We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Gianni Franzi! The check-in process was smooth. The room was clean, comfortable, and actually even a little larger than we expected. Yes, the shower somewhat small, but this seems common in Italy. There was no A/C in the room, which made for some hot days in August, but we opened up the windows at night and that helped to cool the room down. You won't really spend time in the room during the day anyway. The room did come with a fan, which helped.
The complimentary breakfast was good (not exceptional), but the terrace view every morning is worth it and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They also offered a very nice wine tasting in the evenings on the terrace, which was enjoyable. In addition, there is a common wifi area and another small terrace for use anytime. Yes, the are a lot of stairs, but that's Vernazza! Vernazza is absolutely amazing, we would definitely stay here again. This place will always be special to us as I proposed to my now fiancee on the small "private" terrace in the evening! The setting/view was perfect and there was a lovely couple there who was able to get pictures for us.
We hope to come back soon!
Gianni was easy to find and close to the train station! The staff was friendly and the breakfast was great! We loved the terrace and common area and of course the view at breakfast. I think we will stay here again when we come in October! Absolutely loved it and they even had Air conditioning, which was great on those hot days!
The location was great - just a short distance from the beach and right in the heart of the village. The host when we arrived was great and spoke excellent English which helped us a lot as we don't know any Italian. Check in and out where hassle free. We were warned there were many stairs and they weren't lying- it was exactly 99 to our room! So be prepared to haul some luggage a little ways. Definitely worth it though. The room itself didn't have air conditioning or wifi, which while a bit of an inconvenience didn't bother us much. The room was clean, the bed fairly comfortable, and the bathroom was a good size (we had a private room with bathroom, the other rooms on our floor shared a washroom. If sharing a washroom is a problem for you make sure to book a private room). The patio where breakfast and wine tastings happen is incredible!! The view is unreal and the host for the wine tasting was very knowledgeable. Overall we definitely enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to friends.
Great hotel with an exceptional view within vernazza. The staff was friendly and helpful and they offered to move us into a better room with a terrace after one night without us even asking. Good breakfast on a beautiful terrace. Tough to beat!
This was a very bad experience. this was a hotel which represented itself as a individual online. the room itself could have been reserved for $ 3 or 4/night cheaper from the on line site for the hotel plus the savings from not having the airbnb charge would have made it $20/night cheaper. That was just the beginning of the negative aspects of this hotel. The room was very, very small. In over 60+ years of traveling it would be in the top 3 of the smallest rooms I've stayed in. There was no ac or ceiling fan, just a very ineffective small fan and only one window so no way to get cross ventilation. there were 126 steps to get to the room and no elevator. Online it looked like it was street level. We had our own bathroom, which while very small was preferable to the shared bathroom for rooms that had a view. the breakfast was minimal with no fresh fruit. the only 2 positive comments I can make are: the breakfast patio had a great view and the outside restaurant associated with the hotel was excellent, the service at the restaurant was also very good. Our friends stayed at a very nice hotel with ac, great breakfast and a number of other amenities. It was in Montorose which I thought overall was a preferable town to stay in.
