Location – neighborhood description
CHINESE FISHING NETS - These fixed, cantilevered fishing nets, at the entrance of the harbour and along the backwaters, were introduced by traders from the court of Kublai Khan. Records show that they were first erected between AD 1350 and 1450. The best place to watch these nets is from Vasco da Gama square, a narrow promenade that lies parallel to the beach.
DUTCH CEMETERY - Consecrated in 1724, here’s an authentic reminder of the many men and women from Europe who came down all the way to play out their roles in the colonial 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Open only to group visitors.
FORT COCHIN BEACH - An ideal place for an evening stroll and to watch a spectacular sunset. Bathing and swimming are not recommended here. The colourful carnival at New Year’s Eve is a feature of this beach. Other pastimes include sampling gourmet seafood, shopping for shawls, carpets, handicrafts, and exotic trinkets; or watching a Kathakali performance, the traditional and brilliantly colourful dance form of Kerala.
INDO-PORTUGUESE MUSEUM - Located within the compound of the beautiful 1506 Bishop’s House, the museum established in a seperate building showcases artefacts like statues and coins left back by the Portuguese.
PARADE GROUND - Covering more than four acres, this large open ground was used by the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the British for conducting military drills and parades during the colonial years. The defence establishments of these powers were housed in some of the elegant buildings surrounding the ground. Located adjacent to St Francis’ church, the ground today serves largely as a recreation and sporting turf.
SANTA CRUZ BASILICA - Originally built by the Portuguese, this church was elevated to a Cathedral by Pope Paul IV in 1558. The church was totally demolished by the British who took over Cochin in 1795. Later Bishop Dom Gomez Ferreira commissioned a new building in 1887. Santa Cruz was finally proclaimed a Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1984. The basilica, situated close to the St. Francis Church, has some beautiful paintings. Open 5.30 AM to 12 Noon, 3 PM to 7.30 PM. Sunday 5.30 AM to 12 Noon, 4.30 PM to 7.30 (website hidden): (phone number hidden).

Nice rooms in a lovely local area of Fort Kochi! Perfect way to experience great food like the locals would, out of the main drag... Close enough to the action but far enough to get an authentic experience! Firoz was a fantastic host, helpful with advice of where to go, transport etc. Room was cute and comfortable. Overall a great stay, thanks & recommended!!!
Overall a nice experience --- we stayed in the woodhouse. the room is clean and spacious, and firoz has been honest at the pricing of different additional services (eg the backwater tour, pick up services), the advice about different things of Cochin and transport information given by him was useful and accurate too. The hot water didn't work and we were not sure why, but we decided not to ask firoz for help and used cold water anyway since the weather in Cochin was very hot! the location is not too near the attraction but taking a tut tut is not too expensive. I think the tut tut drivers in Cochin are overall more honest than the drivers in top tourist places in india like rajesthan, delhi etc. Air conditioning worked perfectly.
Die Unterkunft entspricht der Beschreibung. Ein sauberes, einfaches Zimmer mit integriertem Badezimmer. (Dusche und europäisches WC)
Funktionierende AC. (Wichtig)
This is a great value home stay in an authentic, non-pretentious but safe residential neighborhood, near to all the tourist highlights but so lively and interesting that I didn't want to leave the neighborhood for the tourist areas. Firoz was very busy and showed me things in rush. The next morning he was able to spend more time and shared his perspective on many social issues, which I very much appreciated. The South Indian breakfast was simple but delicious. I also appreciated that he arranged for my train ticket and gave me some good tips on where to find things in the neighborhood. I just wish he had been able to be more relaxed, but perhaps I caught him at a bad time. Thr room was simple but spacious and clean, with a private anteroom where I could practice yoga. Overall, I think Adams Homestay was a bargain and a good experience.
We loved Kochi. it has to be one of our favourite places in India. The local people are so friendly and welcoming. Our best experience there was simply cycling around the less touristy spots and experimenting local cuisine. Firoz kindly lent us two of his bikes so we didn't need to walk everywhere with our 2 young children.. Otherwise it would have ben hard work walking. But the location is good for those travelling without kids. It's only about 10 min walk from Palace Road, which in our opinion is the better part to explore. Fort Kochi is another 20 mins or so but you can get an auto rickshaw for under 50 rupees so not an issue. It's better actually being a bit out of the main touristy spot. You'll meet more of the lovely locals, and everything is cheaper. The 'Hotel' restaurants are great. They're clean and the food is delicious and cheap.
Firoz was really helpful during our stay and even let us stay on in our room much later than the stated check out time.. Much appreciated Firoz, because we had a late flight and it would have been tricky with all the bags (wife loves shopping!).
The room was clean and plenty of space.
We arrived at Adams Homestay exhausted. Firoz made us very welcome and comfortable. Firoz was really efficient and helped us to arrange a trip to Munnar by arranging for us to stay ina homestay and arranged a driver to stay with us for 3days as a guide. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable although quite basic. We would definitely recommend Adams Homestay and Firoz as an excellent host. Ros and Peter

Firoz was extremely helpful and honest during our stay. He organized a car for us from the airport as we arrived very late. He also booked our train for us as well. The room was great, very comfortable and relaxing. Firoz's wife is an amazing cook, the food was delicious. We would highly recommend staying at Adam's Wood for anyone looking for a great experience to Kochi in an out-of-the way area.
