Garden cottage in beautiful quiet garden setting; easy access to Railae beach, Ao Nang beach and nearby islands. Hexagonal-shaped 2 bedroom house with new polished cement bathroom and kitchen area that opens onto a covered outdoor dining area.
A lovely garden cottage set in a beautiful, quiet location at the foothills of the limestone karsts surrounding the Railae peninsula. The main sleeping area is a timber hexagon and has one king bed and a single day bed. The second bedroom has a double bed. The house is surrounded by a wooden deck that has hammocks. At the back of the house is a new polished cement kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen opens onto a covered outdoor area for dining.
The house is surrounded by a tropical garden.
Interaction with Guests
I live in Hong Kong and stay in this house in Krabi as often as I can, but basically you have it all to yourself. I have lived in this community for 18 years and there are some lovely local families who live nearby. The caretaker lives next door. I can help arrange an airport pickup if you need it.
The house is located on a quiet road approximately 1.5 kms from Ao Nang village and 4 kms from Ao Nang beach. Easy access to local fresh food markets, Railae beach and transport to Krabi town. Great area for running, cycling, climbing and diving.
There are lots of transport options in Ao Nang. Generally transport is cheap. The house is just over a kilometer from the main road so easiest option is to rent a bike/motorbike/car.
Other transport options:
- local 'songtaew' buses to Krabi town every half an hour from the beachfront
- 'tuk-tuks' for around Ao Nang (cheap)
- longtail boats to Railae and islands
- daily boats to Lanta and Pee Pee islands
- private car with a driver - (Krabi airport to house 600 baht; Phuket airport to the house 2500 baht)
- lots of local motorbike or car hire businesses in Ao Nang; main car hire companies all have an office in Krabi airport.
Other Things to Note
Near to the house is a muay Thai training camp (0.5 kms), fresh food market (0.5 kms), restaurants and shops (1.5 kms), beautiful beach and boats to nearby islands (4 kms).
Please smoke outside and make sure all butts go in the rubbish.
Please take all food with you when you leave.
The house has a lot of timber so please use candles carefully or not at all.
The wifi is shared with the neighbours so please use responsibly and sparingly.
The garden cottage is set in what appears to be about a 2 acre compound with host house across (which you can see from the verandah past your little garden) which made us feel safe & next to another little cottage under construction with backdrop of a beautiful limestone mountain. This is a cosy rural cottage with modern rustic kitchen & verandah. Noo (host & husband) is attentive & checked in on us once a while when he happens to spot us but gave us plenty of space & privacy for us to relax. Natalie who was away on business communicates & organised everything online.
Room is very cool at night (we were using the thicker blanket provided). Adequate fans in every living space. It was convenient to have a washing machine, fridge & kitchen utensils (especially for those staying more than 3 nights). Having mosquito coils to place around the house & verandah is also a great way to keep mosquitos at bay in the evenings (this is a fact of life living in rural areas of South East Asia).
GETTING AROUND - You will need to hire a vehicle or a scooter (200 Baht a day - easily arranged through Noo) to get about. The road to the main Ao Nang area & beach from the house is not a busy road (10minutes). You will pass a beer garden/restaurant & many homes & chalets along the way. Night market & petrol station is only 5 minutes away. There are many Thai/seafood restaurants, 7-Elevens & mini marts before the main Ao Nang beach strip & tour operators on the main strip.
During the dates we were there (2-6 March 2015) for the first 2 days construction work stopped (which we appreciated). Construction work resumed after but only at about 9.30am (Thai time) which gave us plenty of time to have a leisurely breakfast & go off exploring until late afternoon when construction work had totally stopped. Wifi is not so strong in the house but a little better from the kitchen verandah. Please bring a small LED light as it is always helpful when travelling in South East Asia (in case of a blackout anywhere/anytime).
Overall this place is a GREAT cosy little rustic cottage as a base to explore the beauty of Ao Nang, Krabi. Would definitely recommend it & come again next time. We're also excited about the new accommodation next door! :)
We booked this beautiful wooden house for two nights. While we enjoyed our stay in this green setting, there were a few aspects that I would have liked to have known about before booking.
-The house is in a nice location and is about a 25 minute walk to the busy Ao Nang area. The airbnb listing portrays the house as in a lush garden setting. While it is certainly true that the house has gorgeous forest and limestone cliffs in the background, the immediate surroundings are different. The location of the house is a leveled area with some developed houses and a construction project. Natalie's house has a small but pretty garden area, but a construction project is underway directly across from her balcony - about five meters away. It's very visible and loud, making the house not as quiet and private as we imagined. There were people walking around most of the day right outside the windows.
-The modem for the wifi is kept in the house across the way from Natalie's place. To use the Internet we needed to stand in the front of the neighbor's house. There was no reception indoors.
-The shower is cold-only, we could never get it to be warm. Also, the kitchen faucet is very weak, just basically a trickle. We loved being able cook while we stayed here - in fact access to a kitchen was a highlight! - but we had to wash the dishes in the bathroom sink and shower since the kitchen wasn't strong enough.
-The house has much more of an indoor/outdoor feel than I imagined. I am definitely someone who
loves nature, camping and being outside; however I didn't expect this place to be as open as it is. Sometimes this presented potential
safety concerns (we couldn't get the many windows to shut when we left for the day with our belongings inside) and it let in a lot of wildlife (a bat flew in on our first night, a cat wandered in on the second night, and lots of mosquitoes came in as well).
We stayed 1 month here. It is a perfect place to feel far from the tourist flow and close to the local life as you are living between Thai neighbors who are really nice, attentive and helpful with you.
The house is very cozy and ecological. We were pleased by Nathalie's decoration inside ans outside the house. Right from the beginning you feel yourself at home. The kitchen is small but very complete to cook some healthy local food. The materials used around you are almost natural or very close to it. The garden is luxuriant and make you feel alone in the jungle.
The nature is everywhere around the house, so you can hear gibbons in the morning for example. You can practice jogging and walking and thai boxing starting from the house.
Food markets are great to fill your fridge and some small restaurants are perfect to feed you when you don t want to be in the kitchen.
If you need to be surrounded by the touristic shops and the beach atmosphere it is really close to you, about 3 km.
The house area is also reach with touristic attractions such as waterfalls, temples, caves, islands, naturals parcs and more; all of that is reachable with your motorbike (which is cheap to rent).
Special thanks to Mr Noo and his family for their kind attention. Say hello to local cats and little children from us. Big big thanks to Nathalie to make it possible to spend such a nice month in the south of Thailand. We hope to be back then passing by.

Hi, everyone! That was a really nice stay at Natalie's bungalow !
We will miss our cats and children from the neighborhood . Noo was very attentive and helpfull.
Great place. Nice setting. Comfortable. Spacious. We enjoyed it.
Just go knowing that it's a bit on the wild side. It's a 10 minute walk from the main road, and you will be next to forest and see some things around like ants. But that comes with the territory - it's a lovely place and the terrace is great too.
We stayed 3 nights in Natalie's jungle bungalow! Very rustic and earthy Thailand feel! We would happily stay here again!
Super friendly welcome from Nu who runs the bungalow.
Keep in mind there are insects and night sounds as you are out of town and it is surrounded by lush jungle garden. We were stoked that there was the large mozzie net over the bed as we slept.
The bed was pretty hard and the shower not strong pressure- but the simplicity and feel of the bungalow is really gorgeous and made our travel feel authentic.
A scooter is needed if staying here- it is too far to walk to the beach, especially in the heat!
Such a quiet and charming place! A fun stay in this gorgeous bungalow!
Originally from northern NSW in Australia, I currently work as an international school teacher in Hong Kong and like to spend as much time as I can in this beautiful little house in Krabi. If you haven't been to Krabi before, it is really something special.
