Me and my friend stayed for one week in the apartment, we arrived late by car from Rome late but Mario and Carla were still up waiting for us, we felt welcome immediately. Mario speaks good English, Carla does not but we managed allright, although marion ahd to leave the rest of the week to work next day.\
The apartment looks cosy and clean, the beds were allright too, the view from the bedroom is nice; Sterpeto, the little village on the hill top covered with olive trees and the sound of a small clock wakes you up in the morning.
The fridge contained the first breakfast and then we found our way to the nice supermarket in Petrignano, filled with special sausages and smoked cheese and so on.. We visited Assisi two times, got involved in the stories of St Franciscus, it's only 7 kms away. And also the big Basilica at Sta. Maria dei Angeli plus the little museum with a beautiful altar by Andrea della Robbia is nearby. We saw as well Perugia (park at P Partizani) and the Galleria Nazionale de Umbria with a lot of Perugino paintings and statues by Agostino de Duccio.
We visited Deruta (Grazia ceramics) & Todi at plm 50 kms. Gubbio is at 30 kms; a wonderful town I visited 2 years ago, -Carla comes from there-, in the Palazzo Ducale is a ceramics museum too, specialized in luster (metallic) ware.
One morning we just walked down the hill between the olive trees to the little stream and we made another walk to Petrignano (2 kms) and the grave yard nearby. Carla brought us fresh eggs and helped us out booking tickets for the Vatican in advance, she is a sweet lady.
I will miss the great Umbrian landscape and slow breakfasts at the terrace overlooking the green valleys a lot. I will sure be back one day with Mario and Carla, maybe arriving at St. egidio Airport, nearby Perugia and rent a car there is a good alternative.
We really enjoyed our stay with Mario and his wife! The apartment was perfect and the view from our terrace was beautiful, overlooking the valley. The location was a lovely hillside setting, his craftsmanship was everywhere. Assisi was very close and he guided us to his favorite restaurant, the food was delicious and their service was excellent. We are definitely coming back! Thank you Mario! Bravo!
. The house is a little bit distant from Assisi so it's necessary a car. But worth it! It's a very nice place, has a really beautiful view and Mario is a kind and nice host. I truly recommend!
What a wonderful stay we had in Mario's private upstairs apartment! It was quiet, comfortable, well equipped and had gorgeous views from the patio. We went into Palazzo, a nearby little town, every night to visit the shops and buy the fresh ingredients for our evening meal. During the day we visited nearby hill towns or watched the olive harvest. Mario even supplied us with fresh olive oil from his harvest! Grazie mille, Mario!
Staying at Mario and Carla's apartment was an exceptional experience for us! It was far more than we expected--large apartment above their house with a private bacony with an amazing view, spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen, spacious bath with bidet. We were there during olive harvest time when everyone was picking their olives to press. With a car, it was an easy commute to nearby Assisi and the caves of St. Francis. The scenery was so soothing and relaxing after the hustle of Rome. We had no problem finding the house and so glad to have stayed there. Mario and his family could not have been nicer. We would definitely return there again if we were in the area.
This is an exceptionally clean, spacious apartment on the 2nd floor. The large patio overlooked beautiful hillside farms and was a restful place to have our meals. Carla left us a bowl of fruit, breakfast fixings and her delicious homemade olive oil to use. It's an easy drive to Assisi and other towns in the area. Don't miss the medieval hill towns of Spello (a old Roman colony) and Gubbio (take the Funivia Colle Eletto to the top of the mountain). Be sure to visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli at the foot of Assisi... it is truly magnificent.
Mario is a responsive host who responded quickly to our queries prior to the trip. He was away on work during our stay but his wife, Carla, and her daughter in law were able to deal with any queries and requests we had. The fridge was well stocked on our arrival and Carla presented us with fresh eggs a couple of days after we arrived.
Having been on the road for two months, we needed a relaxing home base before continuing on with our five month stay in Italy. Mario’s Petrignano apartment was ideal for that purpose and we spent eight days there. Situated in a rural setting [about 1.5km outside Petrignano], the apartment is as the Airbnb photos depict. Mario lives in the adjoining house and his son lives in the apartment below with his family. The apartment is equipped for self catering and the furnishings and bed are comfortable. The apartment was spotlessly clean on our arrival.
The upper level apartment is compact but very comfortable; open plan lounge/dining/kitchen, bathroom [shower, toilet and bidet] and bedroom. There is a patio area which could be shared by the son’s family [below] but in reality it is for your sole use. Gets all day sun with a view out over restful Umbrian countryside. For the cooler part of the year, there are large wall mounted heaters. For the summer all rooms have opening windows to allow a cross breeze.
While the apartment is within walking distance of the town, access to a vehicle would be a definite advantage given that the nearest rail link is at Bastia Umbria [the next town]. However, from there one can make easy day trips to Perugia, Spoleto, and even Rome. With a vehicle, Arezzo, Gubbio, Montefalco, Spoleto and Orvieto are within striking distance for day trips.
Overall, our short stay in Petrignano was most enjoyable and Mario’s apartment provided us with a good base for exploring Umbria. Thank you, Carla [and Mario, in absentia] for making our stay in Umbria so enjoyable.
Very nice, accommodating host! I recommend this place to anyone! The view was beautiful!
This Was perfect for us. We were able to Relax on the terrace balcony with wonderful views of Umbria country side or in The Garden. We easily drove to Assisi within a few kilometers And visited other places in the Area with guidance from Mario's family especially Fedica Who Spoke good English.
Carla , Mario's wife is so lovely and made us very welcome. The flat was very clean and well equipped
We stayed five nights and were sad to leave.
We thought Marios Two little grandsons were delightful.
Highly recommend, Mario And Carla's to anyone traveling with a car. The Shops are close by however The first day breakfast goodies were greatly appreciated.
You can not do better, our stay here was perfect, the flat has it all, including an amazing view from the terrace. Can't recommend more.
