Our cosy but comfortable home is a traditional Irish farmhouse set in 300 acres of farmland in the heart of the Burren, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a UNESCO Geopark. 10 mins from the sea and within easy reach of Co's Galway & Limerick

The Space

Peaceful & secluded our location is great for outdoor activities, walking or spotting our unique mix of flora and fauna - or just getting away from it all and chilling out. Centrally located for Cliffs of Moher, Burren National Park, Connemara, Aran Islands, Galway/Limerick, local village entertainment, beaches and outdoor activities including surfing, rock climbing, kayaking, caving, walking, riding & fishing.

Our small cottage is a traditional farmhouse with an open fire and cosy atmosphere. We comfortably accommodate 2 guests. The bed in your room is exceptionally comfortable with a traditional hand crafted coil spring mattress, 4 feather pillows, a duck down duvet, hypoallergenic mattress and pillow protectors, and high quality pure cotton bed linen. There is a wardrobe, small chest of drawers, bedroom chair, mirror, waste paper basket and two bathrobes for your use. Your room looks across the drive to trees and the fields beyond.

Guest Access

You will have access to the shared sitting room, bathroom and kitchen as well as our garden and the farmland around us.

Interaction with Guests

We like to be here to welcome you and show you around. We have good maps of the area and lots of information on outdoor activities, the local area and things to do. After that the amount of interaction is up to you - and our availability. We lay up breakfast for you and try to be around to have breakfast with you. You are welcome to help yourselves to cereal, toast and fruit and if you'd like a cooked breakfast we are happy to cook it for you for a small additional charge (up to €6 each). You are also welcome to join us for supper (this needs to be agreed in advance. Again there is a small charge of no more than €12 per head). We give you keys and once we've checked you in you are welcome to come and go as you like.

The Neighborhood

As a non-native, I feel I can say that I love the Burren because it's like nowhere else I've ever been. The stark beauty of this area (Burren means 'a rocky place') and incredible light mix to give an array of colour on all but the dullest of days, with gold striking off the black mountains as the sun shines through on a wet day; or the purple hue of the rock on a sunny day laced with ambers, greens, browns and golds where hedgerows, hazel and grass grow along paths and flat areas broken only by the silver grey of dry stone walls picked out by the sun snaking up the hillside.

I love the peace and tranquility of this area. It's a real 'get away from it all and just 'stop' place. Many of our guests have arrived and spent their time wandering the farm, finding butterflies and moths or rare plants and resting after long tours of other parts of Ireland. All say they find the area really calm and relaxing. But if you want to get out and enjoy what the Burren has to offer we have masses to do and see on our doorstep and great local pubs for food and music.

Our farm is unique, even within this unique area. An organic farm with traditional buildings, a rural feel and immediate access to this incredible landscape.

Getting around

A car (or bike or some sort of transport) is absolutely 100% necessary for getting around.

  • It´s a pitty we did not meet Helen however Enda was a great host. He was welcoming us with a lot of information for how to explore and enjoy the region. The room was clean and comfortable. The Farmhouse is a beautiful, calm and quiet place. There is a nice pub in Carran with good food. This B&B is absolutely recommendable and we would stay there again.

    Hi Helene

Yes, I'm disappointed not to have met you, but Enda said you were lovely guests - his first experience of hosting on his own so I'm glad you had a good visit with us. Thank you for recommending us, and hopefully you will come again some day.

    Kind regards

  • Helen and Enda's farm house was our last stop on a 2 week journey from Dublin to Galway. They are gracious hosts and we fell into an easy rhythm with them. We/they felt more like family than guests. We shared a meal or two, got great advice and directions on what to see in the area. We shared stories, took walks, played with their dog and cats. We had great sleeps on the comfortable bed. I would highly recommend this listing to any of my friends traveling to their area.

  • We love staying with Helen and Enda! What a warm, welcoming home and a wonderful couple to match! We had lovely chats about our passions for travel and also the uniqueness of the Burren region. The room was clean and comfortable and we were provided plenty of information for how to explore and enjoy the region. Helen was flexible with breakfast and our lazy schedule which was much appreciated. Wish we could have stayed longer!

  • We absolutely loved our stay with Helen and Enda!! Their house was gorgeous and had a amazing views of the Burren. Both Helen and Enda made us feel so welcome into their home. We talked for hours about a variety of topics as they seemed genuinely interested in our culture and our experiences. Helen was so amazing at giving us detailed directions around the area, as well as making suggestions on things to do she even gave us maps where certain things "off the beaten bath" were located. Our last night in town we all went out for a pint at the local pub. If you are ever in the area stay with them! It was an amazing experience.

  • Helen & Enda were delightful hosts and we very much enjoyed our two day stay with them. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Helen cooked a delicious dinner for us one evening, and our conversations were a pleasure. We so much enjoyed their company that one evening we went out and had dinner at a local restaurant on the water. The nearby Burren is exotic and starkly beautiful, and the Cliffs of Moher, also only a short drive away, were nothing short of breathtaking and awe inspiring! Helen and Enda also have a bigger house available nearby for large groups, which might be considered for group stays in the Burren area.

  • I spent a wonderful two nights here. This is my kind of place! Helen and Enda - and their charming house - are warm, welcoming and easy-going, but they are really looking after their guests' comfort and welfare, with many lovely small touches of care. That little jug of garden flowers in the guest-room, the hand-made soap, and the white bathrobe hanging ready behind the door. Essentials like a really comfy bed and good bed linen, and less usual features such as the absolutely tranquil and homely feel of the house, with its deeply comfortable sofas and rugs; its setting among apple trees; the peacefulness of the secluded valley, and the singing of a million songbirds in one of the finest dawn choruses you are likely to hear anywhere (if you are here in the springtime, and the birds are gigging). And the Burren cuckoos hard at it, every time you go out for a walk!
It was my very first use of Airbnb, and Helen was so patient, as I struggled with my booking. The description and photos are a true representation of the kind of house it is, and the kind of place it is set in. There are shelves of books and maps and local information, and it is no great distance to the local pub, or to the the excellent organic café at the Burren Perfumery in Carran. Helen and Enda are open, friendly, and interesting people, with lots going on, but with time to share with visitors, at long breakfast-times with bottomless pots of tea, and an array of home-made jams and local wildflower honey to put on your toast. For a visitor, it is idyllic! The farm is set in a sheltered bowl in the Burren hills, a mix of open pasture and hazel woodland, with paths that wander up into the hills. It is a very special sort of place! Many thanks to you both for how nicely you look after your visitors - I plan to be back...

  • We had a lovely stay with Helen and Enda. Even before we arrived, Helen offered loads of help with directions and logistics, and once we got there, we had a nice cup of tea with her and caught up a bit, plus received some suggestions tailored to our interests. The house and bedroom are comfortable, and in a very quiet/remote location (mind the cows that may be on the driveway on the way in!), yet not too far from civilization. We had the run of the place one night when Helen and Enda were out, and they set us up to utilize the TV/DVD, fireplace, etc. They even kindly offered to let us use the kitchen to cook if we wanted. Their small dog Ruby (who sleeps with them) is a sweetheart, as were the kittens that spent most of their time in the laundry room and aren't allowed in the bedrooms (one of them is named "Dougal", for those of you who are fans of "Father Ted"). All in all, we had a grand time. Highly recommended.

  • All I can say is...we miss this place and these wonderful people (and their world's-sweetest-dog) a LOT! I'm just about ready to move in :) Helen and Enda are marvelously warm and generous hosts, and their cozy and comfortable cottage situated in the heart of the Burren is the perfect place to explore this gorgeously rugged landscape. Stone walls winding all the way up the mountain, limestone and clear springs and colorful snails, tea and carrot cake at the Burren Perfumery, tiny orchids, a deep sense of home...still dreaming about it. Thank you!!!

About
I am English and have lived in the Burren for 10 years. I really love it here - the scenery is something else and the Burren offers 'Big Sky' of the type I've only otherwise seen in Africa. Despite the fact that our mountains are in truth hills, when you're on top of them you feel like you're on top of the world and the views down into the valleys and the sea are simply spectacular. Before settling here and marrying a wonderful local man, I lived in London and worked in the City. I came here for a week to visit family and fell in love with the area as soon as I arrived - total calm and peace, but also 'mighty craic' (great fun). While the intermittent phone coverage and low-tech lifestyle might initially feel 20th century it only adds to the ability to truly take a break from 'normal' life, something that is harder and harder to do. I have since re-trained (at Vidal Sassoon) and am now a mobile hairdresser. I love travelling (big trips include driving from London to Capetown & a year in New Zealand), film, cooking and eating good food & wine, reading, and walking up our mountains. I speak a bit of French and Italian (lots of mistakes but lots of willingness!) and am happy to welcome guests of any type from any part of the world. Whether you come to stay in our cottage or up at the big house, we would welcome you as a friend who could spend as much or as little time with us as you wanted. We have lots of information about the local area and are happy to advise and help you access local activities where we can. Life Motto: Eat life with a big spoon; Feed the good dog.
