Sestri Levante is a charming seaside town. It offers a perfect compromise, providing a convenient choice between swimming at the beach and hiking and mountainbiking in the hills. It is right in the middle of the Italian Riviera, very convenient for visiting all the area from Genoa, Portofino and San Fruttuoso to the 5 Terre. Futhermore Sestri Levante is, only one hour and half by train, far from Pisa! THE TRAIN STATION IS WITHIN 15 MINUTES WALK, OR 5 MINUTES WITH THE BICYCLES, I OFFER FREE OF CHARGE, FAR FROM MY PLACE.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE FOLLOWING SIMPLE REQUEST!
Since I don’t like my guests wandering around looking for the flat, I would like to know from which place you are coming from on the day and, above all, the time of your arrival so I can organize your picking up either at Sestri Levante rail station (you can check the train times on the "trenitalia" the offficial Italian railway website. It has an English version as well) or Sestri Levante motorway exit. The best time for me to do that is after 3 p.m. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
HOW CAN YOU GET TO THE 5 TERRE FROM THE FLAT?
Sestri Levante is about 40 km before the farthest 5 Terre town (Riomaggiore) There are 3 ways to travel to and from the 5 Terre.
THE FIRST one is by train. It takes from Sestri Levante to Riomaggiore about 30 minutes max. It costs about 8 Euros going and back. I consider this one, by far, the best way because is cheap and very handy. There are a lot of trains from Sestri Levante from 7 a.m to 24 p.m . I suggest my hosts to go to the farthest town Riomaggiore and then visit the other four towns by footpaths or, if you do not feel like walking ,by trains with the same return ticket because they last 6 hours each way.
THE SECOND one is by ferry. Late spring and summer, a couple of days a week about 2 p.m. a boat seals from Sestri Levante for the 5 Terre and cames back about 18 p.m. This is a very beautiful way to travel to the 5 Terre. The only snag is that you got to respect the boat timetable. You can do a mix of the previous two. For instance you can go by boat and came back by train or viceversa.
THE LAST one is by car, but I really do not suggest it.
All the listed rooms are at your disposal if you like...
The road from the flat (Via Nazionale) to the train station, the town center and the sea is the busiest, most trafficked and the largest road on town. So you can easily walk, cycle, or even a bus to the places I have written above.
I would like to make clear that although I am very busy with my job ( surveyor) all day and very often I am away, I LIVE IN THIS FLAT and I LIVE IN THIS FLAT.
All the listed rooms are at your disposal if you like.
On booking please COMPLY as much as possible with my requests expressed on the 4th paragraph of my profile. At very least specify if you reach Sestri Levante by car or by train. Set itinerary a week before your arrival. You know is far better have someone waiting for you with a car than go around the town looking for my address toting a heavy luggage. Also this courtesy is free.
Smoking is allowed on the terrazzos.
From the minite we arrived at Samdro's place we felt at home immediatly. He and his girlfriend are the best hosts. Sandro gave us a tour around town and showed us the best places to eat and visit. With the two bikes we could use for free, it was easy to get around quick and easy. The appartment was very clean and welcoming. We had everything we needed. We enjoyed the chats with Sandro and the lovely breakfast in the morning.
Our stay with Sandro has been one of our favourites so far using air BnB . Being two being two young Australian females we felt safe the minute we entered his home. He was so welcoming even though he had to wait 2 hours in the heat at the train station for us as I got our arrival time wrong. He then took us on a lovely bike tour through sestri levante pointing out his favourite places to eat, swim and relax. He even took the time to hunt down restaurants that cater to my friends gluten allegories.
The location is great. Only a 15 minute walk (maximum) to the beaches and main part of the town. Even closer if you rode the bikes Sandro provides. The Supermarket is also only 10 minute walk down the road. If you're wanting to get the ferry or train to cinque Terre regions this is ideal for you. Again, only 15 min walk to the ferry and trains to those sites.
The breakfast that Sandro and his girlfriend provided every morning was delicious. They even had gluten free products for my friend which made a perfect start to our days. The house was always immaculate and clean and the bed was the comfiest I've slept in for years.
We really loved our time here and again felt so safe and welcomed. Sandro is very warm and accommodating and we wish we stayed longer.
Sandro is a great host! He picked us from train station and gave us a tour around the city to show us the most important places. He gave us tips about trip to Cinque Terre (train schedule, logistic information, map) and Portofino. He is a very helpfull person who always answered our questions even when he was working. Sandro showed us the best places to eat: best pizza, sea food, foccacia, ice cream :) Before our leaving he even gave us a cooler bag to transport pesto back to Poland. Day after we left Sestri it came out that we left some clothes there so Sandro offered that he will send them back to Poland :)
About the room: very clean, comfy and with a big bed. You will find there everything needed. Whole apartment was very clean and always smelled so nice :) Every morning in the kitchen there was a big and DELICIOUS brekfast waiting for us (cereals, milk, homemade jams, bread and fruit cake, coffe, juice).
The big advantage of Sandro's offer are two bicycles which you can use. With them you can get to the city center and beaches in less than 10-15 minutes by using Sandro's secret shortcut ;)
For now Sandro was the best host we met at Airbnb and he totally deserves his Super Host title! We really recommend staying at Sandro's home and choosing Sestri Levante for a place to spend your vacations.
Get it Straight : My journey at Sandro’s home in Sestri Levante was a perfect one.
Let me first to talk you about Sestri Levante.
The city is ideally situated between Portofino and the Cinqueterre.
If you are planning a long or short stay I suggest you to plan the holiday in SESTRI LEVANTE from where you can go to Cinqueterre at a low cost, for a short and panoramic journey by train, every time you wish.
In SESTRI LEVANTE you will have access to vast and sandy beaches and also to nice and well organized village, where you can move around without cars or scooter. From Sestri it will also be easy reach the most famous places for mundanity and glamour in Liguria sea : Portofino and Santa Margherita.
I recommend you loading the app to get in real time train’s schedules : pronto treno
Second the Flat.
You are at 10 min from the center of the city and the beaches with 2 bikes that Sandro will put at your disposal. You are among real Italians here and I can assure you that they are the very quiet one. All is quiet here.
Situated at the fifth floor, you will enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the mountains. The flat is luminous, very clean, very handy. The bed is large and the mattress of very good quality. its terrasse is very nice to take your breakfast with the panoramic view of the city. What a better idea to start your day !
Third, your host Sandro.
Sandro is a very practical and full of kindness man. The same for his Partner, Dora, who is a adorable. He fetched us from the station and dropped us off as well when we left. He showed us the city the first day we arrived with a bike tour and gave us a quick overview of the best spots of the city as well the famous shortcut to make 75% of the road to the center on the bicycle path. Safe and easy. Sandro can be a very discret host or as I am a talky one, can enjoy some discussions with you. I shamefully not read I cannot cooked his home and as I was with my daughter he has graciously allow me to use his kitchen to fixed something for her when I needed to. Sandro is an Italian who is fond of his land and he will be for you a priceless source of advices of any kind regards your plan to visit the Cinquetterre. Providing you maps, schedules of trains and boats and orienting you to the most interesting cities or spots according your tastes or desires. One more time, I really appreciated the man. Sandro, Leeloo and me, we « grazie mille « you for all you’ve make to us.
Now I have more than a place to stay when I go back to Sestri Levante, I have a very good friend.
Staying with Sandro and Dora was like visiting family. We felt comfortable from the first moment and had a lot of fun during our stay. Sandro showed us around the town (you can trust him when he offers restaurants, all of them were great :) while Dora served amazing breakfasts with homemade bread, lemon jam and cakes. The flat is super clean, there is free parking and the city center/beach is about 6 minutes by bike which is provided by Sandro. The train station is even closer and you can reach 5terre in 30 minutes. It was a great experience, looking forward to go back.
Sandro was a wonderful host. He went out of his way to be helpful. He was waiting for us at the station in his car and once we had dropped our bags at the apartment and been shown around, he took us on a cycle tour of Sestri, which was so helpful. We were actually in town for a wedding and Sandro took us on a personalised tour of the places we were due to attend so that we would know where they were. Such are his local connections we even met the head waiter at the wedding venue the day before!
Having access to the bikes for the duration of our stay was really great. The location of the apartment is very handy and, with the bikes, only a quick cycle to the center of town. Neither of us had really cycled for years, but there are designated cycle paths most of way from the apartment to the center of town, so it was very safe and easy.
The apartment was exactly as described and as shown in the pictures. It was very clean and welcoming, with lots of thoughtful touches to make our stay as comfortable as possible - from cold bottled water in the fridge to free wifi. Sandro even provided a little laminated card with the address details in case we needed to get a taxi at any point. However, Sandro was so kind in taking us where we needed to go, and it was an easy walk home, so we never needed to take a taxi.
We are also very thankful to Sandro's girlfriend Dora, who was so kind and helpful. From insisting on ironing my husband's shirt when we were in a rush to get ready for the wedding, to spoiling us with delicious homemade cake for breakfast. Both Sandro and Dora really went beyond the call of duty to make our stay special.
Sesrti Levante is a lovely town that we would definitely recommend. It is big enough to offer a great choice of restaurants and bars but small enough to find your way around easily. The beaches are lovely, and if you are lucky Sandro may just show you the best spot!
Stayed at Sandro for 5 nights. Everything at his home was super clean and tidy and we had everything we needed. Sandro has been hosting people for a few years so he knows what he does. He organised us a bike tour the night we arrived and was always ready to give suggestions and help us plan. It was a hotel like experience and Sandro is what a superhost should be!
