About this listing

This apartment is located in the grounds of the most prominent mansion of Lagamas village, offering unique views on 19th century architecture and landscape. It is very quiet.

The space

This full of character and very bright flat offers a dining kitchen, one sitting room/large bedroom for up to four guests and a shower room.

The double bed (160x200) features a high quality mattress, ideal for a couple. One or two extra single beds can be added, preferably for a family with children. Linen (bed sheets, towels) is included.

Whilst being in the centre of the village, the flat is very quiet*: the windows open on a private walled garden protected from any traffic noise, offering total privacy and unspoilt views.

Featuring some charming details, with traditional tiling, wooden floor in the main room and stone floor in the kitchen, this first floor flat offers the perfect retreat or stop-over to explore the Languedoc region.

I have come here every year since I was born, and have never felt bored! This is truly an inspiring region.

Guest access

You will have access to the flat itself, with its own independent entry and a laundry room.
No amenities or areas to be shared with others.

Interaction with guests

As I am based abroad (unless I reside in the house next door for short periods), most of the interaction takes place via email and phone. It is possible to put you in touch with local contacts (wine makers, guides etc) if you wish so.

Other things to note

If you wish to have access to the garden (shared with the main house 'Le Château'), we invite you to look at our adjacent apartment on offer on airbnb under the description 'Tasteful ground floor apartment with garden access'. The 4-guest capacity is the same.

Your booking fee helps us organise non-for-profit artist residencies at Lagamas in collaboration with The Cornelius Foundation... Thank you!

We are incurring incremental difficulties with the internet line. The reason is simple but alas beyond our control: data traffic jam. The telephone equipment installed in the region is unable to cope properly with high speed data transmission and the exponential use of internet. Increasing our subscribed eligible data capacity does not change it: the size of one's engine won't make the car drive faster in a traffic jam...
Our sincere apologies.

Some guests who sleep with the windows open have commented that the village church's bells are an unexpected feature. Not so much for all local villages around though who cherish that tradition... but one can understand that it may surprise urban ears.

An air conditioning machine is provided for the summer - though let's not forget how locals regulate the heat: curtains closed during the day, windows opened for a few hours after sunset.

The sleeping room has thick curtains. However, it won't provide a pitch dark environment.

A well run great spot for some rest, we were driving from Spain to UK, and the accommodation was a perfect stopping off point, not too far from the A75.

Mariannes apartment was as charming as described and we had a great stay in Lagamas. The communication with Marianne was perfect and she responded quickly every time we contacted her. The village is tiny and if you are looking for a calm and quiet place, this apartment is the best choice. It can become very hot in the area and even though we kept the windows and curtains shut, it became very very warm in the apartment. A fan is provided, however not enough when the temperatures climb up to nearly 40 degrees. Not a huge problem, yet something to consider. Overall we really enjoyed our stay in Lagamas and can recommend going there.

This apartment is so lovely! We really enjoyed staying here. L'Herault is extremely beautiful to visit and Lagamas was a really great landing pad. Marianne was very easy to work with and despite her not being onsite, everything was very well explained - I would definitely recommend!

Three friends of mine and I made a last minute booking to spend a short weekend in the beautiful region of Herault. We were lucky to find something charming available and get a quick reply from Marianne who was very communicative, reachable and helpful all the time. We didn't meet in person because she lives abroad but she has everything very well organized for a self check-in. We arrived in the little village late in the evening when everything was dark but even though it was easy and also entertaining to find the house, park our car and get in the apartment thanks to all the good and precise instructions with pictures, signals and passwords that Marianne provided by email. A funny game all in all! :) The apartment was basically a master bedroom with a king sized double bed very comfortable, a little kitchen and a bathroom, all rustic with wooden floors, traditional tiles, very simple and tastefully decorated with old furniture and nice arty objects. One important thing to mention is that there is no living room so the 2 single beds we asked for were put in the same bedroom which we didn't expect but as we are very close friends we didn't mind to sleep together. Marianne already warn us that the foldable single beds were not going to be very comfortable for 2 big guys like us but we already accepted this condition for a couple of days. As a matter of fact this apartment is specially great for a couple or a young family with one or two kids, otherwise it can be a bit uncomfortable to live in. As we stayed there in winter the 2 electrical heaters were useful before going to bed. The only upsetting thing was the internet connection. It says it's wifi but we couldn't get connected, not even once during our stay, no router name was available. Marianne says that there are problems in the area but anyway it should be fixed somehow because some people like me and one of my friends must be connected for a while for some remote work and that was impossible. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful place, we enjoyed our stay very much following several of the top recommendations from Marianne, like visiting the Gignac market on Sat and Saint Guillame du Desert, a really picturesque and fascinating medieval village..... Thanks Marianne for all your kindness!

Response from Marianne:
Thank you very much David for your kind words. I am very pleased you enjoyed your time! The internet matter is a real issue, and myself working remotely most of the time, I know how frustrating it can be especially when I am abroad with expensive mobile data service. Regarding the resolution of the internet connection, there is nothing to be done regarding the old copper network alas. The network operator won't upgrade it with a better 'relai' box and won't consider cabling either because the village is too small. The 4G Wifi connection has been investigated too, but the reception is not good. The only hope is that the copper network gets less traffic as the bigger villages and towns around progressively get cabled. So we are left with a particularly intermittent and patchy service. Notice of the issue is well made on airbnb and separate communications. Maybe the mention of internet access should be removed to avoid any frustration.

My Name is Marianne and I am a curator and art advisor.

I travel a good deal both in Europe, America and Asia and enjoy meeting new people and discovering new places.

I sometimes use airbnb when travelling and have had such positive experiences that I like to rent my Paris and South of France 'pied à terre' when I am away.
