About this listing
This is a cozy garden/beach bungalow and bathhouse. The bungalow has a kitchenette and private sunny deck overlooking nature. 5 minute walk to a private beach. Endless paths for walking or riding on More Mesa cliffs.
This bungalow is situated in a beach community near a nature preserve called More Mesa. The rental unit is separate from the main house with a private entrance. Even though it is on the same property, it is very private. It has it's own kitchenette with fridge, water pot, microwave, coffee, tea and utensils. We love the view from the inside looking out the glass doors to the garden. Just trees, flowers, and the meadow beyond. You can sit on your own deck and enjoy the peaceful sunny morning. Its seriously difficult to leave this spot. Its a great place to be if you are artistically inclined.
There is a cute, woodsy bathhouse for, your exclusive use, with shower (hot and cold), eco toilet and sink and a sunning deck overlooking the meadow beyond the creek bed. The bathhouse is under the avocado tree accessible by a foot path about 15 feet from the bungalow. Note : the bathhouse is separate from the bungalow .
There is a key to access the beautiful private beach which the guests may use. There are bikes to ride on the bike path North to UCSB and Isla Vista or South to Hope Ranch or on the endless trails of More Mesa. We also have a few surf boards to try out the waves at the nearby beaches of Campus Point, Deverough, or Sands.
Santa Barbara is only a 10 min. drive to downtown.
Interaction with Guests
Marty is a lisenced MASSAGE THERAPIST and Posture Alignment Specialist in the Egoscue method for pain relief. He will do an hour Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, or Sports Massage for 65$ or Egoscue Posture Therapy for $75. He can set up the massage table on the deck of the bungalow.
We give a 1 and 1/2 hr. SURF LESSONS for 80$. 140$ for 2 people. The beach called Campus Point near our house is great for learning.
We would interact as much or as little as the guests would like. We will be in the main house or out and about for the most part doing the usual things like working, or gardening or running down for a jump in the water. We try to be home to greet our guests when they arrive, however sometimes we are out. But we always leave instructions on how to enter the bungalow. We have really enjoyed meeting all our guests and we love providing a refreshing and beautiful experience for them.
We love that our neighborhood is quiet and so close to the beach and nature.
It is walking distance to the Beachside Bar Cafe which is a fun place for Happy Hour or morning brunch at 11:00. Walk up the beach to the right for about 15 to 20 minutes at mid to low tide, you'll reach the pier and the cafe. If it's high tide the bike path also gets there.
Other Things to Note
The price of the bungalow includes taxes.
We hope that you will enjoy your stay here. We would like it if you would leave the holiday rental in reasonable order when you leave. Also, there is one key to the beach gate, and since the cost for buying a new one in this housing association is 150.00$, we would have to take that from your security deposit, if the key goes missing. We ensure the deposit will be returned to you unless an extreme circumstance (breakage or loss of key) has occurred.
Please NO SMOKING at the house or in the yard.
If you would like to book for one night we can make special arrangements on certain dates.
But the main rule is that you have an amazing, relaxing time!
We were greeted warmly by Carey who showed us our room and told us about the amenities. The accommodations were accurate as listed and we enjoyed the scenic garden area on the site.
The bungalow was just as peaceful and charming as it looks. The garden and views are wonderful and the location is a nice respite from the running around we did to beaches and wineries (sadly, we ended up spending no time at the neighborhood beach, which looked lovely). The quarters are small, but given that there were 4 of us (parents, a 10 year old and 1 year old), we all stayed surprisingly sane and actually enjoyed being cozy - the nice deck helped a lot in this regard too. The bath house is really a treat and I likened the whole experience to the most upscale camping imaginable.
There are a couple things I would caution people about, however. While the bungalow is private, it does sit right behind the owners home and while they are the nicest people, we sometimes felt intrusive (someone received a massage in the back garden for hours(!) and we felt the need to keep quiet - and with a 1 year old that's no easy feat). There are small planes that fly overhead throughout the day, but otherwise all is peaceful. And if you aren't fond of critters (including lots of spiders and cobwebs and odd noises while heading to the loo in the middle of the night), then this isn't for you.
All in all, we had a beautiful time and really enjoyed our stay.
This is an incredibly peaceful, quiet place to stay with a private and gorgeous beach and bluff trails less than 1/2 mile away (and a perfect route to stroll to both without traffic worries.) We all slept incredibly well because it's so quiet: nothing but mourning doves and other birds calling. It is on the airport route during the day, but jets end in the evening and don't begin early in the AM. We loved all the outdoor space, easy access to the beach and bluffs, mountain views, and the unique outdoor bathroom that's about 20 steps from the bedroom. If you are looking for a unique place to stay to get away from it all and just enjoy all that Santa Barbara's natural beauty has to offer, this is the spot!
We had a peaceful, relaxing stay at the Garden Bungalow while our house was getting worked on. The surroundings were perfect... so pleasant, very private, and comfortable. I enjoyed sitting and watching the birds... I could have just sat there all day! The hosts made sure we had everything we needed. I loved the furnishings, and the separate bath house was charming in every way. It met my expectations completely-~based on the photos I knew I was going to love it. It was a great getaway! I would go there again in a heartbeat. Way way better surroundings than a hotel and more than worth the cost, as you can make your own cold meals, or use the microwave. And the sunsets,,,,stunning! What a little slice of heaven!
This little bungalow was such a fantastic experience for me and my 10 year old daughter. The room was quite cozy with a comfy bed and an ample amount of storage. The kitchenette, although quite small, was perfect for storing our farmers market purchases and preparing small snacks and breakfast in the morning. Walking to the bath house to do our dishes in the outside sink was a great experience too. Kinda like glamping but kicked up a notch. The bath house was both innovative and eco-friendly...and the hot water got REALLY hot. Much to my surprise, it never ran out after back to back showers. The private deck was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the garden view. It was so quiet and peaceful that we slept with the just the screen door closed to allow for the cool air to come in. The only drawback was that every once in a while, a jet would go screaming by. But it didn't deter from the overall experience. We also had access to the owners bikes so we rode to the private beach twice a day. The This is a perfect little base camp if you're active and plan on making trips into the city or surrounding areas.
All in all, it was better than I expected. My daughter is looking forward to coming back and so am I. Thank you Marty and Carey (and Carly) for opening up your bungalow to us!
Marty and Carey's bungalow is beautiful and cozy. We enjoyed the space so much we only purchased take out so we could bring it home and eat on the deck and enjoy the nice scenery, weather, and backyard. The space was clean and as described. Marty was great with communication, making sure we'd have no issues accessing the property. They also made sure to leave us parking space on the driveway for our convenience. Thanks!
We had a great two night stay here in the garden bungalow. The bungalow is very comfortable and cosy. It's close to shops and other amenities, but feels like you're in the middle of the countryside. The separate shower room and sink in the garden just add to the rustic feel.
There's also loads to do with a private residents beach just down the road. We spent a day in Santa Barbara too, a lovely seaside town just 15 minutes drive down the 101. Would definitely recommend here to any couples travelling on the west coast.
