If you are a nature lover who is also interested in a cultural experience, this is for you!
We offer our cabina and new studio apartment, both hand-crafted with care and creativity, nestled against the forest above the creek. We hope that you enjoy the tranquility of our tiny neighborhood just outside of town and revel in its rich natural and cultural diversity. Your closest neighbors will include mostly the furred and feathered type. Right from bed, you can be dazzled by the presence of frequent visitors at your window--our resident sloth, long-tailed manakin, squirrel cuckoo, blue-crowned motmot and more! If you forget your alarm clock, don't fret! Our resident rooster will give you a wake-up call at the perfect moment for a birding walk in our back forest.
If you are interested in human interaction, you could also learn about traditional Costa Rican agriculture from our neighbor Rodolfo,or visit with any or all of the members of our bilingual family across the yard. We are passionate about sharing our love for our community and the magic of our natural setting. Beth can provide a special perspective as a Canadian teacher who found her true home here, and Manolo offers the life-long connection as well as guided naturalist tours of the surrounding areas. Nati and Amaro, at 14 and 10, round out the picture as they gracefully dance between worlds.
Both homes are completely furnished with the major appliances, hot water, internet access and the extra bonus of artistic features like hand-painted tiles, hardwood floors, and local artwork.

The Monteverde Hideaway is a rare jewel set in an exquisite location. Our family of four stayed for a week in the cabin. It was quiet and clean and we were welcomed with one of Beth's famous loaves, as well as fresh fruit and coffee. The water is good to drink and it is a 35 minute walk to Santa Elena which is a good jumping off point to anything you might want to do in the area. We also rented the extra room in the basement of the cabin. It was also very clean with large windows that look out into the forest. The photos really don't do it justice. The hosts of this place are amazing. Beth and Manolo were so helpful and kind to us. Our kids loved spending time with their children. Manolo picked us up from Liberia and then arranged to have his cousin drive us to the coast. Beth helped us set up tours. They both took time to go for a walk with us at night and point out the local sloth. The Monteverde Hideaway is so much more than just a place to stay. Our family would return there in a heartbeat.
Our stay with Beth and Manolo was the most amazing place we stayed at on our trip!
Manolo went to pick us up at our drop-off place to take us back to the Forest Hideaway. He is really nice and friendly. He was very patient and answered all the questions we had for him and even helped us book a zip-lining tour for the same day. When we arrived at the Hideaway, there was freshly made banana bread waiting for us in the toaster oven. There was also a bowl of fresh fruit and fresh juice. How lovely!
Manolo built the cabins himself and they are really beautifully made. Clean and so many lovely details. We loved the rocking chairs outside and the hammock. The privacy screen was a nice touch and we were so happy to have our own little kitchen. It really was a pity that we didn't stay longer than the 3 days that we did. Thanks for helping us make our trip stay wonderful!
P.S. We went on a night hike with Manolo (he's a certified guide) and it was really interesting to see what kind of animals come out at night. We also came to a clearing at one point and saw an endless sea of stars. Magical!
We stayed at Beth and Manolo's . They are super friendly, helpful and nice. Widh we had stayed longer. We are looking forward to enjoy their wooden home in the future. We give them five stars! :)

Stayed in Monteverde (the mountain cloud forest) with a sloth living above our roof. Loved the hosts who built the house we stayed in and gave us several guided tourers as a local naturalist. His wife had banana bread ready for us when we arrived an catered to our every need.
Our stay at Beth's Forest Hideaway was a delight on many levels.
We made it up the mountain after a long day of travel from the ocean, and although we had a bit of difficulty finding the place, Beth's husband Manolo, who grew up in the area, graciously met us on his motorbike and led us the rest of the way to their place. We knew immediately that we were stepping into something very special. The beautiful hideaway cabin, built by Manolo, reflects a strong connection with the trees and surroundings. There was a warm loaf of bread waiting for us on the kitchen counter and a pitcher of tamarind juice in the refrigerator. While we had plenty of privacy, Beth and Manolo were completely available to offer information and conversation. They are such warm and interesting people! As someone who tends to feel ambivalence about being a tourist (despite the fact that I absolutely love to travel and connect with new people and places), I appreciate the way Beth and Manolo and their two children generously shared stories about their lives and the place with such love and humor that I felt very much at home. We were fortunate to be able to spend a day exploring the Monteverde Cloud Forest with Manolo, who is a highly competent and delightfully playful guide. I only wish we could have stayed longer.
We stayed at Beth and Manolo's wonderfully comfortable apartment for one week in mid-February. A nice area that is a short walk away from the charming little town of Santa Elena. Beth is more than welcoming - she went above and beyond what we could expect to ensure our stay was enjoyed to the maximum. All very friendly, Beth and family provided us with information and help with whatever we needed and gave us our space and privacy to explore and relax. As mentioned, the apartment (built by Manolo) is top notch comfort with all the amenities one needs and the covered patio makes it all appear tree-house like. We can't say enough positive things about our stay, their hospitality and kindness. Highly recommended.
Beth and Manolo were wonderful hosts! My girlfriend and I are very grateful for their amazing hospitality. Beth had fresh banana bread, fruits, and lemonade for us upon arrival, and both her and her husband Manolo guided us through scheduling things to do and picking places to eat. They even invited us out dancing, which was perfect as it was my girlfriend's birthday. Manolo offers very reasonably priced nature tours and is very knowledgeable about the history of the area, plants, animals, etc., and is passionate about sharing that knowledge.
We stayed in their beautiful studio apartment. The balcony was very relaxing to read on. The location is great, close to town (a couple minutes by car) but just far enough away (hence hideaway) to have a very calm vibe.
Beth was very helpful in the time leading up to our stay with giving advice on the best ways to reach Monteverde and was always quick to respond to our questions.
We have nothing but positive memories, and will stay here next time we visit Monteverde!
Fantastic, cozy guest house with friendly, knowledgable hosts just outside of town. Beth and Manolo were excellent hosts! We would highly recommend this.
Our stay with Beth and Manolo was absolutely incredible. Beth had fresh homemade banana bread baking in the oven as well as Passion fruit juice waiting for us when we arrived. The treehouse was spectacular. We got to see a handful of rainbows from our treehouse. Manolo even took us on a tour in the cloud forest where we got to see a sloth along the way! Beth and Manolo were extremely welcoming and we had the best time staying at their hideaway.
I am so glad that I read all the past reviews written about The Hideaway and went based on them. I can only add to the list of satisfied customers. We are a family of four visiting Costa Rica for the first time. We had rented the Hideaway for three nights 12-15 Jan 2014. Our directions were spot on and we found the place without a hitch. Beth and Manolo were there to greet us with the famous Mango Bread freshly baked. Manolo took us into town to give us a quick overall of the lay out and places to eat. The Hideaway is a perfect retreat to stay in, so close to everything. Manolo helped us with a minor car problem which was wonderful as we had no tools to work with. We also hired him to guide us through the forest and point out birds and animals. He is very knowledgeable and speaks perfect English. He is someone who obviously enjoys his job as a naturalist and continues to educate himself on the forest and it's critters.
Beth is warm and kind and a perfect host. The houses are clean and cosy and only a few yards from the hosts house so they are on hand if ever there's a problem. We met the two children of the family, again very polite and charming.
The town of Santa Elana is about two miles from the Hideaway and although you can walk it's pretty rough underfoot. Santa Elana is a great small town with everything you need. The people are friendly and everyone knows the Quinn/Solis family so you feel very comfortable being there. Supermarket is adequate for what you need. Restaurants are plentiful and delicious.
Monteverde is a little further, maybe 5 miles away where there is the famous zip lining and canopy tours and hanging bridges.
The Arenal Volcano is about a four hour drive away, so for us it was not doable in the time we had. It's only about 60-70 miles but the road to it is very poor.
Once again I cannot say enough positive remarks about our stay, we all thoroughly enjoyed it and I cannot imagine Beth and Manolo will ever be short of people wanting to rent their properties.
Thank you so much for a great stay.
