About the area:
It is a true urban oasis situated in a 80%residential 20%commercial zone. The streets in the area are mainly one-way which cuts way down on traffic flow.
The area in general is mixed culturally, racially, and socio-economically. We have many artists, in fact the Thompson Twins used to live across the street. We also have many doctors, professionals, professors, and like most cities we have a homeless population that is served by a local soup kitchen and shelter on the edge of downtown. For many urban dwellers this will be a recognizable mix of people, but for those coming from less diverse areas you may prefer to drive around rather than walk. I have lived in this neighborhood for 13 years and know that, while it can be colorful at times, it is also safe.
A friendly dog lives on the premises but has no access to your area.
We are available for questions but we may or may not see or meet you.
Quiet, comfortable and peaceful, Karen's place is lovely!
I would stay here again in a heartbeat. My boyfriend and I felt very welcome in every way. The apartment is beautifully decorated, perfectly located and the hospitality was flawless. Little notes were around to help us through out the stay and a little guidebook of the area was available. The bed was extremely comfortable and the atmosphere was very relaxing.
Note: 1) The doorways and the slanted ceiling are a little low if you are above 6' 2) The tub is not a conventional shower but rather an old style tub with a shower attachment
Beautiful, well-furnished room, on a quaint little street on the West End of Providence, just a stone's throw from downtown. Karen was super nice and accommodating! 'Couldn't have asked for more.
Although, I never got to interact with Karen, my stay at her place was very pleasant. I liked the fact that the place had a private entrance and bathroom - a very rare quality to find in most Airbnbs!
Such a lovely stay in this well appointed and very cozy garret. The bed, comforter and pillow sets were very high quality and comfortable. The coffeemaker for a morning brew and wifi work by the window were really nice too. The local recommendations binder was a nice touch too! I'd like to return next time I'm on business in Providence.
I was delighted to stay at Karen's house. She had everything so thoughtfully set up, we felt very comfortable! The location was fantastic; we were only about a 15 minute walk to downtown, which made getting around very easy. Karen has the room decorated so nicely and supplies towels, bathrobes, even coffee (with fresh half and half in the fridge). We absolutely loved staying at this cozy spot and would love to come back some time!
Karen's place was wonderful. I stayed here by myself while back in RI to visit family. The bed was very comfortable, has a nice private bath (claw foot tub with shower attachment - not a standup shower) and lots of nice little touches throughout the space. The place was also very clean and warm (I stayed during some very cold, winter weather and was very comfortable).
Karen was easy to communicate with and even helped to make sure I didn't get a parking ticket, as you cannot park overnight on the street (the things you forget after not living in Providence for a few years). There is one off-street parking spot for guests.
Only negative was that I'm 6'2" and had to do some ducking as ceilings are slanted and doorways are low. Bumped my head about 5 times over the course of the week.
I would definitely stay here again.
A fantastic place to stay, and great hospitality! The room was a great loft with an incredibly comfortably bed, nice large desk, and some comfy chairs. The hosts had left a homemade guidebook to the area, with some of their favorite local restaurants detailed and marked on the map. They were also very helpful - I had flown in for an interview, and they brought an iron right up for me to get my clothes unwrinkled! I would absolutely stay here again.
My partner and I came to Providence to celebrate New Year's Eve and we wanted an affordable and comfortable place to stay. Karen's upstairs room was exactly what we needed and more. The room is cozy and well-decorated. The mini-fridge was a nice consideration. The tea was pretty phenomenal too. The bathroom had a claw-foot tub that allowed us to relax after a night of dancing. Oh, and the room is within walking distance of downtown Providence so we didn't have to worry about driving or parking. Karen herself was a kind host: she was very generous with us when we had trouble with a finicky door lock. We're planning on coming back.
Karen - THANK YOU!! This is such a charming space and in such a convenient location. We were really impressed with the cleanliness of the room and adjoining bathroom. Easy instructions, great hospitality, and a relaxing environment. Worth every penny!
