Interaction with Guests
We like to be here to welcome you and show you around. We have good maps of the area and lots of information on outdoor activities, the local area and things to do. After that the amount of interaction is up to you - and our availability. We lay up breakfast for you and try to be around to have breakfast with you. You are welcome to help yourselves to cereal, toast and fruit and if you'd like a cooked breakfast we are happy to cook it for you for a small additional charge (up to €6 each). You are also welcome to join us for supper (this needs to be agreed in advance. Again there is a small charge of no more than €12 per head). We give you keys and once we've checked you in you are welcome to come and go as you like.
As a non-native, I feel I can say that I love the Burren because it's like nowhere else I've ever been. The stark beauty of this area (Burren means 'a rocky place') and incredible light mix to give an array of colour on all but the dullest of days, with gold striking off the black mountains as the sun shines through on a wet day; or the purple hue of the rock on a sunny day laced with ambers, greens, browns and golds where hedgerows, hazel and grass grow along paths and flat areas broken only by the silver grey of dry stone walls picked out by the sun snaking up the hillside.
I love the peace and tranquility of this area. It's a real 'get away from it all and just 'stop' place. Many of our guests have arrived and spent their time wandering the farm, finding butterflies and moths or rare plants and resting after long tours of other parts of Ireland. All say they find the area really calm and relaxing. But if you want to get out and enjoy what the Burren has to offer we have masses to do and see on our doorstep and great local pubs for food and music.
Our farm is unique, even within this unique area. An organic farm with traditional buildings, a rural feel and immediate access to this incredible landscape.
A car (or bike or some sort of transport) is absolutely 100% necessary for getting around.

We had a wonderful time at Helen's and Enda's house, being surrounded by the extraordinary landscape of the Burren which offered an excellent retreat from everyday life.
The lovely blue house is located in good driving distance to all popular destinations in and around the Burren, including Cliffs of Moher, Aran Island Ferries etc. …
Staying with them was more than just being provided with bed and breakfast (both excellent). We felt as true guests!
We spent much time together at breakfasts and in the evening having inspiring and interesting conversation not only on touristy topics but about everything and anything while sharing a bottle of wine.
Not to forget Helen and Enda seem to know (nearly) every person and every place in the area, so we were given great advice what to see and where to go. That is accomplished by a wide selection of books, brochures and maps of the area, including some personal advice on walking tracks you could easily miss, since not every sight is signposted.
Last but not least we loved their two cats Mrs. and Doogle (yes Helen, he truly can be nice) and dog Ruby.
Thanks for having us and we hope to stay with you again!
What contrast between the rough and wild country that is the Burren and hyper warm welcome we had at Helen and Ende !!!! First of all, a pretty blue house, tastefully decorated in lush greenery where peace and tranquility reign. A cozy room where nothing is missing and finally, wonderfully adorable, available and generous hosts that he was very sad to leave. Total immersion in the life of Helen and Ende (sharing breakfast, dinner with friends) will remain for us one of the most human moments we have passed since our arrival in Ireland. Thank you for your kindness. We really hope that our paths will cross one day.

Helen and Enda made me feel very welcome in their home. I was delighted to have breakfast with them each morning and particularly enjoyed chatting with Helen. I enjoyed my scenic journey each day across the mountain to the Burren College of Art where I doing a five day workshop in Botanical Art. No matter how late I arrived home in the evening I was offered food and tea. My room was spotless and very comfortable. Thank you Helen and Enda for a lovely five days in your home. Noeleen
Staying with Helen and Enda is a unique experience. Their farmhouse is very cozy and surrounded by the beautiful Burren-landscape. They are very friendly and helpful, wether you need a hiking-tipp (map and Kompass included) or directions to the best Pubs and Restaurants in the area. Definitely worth a trip!

I am English and have lived in the Burren for 10 years. I really love it here - the scenery is something else and the Burren offers 'Big Sky' of the type I've only otherwise seen in Africa. Despite the fact that our mountains are in truth hills, when you're on top of them you feel like you're on top of the world and the views down into the valleys and the sea are simply spectacular.
Before settling here and marrying a wonderful local man, I lived in London and worked in the City. I came here for a week to visit family and fell in love with the area as soon as I arrived - total calm and peace, but also 'mighty craic' (great fun). While the intermittent phone coverage and low-tech lifestyle might initially feel 20th century it only adds to the ability to truly take a break from 'normal' life, something that is harder and harder to do.
I have since re-trained (at Vidal Sassoon) and am now a mobile hairdresser. I love travelling (big trips include driving from London to Capetown & a year in New Zealand), film, cooking and eating good food & wine, reading, and walking up our mountains. I speak a bit of French and Italian (lots of mistakes but lots of willingness!) and am happy to welcome guests of any type from any part of the world.
Whether you come to stay in our cottage or up at the big house, we would welcome you as a friend who could spend as much or as little time with us as you wanted. We have lots of information about the local area and are happy to advise and help you access local activities where we can.
