Designer Hell's Kitchen Brownstone

Apartment - Entire home/apt · West 44th Street, New York, NY 10036, United States

The best of both worlds - a 100 year old classic ivy-covered brownstone fully restored to its original character and grandeur with modern touches and conveniences. Escape from the hustle and bustle, but still have it at your convenience!

The Space

This one-bedroom apartment spans across the entire third floor of a fully restored 1899 historic brownstone in the heart of Hell's Kitchen. The bedroom faces north with windows viewing West 44th Street (ranked one of the most beautiful blocks in Manhattan), and the living room has southern views of a private garden and fountain. You're within walking distance of all the theatres, Times Square, and midtown.

The apartment has a full-sized gourmet kitchen, complete with a 4-burner stove, oven, and large refrigerator. There is also a countertop toaster oven (no microwave), Nespresso machine, and Kitchenaid mixer. Whip up a meal and serve it at the dining table! There is no TV in the apartment, but there is a washer/dryer.

The bedroom is finely appointed with a full-sized bed and all down bedding. The living room could accommodate a third guest on the sofa (note that it is not a pull-out, however).

Please note that I am currently fostering a cat, Miss Dottie. She is older and very well-behaved, but will be in the apartment during your stay. I've lowered the rate, as I am asking the houseguest to kindly keep Dottie fed/watered during the visit. Other than that, she's incredibly low maintenance.

Guest Access

Guests will have full access to the apartment. Make yourself at home!

The Neighborhood

Hell's Kitchen is a fantastic neighborhood to be in! Times Square is a stone's throw away, but far enough to sleep well at night.

With vibrant arts, music, and gay friendly/LGBT scenes, there's never a dull moment! Lots of artsy vendors, independently owned restaurants and shops, and plenty to keep you busy.

Every subway you could ever want is nearby.

A/C/E - 1 avenue away
1/2/3 - 2 avenues away

  • Matt's apartment is absolutely gorgeous and in a fantastic location! We had three people staying (two in the bed, one on the sofa) and there was plenty of room for all of us. The apartment is really lovely and the neighbourhood is very safe and so close to Times Square.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone travelling to NYC!

  • Matt was fabulous and his apartment a gem in the middle of the city. It is every bit as charming as the photos. What a wonderful stay. Thank you Matt for making our marathon trip such a delight.

  • Matt was kind, cheerful, helpful, easy to contact, quick to reply, organized and honest about his apartment. There were no surprises and we loved staying at this lovely, clean, pleasant apartment. It has such a nice feel and the bed is fabulous. We will be back and Matt is just great. Relaxed, easy-going, and helpful, I really feel like he is someone I would love to have as a friend. The apartment is really just adorable and very close to the theater district and Times Square, an easy walk, and so many restaurants.....but in a beautiful old brownstone on a lovely street. It is a different world on his block and in his apartment. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped, great view of the garden in back and the street in front, high ceilings and wood floors. It is beautifully decorated, the neighbours were quiet, and we were happy as could be. We loved coming back and relaxing after shopping, going to the theater, eating, and looking at great art, and eating! So restful and comfortable. Dottie is a doll and we fell in love with her! It was hard to say good-bye to her! All in all....great experience. We will be back. Thanks Matt for a fabulous stay on my 60th birthday!

  • Perfection is the only appropriate word to use. Quiet, serene, elegant and comes equipped with the cutest cat ever. It's amazing that this place is just around the corner from bustling 9th avenue, but when you're inside it's almost like stepping into another era. The place was meticulously clean, and Matt was a welcoming host. The only problem with this place is you will not want to leave.

  • The apartment was wonderful as was the host - very accommodating and welcoming and all the necessities and conveniences were provided. The neighborhood is absolutely fantastic - perfect location for restaurants and theater and getting in and out of town.

About
A baker, decorator, and accountant, people often think I'm a walking contradiction. I love excel and spreadsheets about as much as I love color wheels and fabric swatches. I work hard (and sometimes too often), but I'm in one of the best cities in the world - New York! My freezer is filled to the brim with Ben & Jerry's ice cream. I have a sweet tooth for anything sour, and I love indulging in a glass (or three!) of wine. I think TVs are an eyesore, so I prefer to watch all my mindless television on a laptop. This season, Revenge, Suits, and Modern Family are all in my queue. :) An avid lover of real estate and decor, I enjoy exploring new cities by traveling through Airbnb. I've decided to share my own apartment as a special piece of New York City. I think I'm lucky to live where I do, and it's great sharing that with people!
