Interaction with Guests
I do live at this house, so I'm usually available if needed.
The guests may enter through the main floor if they choose or around the back way if they don't want to interact.
I'm friendly & so is my cat, so please feel free to visit with us or ask for guidance with your trip. My puppy is a bit shy, but with the right treats she warms up right away.
Comfortable, clean & neat NE Portland neighborhood. Park within walking distance. Near Beaumont-Wilshire shopping area which includes coffee shops and breweries, two things we take very seriously in Portland!! Also includes boutique shops, fresh bagels and yoga. About 2 miles from one of Portland's best farmers markets (Hollywood Farmer's Market, 8am to 1pm Saturdays). Just picked up berries, cherries, asparagus and tomatoes. Delicious!
Close to bus lines on Fremont and Sandy. Can access MAX with one short bus ride. Close to bike routes and shops, brewery within walking distance.
On-street parking, no fees or limits.
Other Things to Note
Portland's unique trash system allows us to operate an entire household on less than 1 cubic gallon of trash per day. (another thing we take seriously here in Portland!). This household reduces, recycles and composts about 90% of all waste.
No smoking in the house, preferably not on the premises. Small dogs, cats, bunnies, etc allowed. The mother-in-law apartment has a separate entrance through the back of the house, come & go as you please.
This was a very simple & easy place to stay for one evening. Renee was easy to communicate with and instructions for entry were straight forward. We didn't get in until late on a Friday night and turned around and left early the next morning, so we never met Renee but she was always pleasant in booking and communication. The room is in her basement and you walk through a garage/laundry area to get there. The shower pressure was nice and the bed was OK for two people. My only feedback is that given it's in her basement you can hear noise up above, but that's completely understandable. It felt semi-private.
I enjoyed my stay at Renee's basement studio after some initial concerns on my day of arrival that Renee promptly attended to. The studio was comfortable and clean. The shower works better than mine at home, and I slept very well on the firm mattress! The studio provided all the basics I needed and Renee added a water filter and French press upon my request. The neighborhood is quiet and I had no concerns regarding safety on my early morning walks, when it was still dark.
Pros: Good location, clean, kitchen and bath in good condition. Easy communication with hosts.
Cons: The BED is NOT comfortable. It is an old spring mattress and the springs poke out into your back while you sleep on it. If you have back issues, I would not recommend this listing. Woke up with very sore lower back. I hope the owners will remedy this issue for future guests.
Renee was such a lovely host and we felt relaxed and at ease in her home. The place was perfect for my boyfriend and I. There were lovely personal touches and plenty of great books and games to play on a night in. The bed was comfy and the shower was awesome. A perfect place to stay in Portland!
Stayed here with a friend for two nights and we had a great time! Loved that it had a little kitchen and Renee provided us with everything we needed! It was so nice to have coffee and tea and breakfast items in the morning. The toiletries in the bathroom saved me when I ran out of toothpaste! Thanks Renee!
Recently returned from a 6 year jaunt that took me through Virginia & New Mexico. It's hard to adjust to the rain but happy to be back among friends & family!
