The Plank House Farm is a family homestead. We raise about 2/3 of our own food on 17 acres. We have large gardens of vegetables, fruits, berries, and herbs. We raise chickens, pigs, laying hens, and cows. We hand-milk our cow Gracie, and make our own butter, yogurt, and cheese. We raise and process our own meat on the land (smoke the bacon in the backyard, make sausage in the kitchen). Our land is mostly open pasture, and our house and barn are both over 200 years old. Guest accommodations are a three-bedroom upstairs suite that can comfortably sleep up to 5 adults, and includes a full bath (but no kitchen). There is no private entrance for guests. We are located on a dirt road less than 5 miles from the town of Hardwick, 5 miles from Greensboro and Lake Caspian, and 45 minutes from both Montpelier and St. Johnsbury.
We have a four-year-old girl, a baby boy, a cat, and a very friendly dog. The price of stay is $60/night for two people, and $20 per person after that.
We have wireless internet but we ask that you keep your mobile devices and/or laptop computers in your room. We are happy if you would like to help with chores, but please ask before feeding the animals or weeding the garden.
Thank you for everything! We had a great time at your lovely place....we enjoy the cultural tour! Long life to the toothbrush exhibition, and we're really sad to miss the 3 other puppets show at GRACE. It was the best part of the weekend! ..................................................................................................
We had a great time staying at the Family Homestead! It was a beautiful and comfortable house. Rose was great with communication and their cat was a great hostess for the first night while the family as away! It was so fantastic to see the stars at night -- I miss that living in a city! Thank you so much for hosting us and making me tea on Sunday when I wasn't feeling well.
A lovely quiet and peaceful retreat. Lots of room, lovely views and a delicious breakfast. Rose and Justin are warm, welcoming people! Highly recommended.
Our short stay at Justin and Rose's home was fantastic!
Our area was large, private, clean and immensly comfortable. We felt that we were renting a home within a home.
Our party included two adults, a 12 year old, and a dog. There was plenty of space for us.
Their homestead is beautiful - from garden to animals - to their large open kitchen.
Rose and Justin are knowledgeable and helpful navigating the area. Based on their suggestions we visited seveal local museums, which really enriched our stay.
They chatted with us but gave us space and privacy when appropriate. Eva, their daughter, is totally charming and had us all in her pocket right away. They're just all around bang-up hosts!
Oh, also the farm fresh breakfast offer is a must.
We would (and will) go back in a heartbeat!
Beautiful homestead with wonderful family host. These folks and their place is the real deal - genuine hospitality, real food, honest livelihood. You will be very happy and fortunate to spend time here.
What a beautiful home and lovely family! Everything we could have asked for. Rose, Justin and their daughter were so nice. Their home is amazing. We loved waking up and taking a moment to visit the cows and chickens. Breakfast was excellent, so glad we had the farm fresh breakfast, the pancakes were delicious. Very spacious, comfortable accommodations. We would whole heartedly recommend!!
We had a wonderful stay with Rose and Justin. Great and warm hosts. Absolutely beautiful setting. I would highly recommend them for families. Their daughter Eva was great with our daughter and the cows and chickens were fascinating for a city slicker kid. Recommend opting for the farm breakfast. The cheese they make is delectable.
We are parents, vaudevillians, milkers, gardeners, musicians, and puppeteers. Our four-year-old daughter Eva does all this and more. Lurvy serves as watchdog by chasing cars and being friendly to every stranger, and Letitia the cat is a shy new addition.
