About this listing

The space

Cosy holiday house in the heart of Salles d'Aude, a quiet typical village in Languedoc Roussillon (south of France). The ideal accommodation for 6 people: a group of friends or a family.

This ancient, cosy stone-house ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) is built over 3 levels. The interior has been fully updated and refitted to a modern standard. Facilities and equipment are new. The house has 3 bedrooms with double beds and new matrasses (2x 1,40m , 1x 1,60m), 2 restrooms, a bathroom, a modern equipped kitchen with a dining-room, a stylish living room in mediterranean colors and a TV. The roof top terrace with its 9 m2 allows sun bathing and reading in privacy. You can also find a little summer kitchen with a fridge and a basin on the third floor.

About the village
You can find a grocery store, a convenient store, a greengrocer, bakeries, a tobacco shop, restaurants, a pizzeria, a medical centre, a dentist, a pharmacy, a hairdresser and a post office. Twice a week there is a small market with local products such as fish, vegetables, fruits and cheese on the main square. Everything is in walking distance.

The countryside
It is known for its vineyards und you can taste wines in each winery. A 9 km road lined through pine trees and vineyards takes you to the large sand beach of St Pierre sur Mer. In the summer you can take the regular bus shuttle (1€) from Salles d’Aude. The ‘big morning market’ on the waterfront of St Pierre offers everything you need. The ‘night market’ offers works of local artists and regional products. Musicians and the lunapark are very appreciated by young people, also the restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Especially the hip ‘bikini bar’ which is located directly on the beach is the place to be to enjoy the sound of the sea, sitting in a hammock or a lounge chair under the palms. Every afternoon on the beach there are beach volleyball tournaments, which you can join of just assist. You can also find a naturist beach.

Sport activities
The country is known for its several sport activities such as cycling, walking, canyoning, hiking and horse-riding. Tennis can be practiced in the village as well as horse-riding. Golf course can be taken 15 km from here. The Mediterranean invites you to practice diving, jet skiing, driving a paddle (rentals on the beach). On the ponds you can try windsurfing or kite-surfing. ATV and karting are also available.

Culture, shopping, excursions
Narbonne, the closest city, is 10 km from Salles d’Aude. You can reach the train station from Narbonne by bus. In this Gallo-Roman city there are many monuments, museums and shops. You can do boatrides on the Canal du Midi.

Don´t miss the festival Charles Trenet or the “ feria” in Beziers at the end of August.

Other possibilities for excursions in the region: Nissan and its Oppidum, Capestang with its cathedral and the Canal du Midi, Coulommiers and its nice harbour with restaurants, Beziers, the famous Carcassonne, Gruissan (little Venice in the Languedoc), Bages and its galleries, Cap d´Agde known for its intensive night life, Perpignan at the spanish border, and the Cathar castles. It’s an hour drive to get to the spanish border.

We really enjoyed meeting Brigitte and she is friendly and welcoming right from the beginning and throughout the whole holiday. Everything was very clear and instructive and very well organised and we give five stars for being a super host. We love the property, its convenient and in a small and very friendly village. Beds are comfortable and clean, we liked the personal items that were available for our holidays such as the stuff you need for the beach, books and cards in the house etc. Perhaps our favourite part of the house is the open deck built into the roof on the third floor which is private, cool in the evening, great location to have dinner with the family, and for a bit of resting / lying out before hitting the beach or other activities during the day. We visited most of the local beaches which are within 10 to 15 KMs so v easy to get to. We visited a vineyard - there are many close by - plus medieval cities in Carcassone and Gruissan plus days on the beach. All in all we are v happy and look forward to returning!

We have rented the Holiday house near the seashore for a family holiday and did not regret it! Brigitte was a great host, she and her family have shown us what french hospitality means. We felt very comfortable in Salles d'Aude and enjoyed the charm of this typical french village. It is not far away from beaches and other towns like Narbonne or Béziers, so there are lots of opportunities to explore the surrounding area. Thank you for a great holiday, Brigitte!
