Beth's home is exactly as described - very comfortable and clean. Close to the town and beaches, great location. Wonderful screened lanai to listen to birds in the morning, and the deck with a mountain view, gas grill and picnic table was great! Kitchen has new appliances and great quality pots and pans for cooking. She even provides Tupperware for food storage, which really is nice. Also boogie boards and snorkel gear so you don't have to rent them! Even a nightlight in the bathroom - she's thought of everything! Highly recommend this property - Beth is on site, but gives you all the privacy you could want!
The listing was accurate. Loved the location and the spaciousness of the home. We felt comfortable and relaxed.
Enjoyed the freedom to come and go as our schedule permitted. We came as a party of four as friends and family and liked the privacy of each having their own room. The kitchen is well equipped and allowed us to have meals and snacks as we wanted. Beth was very pleasant and we only saw her when communication was needed. She was thoughtful about our privacy and allowed us to thoroughly our time at her lovely home accommodations. She asks that a load of laundry be started before you leave and I certainly understand the help that is. We did not have to pay for maid service and other amenities as you would in a hotel. The price is definitely right. We all highly recommend this as a way to enjoy the islands and feel comfortable in your surroundings. Thank you Beth and we will try to spread the word to others about this great house and way to spend time in Hawaii.
I do not recommend staying with Beth. Her demeanor towards us put a damper on part of our trip.
The primary reason for our unpleasant experience is that Beth accused us of breaking one of the house rules (i.e. no extra guests) and lying to her about it. One of our three REGISTERED guests spent the night at the Sheraton (where we had attended a wedding) and in the morning took a cab back to Beth's where the guest ran inside to retrieve money to pay the driver. Beth then accused us of breaking the rules by hosting an additional, unregistered guest and attempted to procure an additional guest fee from us. Of course, the "extra guest" was simply the third REGISTERED guest being dropped off. I had to insist that she come to speak with us in person (where she greeted me with "I don't like being lied to") instead of simply texting us with curt replies such as "Please leave by 10am" and she wasn't convinced that we hadn't broken any rules until I repeatedly invited her to inspect the extra beds (which, of course, had not been slept in). Beth then explained that she had been burned recently by "young people" and her gardener, which she seemed to suggest had colored her disposition towards us. My friends and I are all old enough to vote, drink, drive, rent a car, serve jury duty, open our own bank accounts, serve in our armed forces, read, write, etc. None of us are her gardener. Also, it shouldn't matter at all what age we are or appear to be or what someone else did to her in the past. Having paid the quoted fee in full, we should have been treated the with deference and respect that seemingly older guests would have been treated.
The secondary reason for our negative feedback is Beth's general demeanor to us. We felt, prior to the incident cited above, that she seemed to be "trying to catch us doing something" (for lack of a better phrase). Admittedly, perhaps this feeling was exacerbated (or confirmed) by the above-mentioned incident, but it is indeed how we felt during our stay.
In the spirit of complete candor, I did break one rule: I left a light on for an extended period of time. This is 100% my fault as I was unfamiliar with the light switches and failed to turn off an exterior light. Aside from this, I think we were perfectly fine guests - especially since we were practically only on-premises to sleep and occasionally eat. If Beth has other complaints about us, I would not be surprised given her suspicious and accusatory attitude towards "young people."
In fairness, Beth's listing was completely accurate as described: clean, comfortable and conveniently located. And, had we appeared to be old enough to be trusted, I'm sure Beth would have been more than sweet and accommodating. These are the reasons I will not be giving her one star.
I do not recommend Brian to stay at anyone's home. I found him very rude, prejudice, and very unfriendly. As you can read by his first review towards me he is the same way in person. Emotionally unstable. I felt very uncomfortable having him at my house after meeting him. I have had one hundred percent five star positive reviews on Airbnb.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Beth's home in Kona. It was spacious, well-equipped, and nicely furnished. The location was also excellent.
Beth was very welcoming and friendly. She made herself available but was not at all bothersome. The home was beautifully decorated and comfortable. We had everything we needed. We enjoyed waking to the sound of the ocean (several blocks away ) and the birds calling. Beth's property was well kept, the house very clean and the neighborhood quiet.
This was a wonderful space, exactly as advertised. Plenty of room for the four of us, you can easily fit six or even seven here. The amenities were great, anyone who's been on a beach trip knows how helpful it is to have beach chairs available. A wonderful experience overall.
