Stephanie was a fantastic host and the apartment was great, it was just like the photos and it was a perfect location, especially for a tourist to get around by foot! Rouen was a beautiful town and Monet's garden in Giverny was only a short bus ride away!
My bedroom was large, spacious, well presented and welcoming on my arrival. The rest of the apartment was not, and the host was also not at home to greet me at the time I had been asked to arrive. The apartment is situated on a busy road along the Seine, yet my room was very quiet and I slept well during my four night stay. As advertised the apartment is conveniently located for walking to the centre of old section. But it is more like a 10 minute walk to the Gros Horloge, not 2 steps. This said it is well suited on the edge of the old section for exploring Rouen.
My four night booking coincided with a busy time for the owner, and she left very early the next morning. I certainly had not been expecting to be left with the large family dog, and her daughter. The owner did spend the evening , after my arrival, cleaning the kitchen and bathroom.
The photos present a tidy, spacious living area. My experience was that the main living areas were not very clean, and filled with the usual family clutter. For example the glass top coffee table was thickly covered with dust, the timber floors in the apartment were not clean underfoot, and the smell of dog was very noticeable, but not my room. FYI - The dog is a large, boisterous 3 year old labrador. Fortunately I like dogs and this one was be very well behaved, but it helped that I'd asked the owner before she left the correct command words to use…
Stephanie and her daughter, Amelie, both of whom live in the apartment, are very pleasant and helpful, and Stephanie's English is good, which is always nice for us anglophones. The AirBnB room is wonderfully large, quiet and convenient. I have rarely slept so well as I did there for 5 nights, and the wifi was sufficient and reliable. The bathroom / toilet -- which are shared with the owners -- were good and convenient. The location is very good, within easy walking distance of all of the city's major attractions, restaurants, etc. Too, there was a light breakfast set out for me each morning before the women went off to work. Two potential minuses: You'd better be fond of dogs because there is a large one -- a Lab -- who lives in the kitchen and gets all excited and greets you very personally whenever you enter there. Also, you will not have a really run time if you bring a car. Legal parking on the streets during the evenings is free, but you'll be lucky to find a spot anywhere near the apartment; and during the day after 9 am nearly all street parking is for maximum of 4 hours, and is expensive. But that assumes that you can find a spot. The public parking facilities are all over the place and are expensive, but there are always places to be found there. Happily, there are buses and streetcars everywhere, so you will do fine if you arrive by train or boat.
Stephanie was friendly and flexible about our arrival time, greeting us with a brief tour of our room and the bathroom. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the apartment in a good location. Stephanie recommended an area to eat and we found a great restaurant there. Despite it being advertised as the guests having access to the lounge, dining room and kitchen we felt that we were expected to just use our room - which for us was absolutely fine, as we were keen to explore Rouen anyway. Also, if you are not a fan of dogs it is worth mentioning that Stephanie has a big, excitable dog!
By arrangement, we were met at the apartment by a member of Stéphanie’s family, who was there throughout our visit. The accommodation is very spacious and is furnished attractively. The location could not be better – a quiet spot just 10 minutes walk from the city centre. Sadly, on this visit, we never met Stéphanie.
