I’m renting my entire apartment in the great central location of Portobello. Recently renovated, my place has a nice modern feel to it and is within walking distance of Dublin city centre – St. Stephens Green is just 10 minutes away.

The Space

The apartment is nice and spacious with good light and comfortably sleeps 4 people in 2 double beds. There’s also two good sized bathrooms (1 ensuite) so no queueing in the morning!
There’s a separate living and kitchen area that’s been recently renovated and includes 4 ring electric cooker & oven, fridge, microwave, washer/dryer, lots of storage space and all the kitchen equipment you’d need to cook and have a quiet night in if you don’t feel like availing of any of the restaurants in the area. Help yourself to anything in the cupboards, I live here when it’s unoccupied so the basics are all here.

Guest Access

Guests have full use of the apartment – TV, Wifi, DVD player, iron, hairdryer etc. Parking can be arranged if required but I’ll need a little bit of notice so please contact me for more details.

Interaction with Guests

I’ll be there for a meet and greet on arrival and can answer any questions you have about the apartment and the area. I’m at the end of the phone for any troubleshooting and work locally most days so never too far away if needed - otherwise make yourself at home!

The Neighborhood

Portobello itself is one of the most vibrant, up and coming areas in Dublin with loads of amenities right on the doorstep. Restaurant-wise, there’s everything from cheap and cheerful to michelin star places a 5 minute walk away. There’s lots of great pubs, coffee shops, tea houses, delis and shops all within a few minutes as well, and also not forgetting the location right on the Grand Canal, a famous Dublin landmark.

Getting around

Access to public transport is a 2 minute walk – buses and the green line LUAS tram are right around the corner (Charlemont stop) and there’s also a Dublin Bike stand 20 metres from the front door. For taxis, just walk out to the main road and you’ll never be waiting longer than a minute or two to hail one; alternatively I’d recommend downloading the Hailo taxi app for taxis to the front door.
There’s also access to the Aircoach for transport to and from the airport on Leeson St Upr (near canal) which is about a 10 minute walk or 2 minutes in a taxi. Taxis to the airport if you book in advance shouldn’t cost you more than 25-30 euro.

Other Things to Note

Basically my apartment is right on the canal at Portobello bridge and this is a good reference point to keep in mind for navigating the transport links. The closet tram stop (see above) is on the canal, as is the Aircoach for airport transport.

There’ll be a detailed information booklet here for when you arrive.

  • Wayne was fantastic. He always answered my emails very quickly and check-in was very smooth. He is very thoughtful and had purchased milk, oj, coffee, bread, fresh flowers and Guinness for our arrival. The apartment was exactly as advertised and quite spacious and quiet for a city location. We loved the neighborhood and it was only a 10-15 minute walk to city centre. Public transportation and taxis were readily available. I would highly recommend Wayne as a host and his apartment for a visit to Dublin.

  • What a fantastic place to stay at while exploring Dublin! As my wife and I were heading towards the apartment from the bridge, we were greeted by Wayne around the corner to assist with our luggage. He was very hospitable and was able to show us around the apartment and get us situated. He was very accommodating and was able to leave a few "refreshments" in the fridge. Got to love the Guinness! ;) The neighborhood was quite lovely. Wayne had suggested going around the corner to the Lennox Cafe for brunch. It was a homerun! Excellent place to eat!! Good Proximity to the Dublin Centre - 15-20 min walk.

  • Our stay at Wayne's place was amazing! He was so hospitable and friendly. He gave great tips on the area and made our stay very comfortable. This was our first time staying at an air bnb place and we were very pleased. We would definitely stay again!

  • The apartment is in a great location, if you don't mind a 10-minute walk to the centre. I really appreciated the comfort and cleanliness of the apartment, and I liked the fact that it was quiet at night, even though there's a pub right next door. I used to stay near Trinity and Temple Bar in the past, and regret it every time a drunken teenager barfed outside my window at 3 in the morning. No such thing in this place. There's a lovely bakery right around the corner, lots of restaurants nearby, and a nice canal walk. Although I didn't get to meet Wayne (because he was away), his friend cleaned the house, stocked the fridge with essentials, and opened the door for us. Wayne checked in by phone to make sure everything is fine. I would definitely stay there again.

  • Our family of four (two kids ages 6 and 3) enjoyed Wayne's flat very much. Wayne met us at the flat and showed us "the ropes". He was easily available by phone to answer a few questions we had. He'd left us some staples and Guinness:) We loved walking into town (easy 15 minute walk) and sitting out front in the public space and along the canal. Portobello is vibrant and "scruffy around the edges" which we prefer to a sanitized experience of a place. There are windows that easily open very wide and the flat is on the second floor, so we had to be very diligent about watching our 3-yr-old. Thanks Wayne.

  • We stayed at Wayne's apartment for 3 nights and it was our first airbnb experience. I think it will be hard to improve on in the future and we are converts to the idea and philosophy. Wayne met us at the apartment and was both welcoming, and thoughtful. The apartment was as described and very clean, the beds were comfortable and the showers were powerful. The area was quiet but had lots of really nice coffee shops and eateries and it did not take long too walk into the centre.

  • Wayne is a very kind person very helpful. Already before our arrival he responded to all queries we had by return. Once we arrived we were very welcomed and Wayne gave us good presentation of his aptment very well equiped and tips for a pleasant stay.
I recommend Wayne as a host and if I come again in Dublin will surely stay again at his place very well placed in Portobello!

  • We spent three nights in Wayne's apartment in early May 2014. We found Wayne to be a kind, generous and humorous host. The apartment is just as it appears on the web page. Great location with plenty to do in the immediate area and easy access to public transport to see all the sights!

  • Just perfect.
Wayne is a great host. The appartment is really nice, clean, quiet and very close to city center. It's exactly as shown on the pictures.
If you like running it's also the place to be.
We enjoyed this too short journey in Dublin.
Thank you again for the delicate attentiveness.

  • Appartement très lumineux, bien situé, à un quart d'heure à pied du centre de Dublin.
Il y a tout le nécessaire dans l'appartement, nous le recommandons.
Merci à Wayne pour son accueil!

About
I'm a 34 year old originally from Monaghan, Ireland and have been either living in Dublin or travelling abroad for about the last 10 years. I'm new to the AirBnB community but I'd like to think that I'm a fairly easy going character and I'd say my hosting style would reflect that. Due to work commitments at the moment, I split my time between Dublin and a house by the sea further up the coast. I work in the restaurant business so I'm always good for a recommendation around the area!
