses, Casa del Lago (Lake House) and Casa del Pozo (Well House), we are starting an organic farming project and organizing holistic courses. If you stay 3 or more days we will share with you a basket of our own organic produce for your enjoyment!

The farm is located in San Isidro de Heredia, less than 40 minutes from the International Airport, only 25 minutes from San Jose by car and just 5 minutes from Braulio Carrillo National Park; a tropical rain forest with one of the highest levels of biodiversity in Costa Rica. More than 90% of the park is covered in primary forest.

Casa del Pozo is a private apartment next to the main house Casa del Lago. It has a deck, a terrace, a comfortable room with a beautiful bathroom, a kitchen/ living room / dinning room, all surrounded by lush tropical gardens. Perfect for a couple, the space will feel very homey and warm.

The property, due to its proximity to the capital and its serene natural environment, is also perfect for small weddings, and home births. Contact us for more information!

Lovely house. It's a pleasing living space, both indoors and out, with quality amenities -- i.e. comfortable chairs, sofas. We'd happily stay there again. As described. Her photos are accurate. The kitchen is very usable, with sufficient utensils and a nice gas stove. No cooking ingredients provided (except salt), which is fine. We didn't meet Maria-Fernanda in person, but her groundskeeper (who lives on site) greeted us. It's a gated property, and they give you a remote key to open the gate for your independence. She has a short list of local recommendations, and her restaurant choices were all nice, including a brick oven pizzeria, and a lovely and tasty converted farmhouse restaurant which was featured in the regional paper's food section (about "slow food") a few years ago. So it's a good combo of a nice place to say, and nice places to have dinner. I noticed another reviewer mentioning bugs, lizards. They do enter the house, regardless of whether you open the non-air-tight doors. But it's a minor issue, and the place is very clean overall. Warning: There is no door between the bedroom and the bathroom, though there is a half-wall that gives you privacy on the toilet. This is not a problem if you want to shoo others in your party to the main room while you poop, but if you have a larger group, and you want some extra privacy, it might be an issue.

Casa del Poza was as described with the addition of a center island in the kitchen which offers a gas stove top for cooking. I really enjoyed using this while taking in the lovely view of San Jose via the wonderful windows and deck. The home is beautiful and was what I expected from the photos and even more. Waking up each day to the view was breath taking and the sunsets each night were amazing. Star gazing too was something I enjoyed due to the location and clear skies. My rating would have been a 4.5 but that is not possible. There were some glitches in my visit, but I would still return and I understand the limitations of such a rental. One does have to realize you are in the country so it is expected you will have visiting lizards and local insects but this was not problematic due to the suite being very clean. However when you leave windows open to catch the wonderful breeze, this should be a consideration. I would suggest having a car, perhaps an SUV, if you will be traveling into the mountains further. Also a GPS system is essential. I would not have been able to travel as I did freely without one due to being alone and having to navigate the roads. I used Waze with much success and only lost a signal while high in the mountains. I loved my first visit to Costa Rica and staying in this area. I plan on returning soon with my family. I visited the Siba Chocolate Farm which was beautiful: (URL HIDDEN) Spent a Saturday morning at the Escazu Farmer's Market: (URL HIDDEN) Visited a local Toucan Rescue Ranch: (URL HIDDEN) Since it was a national holiday I also drove through many of the local towns and enjoyed some of the local festivities. The people of Costa Rica are very warm and friendly and even though I speak very little Spanish, I was able to usually find someone to assist if needed. This location is wonderful for those wanting to be away from the city but close enough to access it if needed. The airport is close, and San Jose usually never more than 40-50 minutes away. Lastly I did not meet Maria during my stay, however she was available by phone when I had some problems with the bathroom sink, even after being repaired. There is a groundskeeper on site if needed as well. I did choose to come in the following morning of my reservation after reading some of the reviews on the location. The roads are not the easy to navigate initially and the main road leading to the home was closed for two days while I was there. However I was able to navigate around that with Waze, but it was not in the system as a closure so that was a little blip as well. Overall I loved my stay at Casa del Pozo and would highly recommend it.

Maria was very welcoming and quick to respond if we needed anything. We had access to her organic garden, abundant in different varieties of kale, cilantro and herbs in addition to the guava, and other fruit trees on the property. The farm house was cozy, clean, nice decor with a good and functional kitchen and dining space. Great book collection in the bedroom. The water filter in the kitchen provided clean tasting water, which is a HUGE plus as most places don't supply this to guests. Definitely saved us trips to the grocery store and lugging gallons of water. Thanks Maria for the filter/agua :) We LOVED and enjoyed her 2 dogs- Macho and Taco. Macho slept in the casa with us almost every night of our stay. Both dogs are sweeties. We would say you would have to love dogs if you decide to book a stay at Maria's farm. The dogs are so welcoming, friendly and liked to be our guides when were walked around the property and when we explored the trail to the river. We miss your doggies already! We really enjoyed practicing yoga and meditating on the outdoor private deck from our bedroom daily. The other deck was a great place to sun bathe, enjoy breakfast, read, relax and just enjoy mountain life. Overall, we definitely recommend you stay at Casa del Pozo.

We absolutely LOVED this place for so many heartwarming reasons. First off, the place is even more gorgeous than the pictures (and the pictures are already gorgeous!) and will make your jaw drop in awe and wonder that this will be your cozy cottage home for the next few days. It is filled with light and your views all around you are beautiful green nature, and on top of that there is a beautiful lake just a few steps down on the property, acres of private garden grounds to wander in, and an amazing skyline view of the city below you down in the valley from the patio. It is very private and homey and you will never want to leave. The interior design and architectual layout of the cottage living spaces are also very well thought-out and we enjoyed having so many options of where to hang out and chill inside or outside. The patio was one of our favorite spots because it was the perfect combination of being perfectly comfortable indoors and outdoors at the same time with a very spacious patio, very comfy sofa, and plenty of open space views to enjoy the rain and thunderstorms at night which are incredible. And on top of that, the family, friends, and pets here are AMAZING. They were the most memorable thing about this place and we miss them all very much and wish we could come hang out with them everyday. The first day we were greeted by Fred, Maria, and the rest of their welcoming friends and family and invited to have a delicious organic lunch at their home with everyone, which Maria prepared with items from her own garden. One of our most favorite meals in Costa Rica! Then, we were invited to participate in a permaculture Adobe brick making class right on the property with Paolo. It was the perfect way to spend our first day in Costa Rica and the experience can't be topped! We had so much fun learning and making with everyone and will remember this for the rest of our lives. It was so refreshing to see and learn about the operation they are developing here at the farm to create more eco-friendly, educational programs to offer their visitors for them to experience and share. We really feel connected and appreciate this mission and the big-hearted people behind it. This type of interconnectedness could never be experienced in a hotel or resort, because it happens between family and friends, and that is exactly how Maria and Fred make you feel upon entering the gates. Do not hesitate to book this place. Staying here will heal your heart and soul. And we really miss the two dogs and cat who were our constant companions who warmed our hearts so much that we still miss and wish we could play with them again here in the States!

We stayed for 4 nights at Casa del Pozo, and we absolutely loved it there. The suite was clean, spacious, open, with lots of natural light from the big windows, and had a very cozy feeling. There were two porches (one with a roof and one without) with nice views of the city, as well as of the trees and greenery all around. The two dogs and cat were so friendly--we missed them when we left! The location was great, not too far from towns and bigger cities if you want to explore, but far enough to feel like you are in a rural, more secluded area. The host was reachable by phone whenever we had questions, which was helpful. They also had a packet in the suite with useful information about the surrounding areas and tips about where to visit. We definitely recommend staying here. The next time we go to Costa Rica, we will certainly go back to Case del Pozo!
