This Artists' Aerie has a magical feeling to it - facing south, with light on 3 sides and fresh ocean breezes. Busy Boardwalk but a quiet neighborhood. One can toast on the roof deck, and when thoroughly cooked, descend to the shady deck to chill.
We love living in Venice, and being half a block from the sand in one direction, and two blocks from all the wonderful bookstores, restaurants, clothing stores, antique stores, coffee shops and...did we mention restaurants? on Abbott Kinney make it virtually unnecessary to even have a car. Seriously. People come from all over the world to see the parade on the Boardwalk, and it never fails to amaze and entertain.
The apartment itself is a perfect romantic getaway for two, with luxurious linens on a full sized bed, from which you can hear the sound of the surf at night. It will comfortably sleep 4, thanks to a snug sleeping loft with it's own glimpse of the ocean. There’s an enclosed deck just outside the dining area with a couch big enough to sleep on, for drowsy afternoon napping, and another deck on the roof with its own peek of the ocean with steamer chairs and an umbrella.
Inside, a cozy but 7 foot long down sofa in front of a flat screen HDTV, a sensibly appointed kitchen with (we think this is a big deal) a virtually silent Fisher-Paykel refrigerator, a dining table that can be rolled outside or stay in, glorious light and fresh ocean breezes conspire to lure you away from the real amenities of this Venice Beach charmer....being able to wander through Venice itself, spotting movie stars, rock stars, ex-Governors or just pretending you live here.
As we said, you might do very well without a car, though there is one (rare) parking space included.
1 parking space, washer dryer, hot outdoor shower, barbeque in the front garden (shared with the Treehouse).
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as they need.
Positively no smoking inside or out. Quiet neighbors, tranquil space. Enclosed deck has a daybed that separates to sleep two (for those who like sleeping en plein aire, and the roof deck has two chairs for sunning.
We have just arrived back in the UK after two months at this super place. We totally fell in love with the apartment – its location is perfect, about 30 seconds to the boardwalk, so close enough to all the action but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet. And the apartment itself is even better than it looks in the pictures. It's got a wonderful energy that images can't quite capture. My fiance and I stayed in the little den room, which gets flooded with natural light and enjoys lovely views out over the rooftops to the sea. Sleep with the window open and you can hear the ocean.
The apartment gets the sun pretty much all day – so you can take coffee on the sofa just outside the kitchen door, or climb the ladder to the roof deck.
Spotlessly clean and cleaned each week. A stack of fresh towels – laundered each week and replaced. Kitchen is well equipped and has everything you'll need for cooking in. There is a washer and dryer in the shared area downstairs and an additional outdoor shower, which came in handy for showering off sand after a (website hidden) D was a perfect host. She is friendly, interesting and easy to get along with. She was just round the corner if we needed her, bought round outdoor crockery and a patio table once the weather hotted up and had lots of great tips on places to eat locally.
We were REALLY sad to leave and hope to come back again soon. Huge thanks to Mz D for coming to our rescue when our original accommodation plans went awry. We will miss everything about Artists Eyrie and Venice Beach terribly...
Dorothy was a really wonderful and accommodating landlady. She was responsive to any minor issues we had and was present most days to discuss our stay. She's also a kind and conscientious person. She greeted us on the first day of our stay with fresh fruit, cheese, and other goodies in the fridge. Lovely lady.

Esthetics are incredibly important to me, so I've surrounded myself with objects that give me great visual pleasure and a feeling of tranquility. However, I'm easily bored, so the ability to find entertainment without having to drive for hours is equally necessary. So, although I still miss my years as a New Yorker, this is the compromise: being half a block from the Venice Boardwalk is kind of like the Village...but with better weather.
